Background of the issue:
I am trying to edit translated pages in Elementor for layout and SEO purposes. I load translated pages to make temporary changes to achieve the desired layout, as French translations are usually longer and disrupt my layout. The issue can be seen at hidden link.

Symptoms:
Elementor saves changes made on pages by default, even if I do not click the Publish button, resulting in undesirable modifications.

Questions:
How can I prevent Elementor from saving changes automatically on translated pages?
Is there a way to grey out the Publish button to avoid saving unwanted changes?

Hey there,

To create/edit translations with Elementor, it's necessary to disable the WPML Translation Editor for that page. Otherwise, you can get to conflicts like the one you are having.

You can find more details here:
https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-different-translation-editors-for-different-pages/

It's necessary to completely delete the translation (switch the language in the top bar, find the translation and send it to the trash. Finally, remove it from the trash completely), switch to the WP Editor, like explained in the link, and recreate the translation using Elementor. You can copy the content from the original and edit the texts or make the changes as you wish.

Here are more details about copying vs. duplicating your content:
https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/displaying-untranslated-content-on-pages-in-secondary-languages/

Unfortunately, it's not possible to translate the page using WPML and later edit it directly. Let me know if you have any questions.

I think you missed the point. I do NOT want to edit the translated pages. I only want to review them and make changes in WPML ATE.

Hey there,

Sorry, I think I misunderstood that, indeed. Can you please share a screen recording, using Loom, showing me the error? This way I can better assist you.
