I am going to build a multilingual wordpress store for a client. However I have some questions, hope that you can help.
1. Two months back, I saw a free version with a list of plugins to install. Is it now changed to a paid version?
2. Does the paid version include professional language translations for the whole site? What does the language packs include translations for? e.g. buttons/CMS functions/web navigations?
What about the type of support included?
3. Do you have a list of the languages that you support? I would like to see the list. Specifically, I need Japanese and Burmese. Is it possible?
4. If I find paid commercial themes, do I need to find one with WPML support? or any specific requirements?
5. Does the plugins include a feature (buttons/dropdown/links) for website to switch between installed languages?
Hope that you can help me answer the above questions as soon as possible. I hope to settle some of these requirements by today. Thank you!
Hi, thanks for your detailed questions. Let me answer them:
1. Two months back, I saw a free version with a list of plugins to install. Is it now changed to a paid version?
WPML was offered for free long time ago (a few years ago I guess). Now we only offer the paid version.
2. Does the paid version include professional language translations for the whole site?
No. This is possible but paid extra. It depends on the number of words you have. Please contact our ICanLocalize service for more details. This ICanLocalize service is a part of our company and fully integrated with WPML. So all work is done from and delivered to your WordPress site.
3. Do you have a list of the languages that you support? I
Thank you so much for the replies! I have some more queries.
1. I saw that there is an account renewal cost for the Multilingual CMS option. Is it a must to renew the account to use the wpml plugin and translations continuously? Or is it a cost only for support and updates?
2. I had asked about the type of support included with this plugin. Example we need English, Japanese and Burmese. Do we have to configure and install everything our self? Will you configure English and Japanese, then help us add the Burmese configuration as well before we add on specific translations? After reading up the link on adding language, it is very likely that we may need help with the Burmese configuration.
3. Are there any Burmese language packs that we can just install it in?
4. Do you have the list of the kind of translations would be included with the pre-configured languages? Example, will the store menu/widgets/buttons be translated? any others? This is so that we know what kind of translations we may need from ICanLocalize.
Hi Jam, hi again.
1. No need to renew. It is a cost only for support and updates. You can also upgrade to Lifetime by paying the difference. It will be possible 30 days before your current subscription expires. You will get a notification.
2. Thanks for clarifying. The setup is done once and it applies to all languages. So no extra setup for a specific language. The only exception is adding a language which is not supported by default. You need to add this language to WPML list. If the manual we provide is not clear for you and you need more help on this of course our support team will help you.
3. This language is not present in the WPML table of pre-configured languages https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/pre-configured-languages/
so you will need to add it manually using this manual https://wpml.org/documentation/support/editing-wpmls-languages-table/
4. The setup for translating different elements is ‘global’ (I mean you will find it in one place) for all languages. So the only thing you need to do is to add your languages. Some of them you just pick from our list. For other (like Burmese) you need to use the manual I linked above. Then, when you add translations you will see a separate input field for each language but they will be placed next to each other (or one under another), always gathered in one place.
See this example: https://d2salfytceyqoe.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/translating_strings.png
WPML doesn’t translate your content automatically. No single element will be translate. You have to add the translations yourself or use the ICanLocalize service. Of course you can use the ICanLocalize service only for some pages/posts not for everything. Up to you.
Does this help?
Feel free to buy WPML and test it yourself. In case it doesn’t satisfy your needs, ask for refund and we will give your money back: https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/
I found the part where I can set the WordPress site language which could just change the CMS into the new language available as well as updating translation for Woocommerce. Sorry for that, you may ignore my question. 🙂
WPML wasn’t officially tested with this one. You can try it yourself. If you run into any issues you can ask for a refund and we will give your money back: https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/
Please note that you can use WPML for different sites so maybe you will find WPML suitable for site built without thie Live composer.
Hi Dave, this is exactly how the WPML works. You will have one site and you will only add translations to your contents. For posts and pages you will create a new copy and add the translation. For other elements such as menus, different strings (“Read more” etc) you will have dedicated edit screens where you add translations.
Just to make sure, the basic version of WPML can only translate blog posts content, correct? If we want the menus and other features translated, we need to get WPML CMS?
I’d also like to know how easy it is to switch from basic to CMS.
Hi Dominique,
you can translate menus with the Blog version too. Upgrading from the Blog version to CMS is easy. You must be logged in your WPML account and you will see a link there. Then you will get access to more WPML modules (such as String Translations etc) and you will need to install them.
I purchased Blog version some time ago, and now I even can’t re-download purchased product. I think about upgrade to CMS and pay difference. Is this mean I need to buy full product again?
Hello,
if you have an active account you can upgrade from CMS and pay the difference. But if your subscription has already expired first you need to renew it. Please log into your WPML again and you will see all the possibilities you have now. You will find all the links in your account.
So, where is my purchase I made before? I see only free plugins available, but I cant download CMS files from my account, even the versions I able to download before this subscription ends? I not mean latest updates.
Do you mean, my subscription ends and I cant use and re-download software purchased before? I see only option to “lifetime upgrade” for $166?
Hi!
I have bought WPML Blog version, but I will be using WooCommerce and I think I need WPML CMS version in order for that to work.
This is showing up in the website and when WPML is activated product links show up as 404 not found.

Hi, I have a quick question about WPML. Does each individual page on a website contain different languages or are there duplicates of each page based on the selected language?
The question is: at the moment my language site is Italian. To have a good translation in other languages have I to start from english? If I install WPML, have I to start from english or not? Is it better if I start form english?
Is it possible to use WPML for more than one site?
Hi Monica,
both scenarios are possible to set with WPML.
When you install WPML, it will ask you to set your primary language.
If your site is already in Italian, it is better to set Italian as your primary language. But you can always change the primary language later as well.
Yes, you can use WPML for all your sites and also for sites you are building for your customers.

Hello
I have a site in Greek but I want to have it in English too.
I saw your plugin and I find it interesting. So I want to ask you before I will purchase it
1. can I have a trial version for some days so I can test it and then purchase it?
2. I want when they open the page of my site to select which language they want. I think this is the way your plugin works. Correct?
3. My theme is wallmag (news). Is it compatible with WPML?
Hi Dimitrios,
1. We don’t have a typical trial version but You can buy WPML and test it for 30 days. If it turns out that it doesn’t satisfy your needs use our refunds policy and we will give your money back: https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/
you will see how it looks like from the front-end perspective. In your back-end you will create posts/pages in different languages – you add the translations.
so it means that this theme wasn’t tested by our Compatibility Team. You might have issues with some custom options. But the basic elements like pages, posts, categories, menus will be translated without any problems with any theme.
You can use one WPML license for all your sites. So best would be to purchase it and test yourself. Anything wrong found, use this link for a refund:
will wpml localize where the user is browsing from and set that specific language (if available)?
I mean, my site is italian and I installed german english and russian. If someone visit my site frome german will the german language display as default?
Hi Paolo,
WPML can automatically redirect visitors according to browser language. This option is disabled by default so you need to go to WPML settings and enable it.
I am new creating my website and would like to know if I purchase option “Multilingual blog” and then I need a further step, can I submit to “Multilingual CMS” by just paying the difference?
thks
Yes, it works like you expect. To upgrade your subscription from the Blog version to CMS you need to be logged in your WPML account and you will find a relevant link for it there.
My client has a site with 50 English pages, 15 French and one each for Chinese, Russian and Japanese. The 15 French pages do not have a 1:1 relationship with the English pages.
if i buy the WPML for one year licence, and i decide to upgrade after a hlf year to the life time version, is that possible and pay the different between the one year licence and lifetime price
Hi I want to ask you about the posts.
Does WPML translate all the posts, menus etc or should I do this?
I have to make the translation or it translates it?
Hello,
Looking for help in purchasing the correct plugin for our web designer.
Our website was hacked recently and we have a WordPress developer rebuilding the site and requires use to purchase some plug-ins. He needs the following:
WPML Multilingual CMS
WPML Translation Management
WPML String Translation
My question is if I purchase the Multilingual CMS Lifetime (https://wpml.org/purchase/) will that give us everything listed above?
The WordPress programmer we are using is not familiar with this plug-in, so he wasn’t sure if purchasing this would give us all we need.
I require a website that will be in English, but translated into several languages, which is automatically. For example if the website is opened in France, the French translation will automatically display, not the English, however there will be the option to switch to any of the languages as required (a drop down set of flags at the top of page). Please confirm this is all possible? Many thanks
Hi Danny, WPML doesn’t translate your site automatically. The purpose to make your site multilingual it to attract original traffic from search engines. Google doesn’t like automatic translation.
WPML allows you to switch your site to a given language based on your browser setting and the the user have a switcher to change the language as needed but all translations must be delivered by your or you can use our professional translation service which is integrated but paid extra.
Hi,
Are you available to set up the WPML plugin also? we need help to set up the Spanish pages once we have completed the English pages (I believe we have to provide the translation, correct?). How much would it cost about?. We have 3 pages and 10 properties. A ball park is fine for now.
If not, can you recommend someone? Thanks.
Hello, WPML is easy to set up, at least the basics such as adding languages, pages, posts. Our support people can help you if you run into problems but if you need a dedicated person to help you here are the WPML consultants:
I am going to build a new multilingual (3 languages) webstore using Woocommerce and WPML. English will be one of the available languages but the main languages for the majority of my customers are actually the other two languages.
If possible I would still prefer to have the WordPress/Woocommerce backend in English, even though the primary language for most site visitors is something else – since most instructions for setting up WordPress and plugins are in English I would prefer to do admin work with the site in English.
I know I can translate a big part of Woocommerce more or less automatically by changing the language in the WordPress backend, but then my entire backend will of course be in this language.
What would be the ideal order of setting up thing like I want them for my site?
Hi Mike,
sorry I’m not sure how you understand this:
I know I can translate a big part of Woocommerce more or less automatically by changing the language in the WordPress backend,
WPML doesn’t translate your contents automatically.
WPML allows you to change the language of your back-end but this applies to the WordPress interface not to the contents. And yes, you can change the back-end language independently of the language of your front-end.
But no content (pages/posts/products) are translated automatically.
If I change the backend language settings in WP, Woocommerce can automatically download and apply the language pack for that language. Naturally it can’t change all your content, but it does seem to change some of the text snippets that are integrated with Woocommerce (add to cart buttons etc.).
I guess what I’m after, wanting the backend in English, is whether this is what I should do first (automatically apply the Woocommerce language pack for my main language) – or if would be better do do all translation work through WPML?
I’m a web designer. Can I purchase this once and use it on a few websites that require WPML? On the purchase page package comparison, under websites, it says ‘unlimited’- I’m not sure what that means.
Hi, i search and search some lugin and your have the caracteristic i need and want, but reading and reading i found your plugin have vulnerabilities.

Yes, here it is:

so Japan is there, Burmese not. But you can add it manually:

I understand about the content translations that we will need to do all by ourselves.
How about the WordPress and Woocommerce CMS pages/functions (not the public site content) itself? Is it part of WPML or language packs from WordPress?
Hi,
I found the part where I can set the WordPress site language which could just change the CMS into the new language available as well as updating translation for Woocommerce. Sorry for that, you may ignore my question. 🙂
Hi Jam,
about using WPML together with the WooCommerce plugin.
You need to have WPML and WooCommerce installed and also install this free plugin:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/woocommerce-multilingual/
were are also the authors.
You will find all the details here:
https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/woocommerce-multilingual/
Dear sir/madam,
I have created a WordPress website with Live composer. I see your plugin works with visual composer, but does it alsof works with Live composer?
Hope to hear from you.

Hi I sent a Non-profit request 4 weeks ago and have not received any answer regarding a subscription, could you look into it please. Many Thanks
Let me contact the team responsible and we will get back to you soon.
Hi,
Will WPML allow me to have a mix of translations with some as subfolders AND others on specific language domains like .es and .ar, for example:
Main Domain in English: http://www.mydomain.com
French translation: http://www.mydomain.com/fr/
Irish translation: http://www.mydomain.com/ie/
Spanish translation: http://www.spanish.com.es
Arabic translation: http://www.arabic.com.ar
Please advise.
Hi, in WPML you will see both options but these are mutually exclusive. SO you either choose folders or subdomains.
Hi,
I would like to create our site similar to this site: http://www.canadapost.ca
I have separate websites in English and french but prefer one site and have global changes instead of changing each site independently (all the time).
Is this possible?
Hi Dave, this is exactly how the WPML works. You will have one site and you will only add translations to your contents. For posts and pages you will create a new copy and add the translation. For other elements such as menus, different strings (“Read more” etc) you will have dedicated edit screens where you add translations.
It is good to find a theme that is WPML fully compatible. You will find a list of such themes here:
https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/
they were tested by Our Compatibility team.
Hi there,
Just to make sure, the basic version of WPML can only translate blog posts content, correct? If we want the menus and other features translated, we need to get WPML CMS?
I’d also like to know how easy it is to switch from basic to CMS.
Thanks for the clarification! 🙂
Hi Dominique,
you can translate menus with the Blog version too. Upgrading from the Blog version to CMS is easy. You must be logged in your WPML account and you will see a link there. Then you will get access to more WPML modules (such as String Translations etc) and you will need to install them.
Thanks Agnes for the very quick reply! I’ll go for the Blog version first then 🙂
I purchased Blog version some time ago, and now I even can’t re-download purchased product.
Hi,
I have a pending payment in my account. Can I pay this order any way?

Hi, let us check it.

Hi,
you need to be logged in your WPML account to do so. You should find a link there to do so. You will only pay the difference. Then you will get access to all our plugins. Yes, the CMS version is required to use it together with WooCommerce.
Hi, I have a quick question about WPML. Does each individual page on a website contain different languages or are there duplicates of each page based on the selected language?
Kind Regards
Ron
Hi Ron,
for post and pages you create a peer post/page in another language(s). It will be stored in your WordPress as a separate post/page:
https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/creating-translations-manually/
and you will easily switch between different languages (both in your back-end and on the site’s front-end)
Does this answer your question?
The question is: at the moment my language site is Italian. To have a good translation in other languages have I to start from english? If I install WPML, have I to start from english or not? Is it better if I start form english?
Is it possible to use WPML for more than one site?

3. I cannot see your theme in this list:
https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/
so it means that this theme wasn’t tested by our Compatibility Team. You might have issues with some custom options. But the basic elements like pages, posts, categories, menus will be translated without any problems with any theme.
You can use one WPML license for all your sites. So best would be to purchase it and test yourself. Anything wrong found, use this link for a refund:

so there is no risk actually. You decide 🙂
PRE SALE QUESTION
Hello,
will wpml localize where the user is browsing from and set that specific language (if available)?
I mean, my site is italian and I installed german english and russian. If someone visit my site frome german will the german language display as default?
if not how is it possible to accomplish that?
Thanks
Hi Paolo,
WPML can automatically redirect visitors according to browser language. This option is disabled by default so you need to go to WPML settings and enable it.
Slide no 6 and 8 from my presentation in WordCamp Bratislava says more about it
http://www.slideshare.net/agabu/10-common-mistakes-wordpress-developers-make-when-building-multilingual-sites?ref=http://webfaces.pl/blog/zrobic-to-inaczej-o-lamaniu-schematow-na-wordcamp-bratislava/
You can watch it on WordPress TV as well:
http://wordpress.tv/2014/05/19/agnes-bury-10-common-mistakes-wordpress-developers-make-when-building-multilingual-sites/
the point is to make the site available for search engines. For this you need to include your language switcher as well.
Can each language have its own page hierarchy?
My client has a site with 50 English pages, 15 French and one each for Chinese, Russian and Japanese. The 15 French pages do not have a 1:1 relationship with the English pages.
Can this be done with WPML?
Hi Mike, yes, WPML can handle cases like this.
In WPML settings you will find this:
How to handle languages without translation
Some pages or posts may not be translated to all languages. Select how the language selector should behave in case translation is missing.
1. Skip language
2. Link to home of language for missing translations
HI
I want to confirm before buy plugin.

Ravinder
Hi,

Best regards Piet Wolthaar
Hi Piet, yes, it works exactly like this.
Hi I want to ask you about the posts.
Does WPML translate all the posts, menus etc or should I do this?
I have to make the translation or it translates it?
Hi, WPML doesn’t translate your content automatically, You provide the translations.
Hello,
Looking for help in purchasing the correct plugin for our web designer.
Any help in regards to this would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Anil
Yes, the Lifetime subscription includes everything. You will also have unlimited access to future releases and our support forum.

Hi,
I am going to build a new multilingual (3 languages) webstore using Woocommerce and WPML.
WPML doesn’t translate your contents automatically.
WPML allows you to change the language of your back-end but this applies to the WordPress interface not to the contents. And yes, you can change the back-end language independently of the language of your front-end.
But no content (pages/posts/products) are translated automatically.
Okay good. To clarify mu question:
If I change the backend language settings in WP, Woocommerce can automatically download and apply the language pack for that language. Naturally it can’t change all your content, but it does seem to change some of the text snippets that are integrated with Woocommerce (add to cart buttons etc.).
I guess what I’m after, wanting the backend in English, is whether this is what I should do first (automatically apply the Woocommerce language pack for my main language) – or if would be better do do all translation work through WPML?
Hi there,
I’m a web designer. Can I purchase this once and use it on a few websites that require WPML? On the purchase page package comparison, under websites, it says ‘unlimited’- I’m not sure what that means.
Many thanks in advance for your time.
Hi there,
yes, ‘unlimited’ means that you buy only one license and you can use it for all the sites you build.
