Background of the issue:
I was trying to maintain a fast website, but after installing WPML, the website became very slow. We attempted to improve speed by adding WP Rocket and configuring it in different ways, but it didn’t help. The issue can be seen at hidden link.
Symptoms:
The website became very slow after installing WPML.
Questions:
How can I improve the website speed after installing WPML?
Why didn't WP Rocket help in speeding up the website?
The website is copied to our server and I did a few things including:
1. Setting troubleshooting steps.
- IMPORTANT STEP! Create a backup of your website. Or better approach will be to test this on a copy/staging version of the website to avoid any disruption of a live website.
- Go to "WordPress Dashboard > WPML > Support > Troubleshooting (link)".
- Click the buttons annotated in the screenshot below one by one and wait for each button process to finish: https://wpml.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/7206941-buttons.png
2. Installing the debug bar to see if there is any sort of big queries happening by WPML.
- Go to the website homepage while logged in: hidden link
- You will see a debug icon at the top right. Click that and you will see the big queries there.
- I could not see any significant query that might be the problem cause
---------
I checked the front end of the website now and I do not see a difference between when WPML is off and when it is on.
I wanted to check the website you have mentioned. But there is no WPML plugin installed there.
To be able to compare the speed I used the Pagespeed website:

For desktop, it gave me 49 score. But I can not compare it with a version with WPML as there is no WPML installed there.
I would like to know the scenarios below:
Score with WPML
Score without WPML
Score with WPML but other plugins deactivated
Score without WPML and other plugins deactivated
That way I can judge how is the speed in relation to the scenarios above.
As mentioned on the copied version I do not see a big difference.
