This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is unable to permanently change the website name in different language versions through Customize > Site Identity. After publishing, the changes revert back to the default language.
Solution:
First, ensure that the correct string for translation is 'Site/blog title and tagline under name'. If this string is not visible in WPML's String Translation, follow these steps:
1. Navigate to WPML >> String Translation page.
2. Click on the Translate texts in admin screens link at the bottom of the page.
3. Search for your string and add it for translation.
4. Return to the WPML >> String Translation page and input your translations.
If the string to be translated is 'admin_texts_ngg_options', and you need to change the source language of the string, follow these steps:
1. Click on the box of that string.
2. At the bottom, click change language of string and set it to the correct language.
3. Add your translation.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate the website name on hidden link. When I switch to a different language version and go to Customize > Site Identity, I change the text to the corresponding language but when I click publish and open it again it reverts back to the default language.

Symptoms:
The website name reverts back to the default language after attempting to change it in Customize > Site Identity and clicking publish. The website's name is in the default language in google search results as well, everything else is translated properly.

Questions:
What can I do to apply the changes to the site identity?

Hi there,

Thanks for contacting WPML support.

The Site title and Tagline can be translated with the String Translation module. Please go to WPML > String Translation, and search for the original text then add the translation.

Kindly check this guide for more details: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/

Kind regards,
Drazen

Hello, Drazen.

The problem is that I've already done that like two months ago and still no change.

Or at least I think I've made it. Still no change.

Please see the screenshot below. You can see everything else apart from Elementor forms is translated.

Maybe if you can tell me which string exactly should I look for for the Website name translation, I will check again.

Hello,

that is not the correct string, it needs to say Site/blog title and tagline under name. Try searching for that and if you do not see it in WPML string translation you need add that admin text for translation:

- Navigate to WPML >> String Translation page and click on the Translate texts in admin screens » link at the bottom of the page.
- Search for your string and add it for translation.
- Return to the WPML >> String Translation page and input your translations.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Drazen

Hello again,

this is something new and I haven't done it for sure.

I have two last questions before I think the issue will be resolved.

1st - looking at the screenshot, I've added the strings I think should be the right ones. admin_texts_wpml_shortcode_list and admin_texts_ngg_options , but I'm not sure which one is the correct?

2nd question - if the second one is the correct string to translate to change the site name to the proper one, its English value at the moment is in Bulgarian, how can I change the English value? I see how to add the other language values, but how do I change the default English one? Again shown in the screenshot.

Thanks

Hello,

the correct string should be admin_texts_ngg_options, to change language click on the box of that string, and at the bottom click change language of string and change it to the correct one, and then add translation.

Thank you for the help!

I've translated the string as instructed and added the adequate translations.

Now I guess I have to wait for it to refresh in Google's index.
