This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: If you're experiencing issues with Turkish characters such as 'şçöğü' displaying as '?' after using automatic translation with WPML on your site, the issue might be related to the database character set. Solution: We recommend checking if your database character set is set to UTF-8. You can find instructions on how to retrieve this information here.
If this solution does not apply to your case, or if it seems outdated, please open a new support ticket. We also highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins.
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
But in the title, it does work as expected, right? I double-checked, and the collations are the same.
Can you please try publishing the translation?
If it does not work, I'll need to take another copy of your site to escalate the issue to our second-tier support. Let me know if it's ok with you, please.
I tried adding a dot to the title and tried again, but it did not call back any previous translation from memory. Also, I tried publishing, and nothing changed.
Moreover, I've attached a photo showing that the titles are also wrong.
I sent the details to enter the WordPress admin in a private message on March 12th. The ID and Password are still the same. Can you also please check if we could address the problem together, Otto?
I can't do it all at once, I have an error when trying to run a query to do so:
Error
SQL query: Copy
ALTER TABLE `yaLCn_signups` CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8mb4 COLLATE utf8mb4_unicode_520_ci;
MySQL said: Documentation
#1044 - Access denied for user 'u452833898_z0aRu'@'127.0.0.1' to database 'information_schema'
Can you please check it with your hosting? They may be able to change the collation for you directly. Make sure that it's also done for the columns.
About the other issue, I'll follow up in the other ticket.
There is a non-existing Turkish course that has been listed in English courses. There is no way to delete that course. Did you add it? (I've cleared the cache and cookies. It is still there)
This is a running website, Otto. Can we please make the changes in the staging website and than publish it to the main?
We can't afford such mistakes. How can we delete the course that is not showing in the courses list? The image and link can be found below.
I changed the collation of the other tables and columns manually and had no issues. But as you requested to change them all, and then I need to do it programmatically because there are many tables with many columns (250). When running the SQL query to do so, I am not allowed.
I think it will be more efficient if the hosting support does this on their end.
Let me know if they can do it or if they fix the user privileges.
Otto, they replied with the following message below:
"In this case, you need to download database backup: hidden link
Install PhpMyAdmin or any MYSQL workbench locally, perform an update and upload the ready database back to the hosting plan: hidden link"
Do you think we can solve this matter? I do not understand why it has taken so long and how it affects the SEO of the Website. When would we be able to solve this matter? and do we need special assistance?
What your hosting suggests does not make sense. But the change can be done manually. It's much more work and outside the scope of our support, but if you change your mind, we can help you with that.
