Hi,

I've noticed my client's site has major loading issues when I'm logged into WordPress. Navigating to any page in the admin dashboard takes 30-90 seconds. Thankfully, if you're logged out, the front-end loads just fine.

I tried deactivating plugins and the slowness goes away when I deactivate WPML. We only noticed the issue this week, so I'm wondering if it's a problem with 4.6.4.

I tried optimizing MySQL queries by following this documentation: https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-optimize-mysql-queries/ It didn't make a difference.

I installed the Debug Bar plugin. I couldn't put all of the queries in Pastebin because they exceeded the 512kb limit, but here's what I could add: https://pastebin.com/K9fq8EKC

I've been playing around in a dev environment: hidden link I'm happy to set up access for you if you need to login.

This is my third time trying to submit this ticket--I keep getting an error saying there's too much data. I think it must be the debug info. (I can't upload it to Pastebin because it exceeds their limit too.)

Thank you!

Hello,

thanks for contacting us.

Can you please follow the next steps:

1) In order to expedite handling your support requests, can you please try again to share WPML support debug information from your site.

More information on the link: https://wpml.org/faq/provide-debug-information-faster-support/

2) Please check if the issue still happens when using the WP default theme (2021) and only WPML plugins are active, all others disabled.

3) If not, enable plugins in smaller groups and try to see if any specificly with WPML, causes issues.

Let me know.

Thanks,
Drazen

Hi Dražen,

I switched to 2021 and deactivated all of the plugins except the WPML ones. The site might have been a little faster, but not by much. It's definitely too slow to be usable.

I still get a 413: Request Entity Too Large error when I try to submit the debugging info through this thread. The best I can do is paste it into a txt file and upload it to Dropbox: hidden link

I've tried another 3 times to submit this ticket and now I just get an "error: are you sure you want to do that" after submitting. I'm going to try to submit some of the debugging info here. All of it is in the Dropbox link, though.

Hello,

thanks for checking.

Please make a full backup of your site (files and database) and confirm it in your next reply.
If possible please provide access to the staging website, not production.

Please note, that I might need to do some debugging procedures like enable/disable plugins, switch themes, change the default language of the user account, and/or access your website database to debug the issue furtherly.

I will share with you any changes or steps done in this process. Please let me know if you do not agree with the above or if I do not have your permission for any.

I would need to access both your site's wp-admin and FTP account, if possible.

I have enabled the private username and password fields in your next reply.

I suggest you create a new user, set it as an administrator and then add those credentials in the private fields mentioned.

You can safely add your information into these fields.

Regards,
Drazen

Hello,

thanks for getting back.

I am able to log in to WP Admin, but still can not use FTP. Can you please check and confirm they work?

Also, if needed, is it okay if we take a copy of the website, for further debugging?

Thanks,
Drazen

Hi,
Yes a copy of the site is fine for further debugging. Can you please try the sftp information without sftp:// please? I don't know why but that keeps getting inserted in front of the host. It should work without that.

I also forgot to mention that the port is :2222 maybe it was not working because you were using :22 as the port

Hello,

thanks I have taken a copy and was able to confirm the issue in localhost.

After trying some procedures, I was not able to fix the issue, so I escalated the ticket to our 2nd tier for further checking.

I will update you soon.

Drazen

Hello,

our 2nd tier checked and escalated the issue further.

Our devs will have a look and we will probably implement permanent fixes in future versions to avoid such issues.

The issue is in \WPML\BackgroundTask\BackgroundTaskLoader::getSerializedTasks it appears to iterate over 6,382 rows

A quick workaround and fix would be to clean and remove any entries in icl_background_task table.

Please make a backup before proceeding.

Please try and let me know how it goes.

Drazen

Hi,

That helped a lot, thank you! Your team is still looking into a permanent fix, correct?

Hi,

Sorry, another question. Do you foresee any issues if we try to add a third language before your team gets the permanent solution in place? I'm not sure if we should hold off on that work or not.

Hello,

yes, we are still working on a permanent fix, it is for now scheduled for WPML 4.6.6.

As for 3rd language, I am not 100%, but I guess it should work fine. If you encounter any new issues, feel free to open a new ticket and our team will be glad to check and help out.

Drazen

Thanks for the update, that's good to know.

Is there an estimate for when WPML 4.6.6 will be released?

Also, if the dashboard starts slowing down again, should we remove all entries from the icl_background_task table?
