Hi there,

We have migrated from development to production and the live site is using a different domain.
Right now I can't translate anything on the development site. There is a message at the top of our dev site:

You or someone else moved this site to hidden link. Please keep in mind that:
Translations that you do at hidden link will not appear on this site.
You cannot edit translations on this site.
The site at hidden link is using the same credits for automatic translation as this site.

If you didn't intend to move this site to hidden link, you can indicate that this site should be at hidden link.

Is there a way to disconnect the dev and live site?

I've tried looking at this documentation (https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/using-advanced-translation-editor-when-you-move-or-use-a-copy-of-your-site/#using-wpml-on-two-domains), but it doesn't help much.

From the message, it's saying that both sites are using the same credits for automatic translation, so is there a way to disconnect them? I don't want to always having to switch back and forth.

Thank you!

Hello,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. The issue here seems that you moved your site from dev to prod instead of copying it. Move is from permanent move (think change of domain name).

We have several tickets of clients experiencing the same issue and a new interface is planned for a next release but in the meantime:
1. You can safely switch between sites for now
2. You can also try to deactivate our Advanced Translation Editor (ATE) in "WPML > Settings > Translation Editor > Editor for new translations" and reactivate it.
3. I'll send you a private answer below with some database modifications

Thank you Nicolas! It seems to work by following your instructions. So the next release will have a new interface that resolve this issue, correct?

Hi,

Yes, not really a "fix" but a new UX that should be implemented in the next release to better explain the different between "Site Copied" and "Site moved" and avoid confusion amongst clients. And with an option to revert back in case the client choose the wrong option at first.

Anyway, I'm glad you could solve it. I'll close this ticket now, but feel free to open a new ticket anytime you have questions, we will be happy to help.

Have a good day ahead, Bye 🙂

In short:
- Site moved: only for permanent moves (change of domain name)
- Site copied: whenever you need a copy and both sites will exist (staging / dev / start a new site)
