[Resolved] How to translate author page elements (title, meta description, bio)
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client needed to translate the SEO title, meta description, and author bio of the author archive page on their website using WPML. Solution: 1. Navigate to WPML > String Translation. 2. In the bottom section, enable "Edit user roles" within the "Translate user properties" section. 3. Use the text search field at the top or select specific text domains to find the strings you want to translate. 4. Optionally, create a translation job for these strings at WPML > Translation Management > Dashboard > Other texts. 5. If the author's text is not available for translation, go to the user profile, edit and save the text again, and ensure it is registered new in WPML > String Translation. Adjust the source language of the string if necessary. For detailed guidance, refer to the following documentation:

Background of the issue:
I would like to translate the elements of the Author page into different languages on my site, hidden link. Specifically, I want to translate the SEO title, meta description of the author archive page, and the author bio shown in the profile using WPML.
Symptoms:
No specific issue or error message mentioned.
Questions:
How can I translate the SEO title of the author archive page using WPML?
How can I translate the meta description of the author archive page using WPML?
How can I translate the author bio shown in the profile using WPML?
- Enabled "Edit user roles" under the "Translate user properties" section.
- Searched for the description field and checked various domains including usermeta, wp_users, and general strings.
Unfortunately, I’m still unable to locate the actual string corresponding to the author biography. I also tried searching by a fragment of the bio text itself, but no results appeared.
Is it possible that the string is not being registered properly for translation?
If so, is there a way to manually register it or ensure it’s detected?
I’d appreciate any further guidance on how to make this field available for translation.

After enabling the option to translate the user strings in WPML > String Translation, did you try to make a small edit inside the user profile and save the fields again?
Thanks for your suggestion. Yes I edited the user profile, made a small change to the Biographical Info field, and saved it — but unfortunately, the string still doesn’t show up in the String Translation section.
I’ve searched for the text in every possible way: by keyword, usermeta, wp_users, description, biography — and even by specific phrases from the text itself — but nothing appears.
Let me know if there’s anything else I should try, or if you need more details from my side.

Hi Andreas,
Just to clarify: the Biographical Info text I’m trying to translate is the following:
I’ve been living in France for many years with my French wife and our Franco-Argentinian daughter.
I know this amazing country very well — we’ve been exploring it for a long time, and it holds a special place in my heart.
I’ve always shared my passion for travel with those around me, and now I’d love to help you plan your own trip.
I know trip planning can often feel overwhelming and frustrating. That’s why I created this blog about France — especially its charming small towns — so you can start enjoying your journey from the moment you begin planning it.
FR: Je vis en France depuis des années et je partage ici mes lieux préférés — en particulier ses petits villages de charme.
ES: Vivo en Francia desde hace años y en este blog comparto mis rincones favoritos — sobre todo sus pequeños pueblos encantadores.

You’ll find it under Users > About Yourself > Biographical Info.

If you go to WPML > String Translation and click the link at the bottom "Translate texts in admin screens" I can find the string. It seems to belong to a widget block.
See screenshot.
I have added the strings now, please try to translate it.
The string shown in the screenshot you sent is similar, but it’s not the correct one.
As I mentioned in my previous message, the correct text starts with:
"I’ve been living in France for many years with my French wife and our Franco-Argentinian daughter."
The one in your image starts with:
"I'm Diego and I've been living..."
Would you be able to help me locate the one I shared earlier? That’s the one currently visible in the author box on the frontend, and the one I’d like to translate.
Thanks again for your guidance. I’ve updated the WPML plugin to the latest version and followed the instructions in the guide you shared. I successfully located and translated the author meta strings under WPML > String Translation.
However, the translations are not being reflected on the frontend — the original version still appears, even after completing and saving the translations.
I also tried modifying the original (source) string directly, but the change does not show up in the String Translation interface.
Additionally, I’ve cleared all caches (both from the WordPress plugin and server-side), but the issue persists. It seems like the translations and updates aren’t being applied/rendered properly.
Do you have any suggestions on what I could try next?
Just a quick follow-up regarding the author bio translation issue.
While reviewing the Author string in the WPML translation editor, I noticed that the original language is set to English, when in fact the default lenguaje is the spanish.
Could this mismatch be contributing to the issue — preventing the correct rendering of translations on the frontend?

The source language of the string is English, as you can see on the flag.
The only "Spanish" I can see here is the admin text on the backend. This admin text or the site default language inside WPML does not have any influence on the source language of posts, pages, or strings.
