i need few more details about how Automatic translation works and if its worth to use it on eshop with more than 20k products.
I have mainly Greek language and English .
All of my procucts are imported from .xml to my eshop in my main language GR and then i import them in English and match the . In case of having the Automatic translation i would only need to import only the Greek language and the Automatic translation will automatic replace the Greek language to english so i dont have to import them in english language ?
Thank you for contacting WPML support, I'd be happy to help you with this issue.
Yes, that should be the case. After importing products in the Greek language, WPML will translate products into the English language. You should check some points before importing products to your site:
- Go to WPML > Settings > Translation Mode > Enable Translate Everything Automatically.
- Go to WPML > Settings > Post Types Translation section > Enable "Translate automatically" option.
Thank you for your help. Can you please help me with one irrelevant question, am redesigning my eshop which i will point the A records from my production site to the new one. The old site uses the parameters url language but on the new one i have selected /en instead. Is the new format will hurt my SEO ?
Sorry, I'm not an SEO expert to answer your question fully but I think you should use a redirection plugin or module to redirect other page/post URLs from the old to the new ones to prevent the broken links.
You can find a plugin that is compatible with WPML here https://wpml.org/plugin/

If you see the main issue of this ticket with importing data is resolved, please mark it as Resolved.
After enabling mode "Translate Everything Automatically", you can reload the settings page. Then scroll down to the section Post Types Translation, set the post type preference to "Translatable – only show translated items" and there will be an option "Translate automatically".

For the product that is already translated, you can use the current translation or translate it automatically, depending on your requirements. Go to WPML > Translation Management > Select the product > Send to automatic translation > Select "Overwrite existing translations".

I hope I was helpful. Don't hesitate to ask if you find any problem along the way, I'll gladly help you.
If not, WPML will translate those products automatically.
Is too costly it used 30$ worth of credits for around 200 products which is excessive.
It depends on how many words are on the product page. You can calculate (approximately) the credits used on your site by going to
- WPML > Translation Management > Tools tab > Automatic translation usage reports > Download the current month report > Then you can see the total words that are translated.
- Visit here https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-pricing/#how-automatic-translation-works
add the number of words to see the used credits and pricing for them. Please check this screenshot hidden link
