Background of the issue:
I am trying to crop featured images on my WordPress site using WPML. The issue can be seen on this page: hidden link. I expected the cropping to be shown on translated blog pages, as they do on the original blog page.

I had an earlier ticket that has since been deleted where the last word was that a fix was scheduled for WPML 4.7. I am currently running 4.7.3. I originally reported this issue over 2 years ago.

See:
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/i-am-trying-to-apply-new-image-sizes/
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/split-i-am-trying-to-apply-new-image-sizes/

Symptoms:
While the media is duplicated after translation, the cropping that was applied to the original was not.

Questions:
Why is the cropping not applied to translated media?
How can I ensure that image cropping is consistent across translated pages?

Hello. For what it is worth, I did not manage to reproduce this from the front end of 2020 or 2025. However, you can see the difference in cropping from the thumbnail in the media library in the dashboard regardless of theme.

I can share login information to a staging site. Do you have a secure method that I can use?

Hi,

before your ticket is assigned to one of my colleagues, please allow me to walk you through some initial debugging steps. This will help speed up the support process.

Sure, I activated a secure input field for you.

Best Regards
Marcel

Hi there,

I’d be happy to assist you further with this issue.

Before proceeding with the debugging process, could you please review the solution provided in the following errata and let me know if it resolves the problem?
https://wpml.org/errata/cropped-featured-image-not-displayed-in-translations/

I look forward to your response.

Thank you!

Hi Shekhar,

I can confirm that the full workaround, including the code change is still needed. The issue is easiest to reproduce from the media library, since the thumbnail there is the same regardless of theme.

I understood from my chat with Marcel that this was supposed to be fixed already, when translating media library texts with posts is enabled. It seems that it is not and a manual code change is still needed.

Regards,
Gabriel

Hello,

The errata URL is still active, so the fix has not been included yet. I recommend keeping an eye on the errata page for any updates regarding the fix.

Looking forward to your response.

Thank you.

Is there any ETA on when this can be fixed? It has been years since I reported this issue the first time.

In previous tickets it was stated clearly that the fixed was scheduled for version 4.7. What stopped it from being included?

Does the development team belive that it can be fixed at all?

Hi there,

Apologies, but I don’t have an ETA at the moment. The issue is currently in our developers' queue, and since the fix depends on several factors, it’s difficult to provide a clear timeframe. We’ll update the errata as soon as the fix is included.

Thank you for your understanding.

Can you give any insights into why it was not included in 4.7 as planned before?

Hello,

During testing, the solutions led to different issues, so the work has been postponed for now and is being worked on.

Thank you.
