This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is experiencing difficulty with users switching languages via the language switcher in the navigation menu. They want to display both Dutch and English flags next to each other in the main menu.
Solution:
We recommend customizing the Language Switcher to display both language flags next to each other in the main menu. You can find this option under WPML > Languages > Menu Language Switcher. For detailed guidance, please refer to our documentation: Language Switcher Options.

If this solution does not apply to your case, or if it seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Background of the issue:
I am trying to make it easier for users to switch languages via the language switcher in the navigation menu. My client finds it difficult, and I also experience issues sometimes. I want to display both language flags (Dutch & English) next to each other in the main menu. Link to a page where the issue can be seen: hidden link

Symptoms:
The language switcher in the navigation menu is difficult to use, requiring more than one attempt to change languages.

Questions:
Would it be possible to display both language flags (Dutch & English) next to each other in the main menu?

Hey there,

Yes, WPML offers the option to customize your Language Switcher as you described. You can find the options in WPML > Languages > Menu Language Switcher.

Please refer to our documentation:
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-switcher-options/

Let me know if this answers your question.

Hi Lucas,

I know that documentation but did read it again. Unfortunately it does not tell me if and how language flags can be displayed next to each other.

Hey there,

I understand, no problem. I recorded a video, showing where you can change that:

In the video, I shared the settings of the Footer language switcher, because I didn't have a menu in the testing website. Nonetheless, the steps are the same. Let me know if this helps you 🙂

Many thanks!

Turns out that the Dutch translation of the interface is not really good & I therefore missed this display option.
