This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
WordPress 6.7 has introduced a new issue that impact translations, please update WooCommerce and WPML to the latest versions before you report issues. More about this here - https://wpml.org/errata/php-error-wp-6-7-notice-function-_load_textdomain_just_in_time-was-called/
Background of the issue:
I am trying to delete unattached media files. I just found out the site has 26000 unattached png's. We are creating new courses and lots of quizzes. Link to a page where the issue can be seen: hidden link
Symptoms:
The site connection gets lost when I put 999 records on the page. 250 goes, but that still is 100x delete actions.
Questions:
How do I fix this?
How do I prevent this?
While you wait for my colleague to take over the ticket, let me try to help you with the issue quickly.
I am not sure how is this related to WPML seems like you have issues with deleting images when loading a lot of images and site / server crashes. I would advise checking with hosting support. Also if you wish you can always disable WPML plugins, after backup, and then delete the images that are unattached, and see if same issue still happens.
I understand the deletion itself could be related to the hosting / infra.
But the issue is caused by the fact that my website is full with cluttered useless pngs that all have an WPML tag to it. I did not upload anything.
I looked into the settings of WPML and the duplicate options were set ON. After reading the manual I still dont understand why anyone would want this clutter on his site.
I am sure I dont understand it properly yet. It would be a logical setting, but I end up now with 25 thousand useless pngs on my site, which I can not seem to delete easily.
A simple button: delete all WPML has duplicated within that simple setting would make my day. Just get rid of the stuff I accidentally made WPML to create.
Can you share a few images of what you see exactly?
Since we might not be on the same page here, WPML just adds the same image "duplicate" for 2nd language, it doesn't create thousands of duplicates of the same image. If this is what you are experiencing then it might not be caused by WPML.
For example, if you have image 1 in your EN language, you will also see image 1 in your ES language, and that is it, no more copies of same image or similar.
Are you using any plugin for image compression or similar, if so that could be the problem. Please also share WPML debug info to the related box I have enabled.
I don't know what happened in between but the media library now shows the correct number of files.
What I did in the process of trouble shooting:
wp rocket cache clear - did not make any difference
chrome browser cache clear - did not make any difference
upgraded the server to 8GB - did not make any difference
Opened the mac after 2 days rest.
And boom. magic: correct amount of media files listed in the media library?!
just shoot me.
maybe the debug codes can show you any changes as I initially shared it too just like today?
see screenshots below for the number of files shown in the library when I created this ticket last week.
- total files 26k - maybe the filenames reveal the source of this issue?
- only german files 2k
Thanks,
Jarco
p.s. I have another issue still with auto enrollement of translated courses which dont work. Ill make a new ticket for that one
It is difficult to say what went wrong, or what happened, from images you shared it doesn't look like an WPML cause issue, more like some optimization plugin created some version of images, or similar, as the image filename looks odd and preview is broken.
The only thing wpml does relate to image, is create sthe ame image entry for your 2nd language in DB; but still uses sthe ame filename, it is not duplicated.
In your case, it looks like real files, and the date is from July.
