Background of the issue:
I am trying to maintain the multilingual functionality of our website using WPML with the Eduma theme. We are experiencing issues with homepage translations disappearing after plugin updates. The Eduma theme is officially listed as WPML compatible. The issue can be seen at hidden link.

Symptoms:
After plugin updates, the homepage translation disappears, reverting to the original language. We have to manually rebuild the translated content.

Questions:
Is this a known issue related to WPML’s compatibility with the Eduma theme or its plugins?
How can we protect homepage translations from being overwritten or removed after updates?
Is there a workaround or permanent solution to ensure translations remain intact?

Hello there,

I'll help you get started while a supporter takes your case.

Could you please let us know how is it that you're translating that page? it may tell us why is it getting wiped every time you update the plugin (since that is definitely not normal).

Thanks in advance,

We translate it using Elementor. We don’t know why the translation gets erased — it most likely happens after one of the plugins is updated. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to notice exactly when this occurs.

Hi there,

Do you use the automatic translation method or manually translate via Elementor?

Also, are there any other pages affected or just the homepage?

At the moment there is no known issue that would cause this behavior therefore we will need to try and reproduce the issue so we can work backwards to find what might cause it.

We translate manually using Elementor. What is needed to reproduce this issue?

Is the issue only reproduced after you update the plugin?

As mentioned there are no known bugs or issues for us to know why this is happening especially when using the manual translation method.

If you review the revision history of the page do you notice any changes ?

There is no history because we frequently clear it to optimize the website.

Is there a way we can reproduce this behavior?

if you are using the manual translation via the WP Editor/Elementor tranlsator it is important to keep that page using that option and not switching to the ATE editor otherwise you could lose your transaltions as the 2 do not communicate.

I can see you had this issue previously as well, were you able to follow the recommendations of my colleague?

We are using Yoast SEO as our SEO plugin.
Given that we are manually translating pages via Elementor and not using the ATE editor, we would appreciate guidance on the best way to ensure our SEO setup works correctly with this workflow.

Are there any known limitations or recommended practices in this case?

There are not.

If you are using the manual translation without ATE then it's simple to use Yoast SEO as well.

When you click on the edit button to edit the tranlsation it will open in the WP editor, before you click on "translate with Elementor", you can scroll down and edit Yoast SEO items directly and click update.

What you want to make sure is the following:

1. The specific page you are using this workflow with is set to use the WordPress Editor

see here: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-different-translation-editors-for-different-pages/

2. If you ever use the "Duplicate" feature only do it the first time when creating the page and then at the top right click on "stop synchronization"

3. Do not use the copy existing content feature because that will overwrite the translation work.

Please let me know if you would like me to record a screencast going over this recommended workflow.

This is exactly what we do, so the problem lies elsewhere. Please help us identify the problem.

It's important to note that if we cannot reproduce this behavior I can't suggest a fix here as this is not a known issue.

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to test the issue.
(preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible)

**Before we proceed It is necessary to take FULL BACKUP of your database and your website. Providing us with access, you agree that a backup has been taken **

I often use the Duplicator plugin for this purpose: http://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/
You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply.
The information you enter is private which means only you and I have access to it.

NOTE: If access to the live site is not possible and the staging site does not exist please provide me with a duplicator package created with the duplicator plugin.

Thank you,
Bobby

I can see that you are using the Classic Translation Editor and have deactivated the ATE editor.

The WordPress editor option is also selected for the homepage.

When I review the elementor history for the homepage I can see that a lot of edits were made around April 1st and this is when the page showed up in English.

Not sure if that was the day it was created or possibly the day the issue surfaced.

I was also able to review the Classic Translation Editor tranlsations before you switched to manual and can confirm that it was used and not fully translated, if a user was to switch between the 2 an issue like this could arise, however, at the moment I don't see anything wrong with the configuration nor a bug with WPML.
