I am hoping to set a unique Default Form Value in a Variation for a second language

I made you a quick/short screen recording about it: ....

Hi there,

I checked on the site but it looks like the Form value is not locked for translations. For example for the product hidden link as shown in the screenshot attached.7

Am I missing something here? Can you please let me know more details on where/how can I see the issue?

Also, can you please let me know what plugin/code or tool provides this default form value option in the products?

Regards,
Subash

Hi Subash!

Thank you so much for your response and assistance with this! 🙂

Okay, so I checked the exact link that you sent and sure enough, it's still locked for me, alas! Here is a screen recording showing you more detail: hidden link

If you were to check again, is it truly still NOT locked for you when the product Edit screen loads?

Also, as a more baseline question, do you know if the Default Form Value SHOULD be unlocked (or locked) as a general rule for WPML in a translated language? Is there any documentation on this particular part of WPML in general by chance on expected/standard behavior?

My thanks ahead of time for any response you can give as able! Thanks, Subash!

Hi there,

Thank you for the updates and sorry for the confusions.

It looks like last time ti checked the page didn't fully loaded at my end.

I now see the issue and it looks like this is intentionally locked. However for a second thought and to see if we can have some workaround I have escalated the issue further to our team. I will update you here as soon as I have an update.

Regards,
Subash

Hi there,

Our second tier team confirmed that it is intended that the attributes for translated products are locked and it cannot be changed.

Very sorry for any inconveniences caused due to this, If you still need to use different default form values for different languages you can translate the product manually as explained in the next link:

Thank you so much, Subash!

I can accept that we would have to manually translate the WooCommerce products that needed a different default form value on a one-by-one basis.

QUESTION: Do you think the team would ever consider changing the way this works for the Default Form Value on WooCommerce Products (do you think they'd be open to considering it and it might be possible) or do you think it will always be this way and never change because it is impossible to pull off?

I ask because in our case, our WooCommerce Product Variations are targetted to each language differently. For the English visitors, we'd want to show them the English product by default, but for the Spanish-speaking visitor, we'd want to show them the Spanish version of that product by default so they don't accidentally add the English one to their cart.

Anyhow, we love everything about WPML's Automatic Translation as opposed to Manual Translation, so it feels sad to have to switch over to manual translations for so many products just because we need that one feature (default variation) which doesn't even really have to do with translation. I wonder if the team would ever be able to have a quick review and see if perhaps there could be an additional checkbox in the WooCommerce Multilingual settings that could say, "Allow different default variation value between translations" (kind of like the "Products Media Synchronization" allows), or even a checkbox on the product edit page that you can check to NOT sync this particular value (Default Form Value).

Do you know if the team would even ever be able to consider something like this by chance?

Thanks, as always, for your help Subash!

Hi there,

I discussed this further with our team and it looks like we are not developing a feature to use different default form value for translation products any time soon.

There are multiple reasons for this including technical feasibility and demand for the feature. I am sorry for any inconveniences caused due to this.

Subash
