Background of the issue:
I have a client (Carbstone) with a multilingual website (four languages) where Dutch is the main language. I want to make visual and textual adjustments on a Dutch page and ensure these changes are applied to all translated pages. I am not yet familiar with all the details of WPML.

Symptoms:
Uncertainty about whether visual and textual adjustments on the main language page will overwrite existing translations or if only new additions will be translated.

Questions:
How can I ensure that visual and textual adjustments on a Dutch page are applied to all translated pages?
Will existing translations remain intact, or will they be re-translated and overwritten?
Is it possible to only translate new additions while keeping current translations unchanged?

Hi,

Thank you for contacting the support. Meanwhile this ticket is attended by one of my colleagues, I'll recommend checking our Getting Started guide to make yourself familiar with WPML and how it works.

However, to answer your questions:

- Only new changes are translated (or charged for translation if you're using Automatic Translation). However, if you're translating manually, all the existing stuff with their translations are available in the editor, along with your new changes, which you can translate as needed. Please see our guide on Translation Memory.

- Design changes are also either translated or carried over to the translations, this depends on the theme, page builder or your approach to deal with these things. Generally, these changes are also applied in the translations.

- You can opt to overwrite the existing translations, if you're translating automatically. But generally when you resend your content for translation, only new changes are translated, while existing content remains as-it-is (and is not lost).

I'll recommend trying with one or two pages or post as test for a better understanding how this works. In case you run into any confusion or problem, please feel free to share with us and we'll try our best to help you accordingly.

Regards.
