Hello. I have started translating my website but the page settings don't seem to carry over. You can check this on the home page. hidden link

The English version is as it should be, but the Portuguese version displays with a header and the menus are all mess up. (See attached image.

Thanks,

Anne

Hi,

Thank you for contacting WPML Support. If you want to keep exact page layout on all languages:

1. Either you can duplicate the original page to secondary language and then translate text from the secondary page.

2. Or you can mark page settings fields to as copy from WPML >> Settings >> Multilingual Content Setup >> Custom Fields Translation so that it will maintain the same value in both pages.

Please let me know if this resolves your issue or you need further assistance with this issue.

Thank you

Hi Noman.

Thanks for your speedy reply.

I am not sure I follow. I tried with a new page to make duplicate. I then got a message that WPML will no longer sync the page with the original content. I don't understand what that means ?

Also I don't understand what you want me to check in WPML settings. I added a screenshot of the section I think corresponds. Will this retroactively fix all the pages I already translated that are not displaying correctly ?

I watched your youtube video on using WPML with Elementor, but it seems out of date. Do you have better documentation elsewhere ?

Thanks,

Anne

>> It means you can have different content in page translation independently. Here is doc for more details:
https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/displaying-untranslated-content-on-pages-in-secondary-languages/using-content-duplication/#differentiate-between-translation-and-duplicate

>> Yes I believe it will work otherwise you need to update the primary language page to copy the custom field setting to the secondary page.

You can set all fields as ‘Copy’ that are starting with the “ast” word in your screenshot.

Hi Noman. I tried setting the Custom Fields Translation options you suggested to copy, but nothing has changed on the existing pages. (see attached image for boxes I ticked "copy")

>> Yes I believe it will work otherwise you need to update the primary language page to copy the custom field setting to the secondary page.

How do I do that ?

What happens when you re-save the existing primary language page? Does it work in this way?

If still an issue persists, please provide temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP Login info) to your site (preferably staging site), so that I can look into your setup and debug the issue.

Your next answer will be private which means only you and I have access to it.

=== Please backup your database and website ===

✙ I would additionally need your permission to deactivate and reactivate Plugins and the Theme, and to change configurations on the site. This is also a reason the backup is really important.

✙ Please provide me with a page/post link where I can see this issue.

Thank you
