Background of the issue:
I am trying to use the Translations Manager in WPML to duplicate my original language product to other languages. We're using the Yoast plugin, which is compatible, to set multiple categories to a product and define one as primary. More info: hidden link.

Symptoms:
The duplicated product has multiple categories and one set as primary in the back-end, but the front-end version doesn't display the breadcrumbs as it should.

Questions:
Why doesn't the front-end display the breadcrumbs correctly for the duplicated product?
Is there a compatibility issue between WPML and the Yoast plugin affecting category duplication?

Hi,

before your ticket is assigned to one of my colleagues, please allow me to walk you through some initial debugging steps. This will help speed up the support process.

Compatibility is provided through our WPML SEO Add-on, which acts as a "glue" plugin between WPML and Yoast. Based on the WPML Debug information you shared, it doesn’t appear to be active. Please verify if it’s activated for the sub-site within your multisite setup.

Best regards,
Marcel

Hello,

it is installed and active. We're on a multisite so maybe that's why you don't see it but it is here. I can grant access if needed.

Thank you

Hello there,

Thank you for contacting WPML support. I'd be happy to assist you on this issue.

The default category must be saved as a custom fields and if we set that custom fields as copy in WPML->Settings-Custom Field Translations, it should synchronize between the languages.

More details: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-custom-fields/

To help you further on this issue, To debug this issue further, I would need to check your site settings once, for this I would need temporary access (wp-admin and ftp) to your site.

So could you please provide me with those details, you will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply.

Hello there,

Thank you for the details.

Can you follow the below steps and see if it helps:
https://wpml.org/errata/yoast-uncategorized-category-in-breadcrumbs-posts/

Also, see if it works on products where you have translated it instead of duplicating.

Further, Have you tried disabling all non-WPML plugins, switching to one of the default themes, and checking whether the issue still persists or not?

Please remember to create a backup of your site (both files and the database) before making any updates or changes. This is always a good practice.

Look forward to your reply.

Thanks
