This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client is experiencing a connection error when trying to connect the WPML plugin to wpml.org, despite having green check marks for WPML API server, Toolset API server, cURL, and simpleXML. Solution: If you're experiencing this issue, we recommend you ensure that the site URL and the registered site URL match exactly, including details like 'www'. Here are the steps to resolve the issue: 1. Log in to your WPML.org account and navigate to the Sites page: https://wpml.org/account/sites/ 2. Delete the existing site key. 3. Log in to your site, go to the Dashboard >> Plugins >> Add new plugin >> Commercial tab and click the Unregister WPML from this site link if it exists. 4. Click the Register WPML link. 5. Click the Get a key for this site link, which will generate a new key. 6. Copy and paste the new key into the input box and press the Register button. If the issue persists, try the following additional step: - Go to WP Dashboard Menu >> Updates and press the "Check again" link.
This solution might be irrelevant if it's outdated or not applicable to your case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the problem continues, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
Background of the issue:
I am working on a development site and trying to install WPML plugins. I attempted to import existing plugins and received a connection error. I deleted the existing plugins and installed The OTGS install, but the same connection error occurred. I have added the site to the list of registered sites. (note that we looking at the error log uploaded -- today is the 17th). I read your install manual.
Symptoms:
WPML plugin cannot connect to wpml.org. Despite the green check marks indicating no issues with the WPML API server, Toolset API server, cURL, and simpleXML, the connection error persists.
Questions:
Why is the WPML plugin unable to connect to wpml.org despite the green check marks?
What steps can I take to resolve the connection issue on a hosted site with limited tech support?
I included non relevant DEBUG info since you offer NO WAY to get past the request for formated JSON. This site cannot get past installlation and the installer fails and there no formatted debug info is available. Please disregard the debug info taken from an active site.
Thank you for contacting WPML Support. This issue usually happens when the site URL and registered site URL are not the same e.g. with www or without www. Could you please delete the existing site key and create a new one by following the below steps:
1. Please login to your WPML.org account >> Go to the Sites page: https://wpml.org/account/sites/
2. Delete the existing site key.
3. Please login to your site and go to the Dashboard >> Plugins >> Add new plugin > Commercial tab and click the Unregister WPML from this site link if that link exists.
4. Then please click the Register WPML link.
5. Click the Get a key for this site link.
6. It will generate the Key for your site.
7. Copy the key, and paste it back into the input box, and press the Register button.
If the notifications still persists, please try the below procedure:
1. Go to WP Dashboard Menu >> Updates.
2. Press the "Check again" link as you can see in the attached screenshot and see if this resolves the issue.
Hi -- The OTGS plugin did not install the CMS plugin, so I installed. The issue with not being able to contact wpml.org is gone -- but after installing the cms plugin I got this message
We have detected a problem with some tables in the database. Please contact WPML support to get this fixed.
