The permalink setting is "/%category%/%post_id%".
For example, if the Japanese permalink is
hidden link
and you duplicate the English version of the article and change the slug to the same postID as the Japanese one using custom permalinks.
hidden link
Is there any problem with the permalinks being the same in the translated language?
Sometimes Japanese articles don't show up, or there are problems with the language switcher.
thanks!

Hi,

thanks for contacting us.

Translations are different posts, so they cannot have the same ID. Therefore, if you use %post_id% in your permalink settings, you must have different permalinks. A post with ID 1010 can exists only in one language, its translation will necessarily have a different ID.

Why can't we use custom permalinks in the translated language and align them to ID 1010?
Is it a duplicate permalink?

Hi,

I'm Osama from WPML forums support. I'll be glad to help you today.

First of all, sorry for the late reply due to a higher workload. If you use a custom permalink that includes the post ID, it won't work correctly because each post in each language has a unique post ID, so it's considered a duplicated permalink.

If you want to use the same slug in all languages, please try to use a written slug, for example, hidden link and hidden link.

Best regards,
Osama

Please tell me one last thing.
If I use custom permalinks in the original translated article and add a / at the end and then remove the /, the permalink text turns black.
(↓ 1. normal)
hidden link
(↓ 2. / added)
hidden link
(↓ 3. / Delete)
hidden link

In 3 state, duplicate the article in another language and use custom permalinks to align the permalinks to the same as the source of the translation, and there is no problem.
Am I correct in assuming that this would succeed if I use custom permalinks to align permalinks in all languages, since they are recognized as numbers and not post_ids?

Hi,

I'm not sure if that will work, as you explained, but custom permalinks should generally work correctly.

Also, you can try the following steps to copy the original language permalink:
1- Go to WPML-> Settings-> Translated documents options-> Post URL
2- Select "Copy from original language if translation language uses encoded URLs"
3- Click "Save"
4- Go to WPML-> Languages-> Edit Languages
5- Select "Yes" in the "Encode URLs" column in the second language row
6- Create a test page with a custom permalink
7- Translate the page

I hope this helps you. If you need further info, please let me know.

Best regards,
Osama
