This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
If you're using Cloudinary on your site and notice that images are blank, grey, or not working when translating to different languages, the issue might be related to WPML not copying the

_wp_attached_file

metadata when duplicating the asset.
Solution:
Currently, there is no direct solution as the Cloudinary plugin is not compatible with WPML. We recommend contacting the plugin author to join our Go Global program, where our Compatibility developers will assist in making their product compatible with WPML.

If this solution is outdated or not applicable to your case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket.

Hi.

We use Cloudinary on our site, but when translating to different languages all the images are blank/grey/not working. We have tried different settings for duplicating images/media assets but all give the same result. The only thing we´ve found that is working is to remove the images from the translated posts, and add the same images as new images.

We have tried contacting Cloudinary support, but their response is that "The main issue might be due to WPML not copying the _wp_attached_file metadata when duplicating the asset. We had a report in the past about this, but we need WPML to solve this on their side".

When searching the web for answers, we came across this thread in the WPML support forum which describes the same problem, but no solution.
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/wpml-in-combination-with-the-cloudinary-media-library/

Clearly the problem is related to "_wp_attached_file" metadata when duplicating the asset.

As this thread is from some time ago, have you gotten any closer to a solution?

Best regards
