  1. Hi, we want to build a website with a woo commerce shop. The theme we chose supports wpml. The original language is English and the second language should be German.

No the question is: what happens, if we set up the page bilingual with wpml, but then decide that we do not need to second-language and would turn off wpml again?

Would the website, especially the shop still run properly? Or what would we need to do, if we then would decide that we don’t want to continue using wpml and want to switch back to the original language?

Or else, would it be possible to simply switch or turn off the wpml plugin but this site would still run properly, including the shop, on the original language?

    Looking forward to your answer.
    Arne

    • Hi Arne,
the translated pages and posts (including WooCommerce Products) are kept as separate WordPress posts in our database, so if you disable WPML you will see all of them, ungrouped. If you don’t need them anymore you simply have to delete them.

You can consider buying WPML and playing around with it for 30 days. During this trial time you can ask questions in our support forum. If it turns out that WPML is not good for you, use this refund policy:
      https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/

we will give your money back.

  2. to whom it may concern,

i and several others received a very suspect email telling us that you had reset our passwords and click to confirm. we strongly believe this to be a phishing email. did you send something like this out??? if so, why would you take this approach??

  3. Before buying WPML, I am testing how the plugin works on the wpml.org page itself.

I am testing using Internet Explorer, Chrome and Edge

First test: When I browse to wpml.org on all browser, the English page is loaded. If the browsers are set to Portuguese, why did this version not shown?

Second Test: I selected Portuguese as the desired language on the footer of your site. It changed to Portuguese. But If I close the browser and open a new session on wpml.org again, only the English version is shown. I expected the site would save my preference.

Is it normal behavior in WPML?

    Thank you,

    Igor.

    • Hi Igor, WPML doesn’t translate your contents automatically. You provide the translations. Using WPML in Portuguese is not the best example since we are not updating the contents in this language.

Here are some example site built with WPML and our customers:

  4. Hello,

We are a web development agency and frequently use wordpress for our clients. We would like to have wplm integrated in all the work that we do and we are wondering what type of license do we need to purchase and what are the terms.
If possible we would like a one time fee.

    Thank you.

    • Hi Mihai,
you need to buy only one license and you can use it for all your customers. If you want to pay once please consider the Lifetime subscription.

  5. Hi

Is this website wpml.org one and only seller/distributor of this WPML plugin for WordPress ? Because I found one selling WordPress plugins for less pricing than yours.

    Thanks

  6. HI

Your password reset tool is not working. I cannot access my account. I am having issues with hte Multilingual CMS install and need to load it again or access support from my account and cannot access my account.

    Please can you help?

    Mark

    • Hi Mark,
what do you mean by “not working”? What exactly are you doing and what happens?

Sorry for the inconvenience. We will try to help you.

  7. Hi , can i upgrade the Multilingual Blog version to Multilingual CMS version? The cost will be like a new purchase of the Multilingual CMS or i will pay only an upgrade fee?
Also with the 30 days return back money policy i can return the license and take my money in full within 30 days?
    thank you

    • You can upgrade from the Blog account to a CMS account and pay only the difference ($50). You don’t need to cancel the Blog account. Just log in and click on the ‘upgrade’ button, which will appear in your account page.

  8. Our company is global and we currently have a number of country-level tld such as .com.mx, .fr.de,etc. The main site is in English. Your documentation mentions that language content can be arrange on completely different domains. Just to make sure that I understand correctly, if I wanted the Spanish version of US site to be put onto example.com.mx we can do that? Also, we have a number of locations throughout the English speaking world – does WPML differentiate between en-us, en-gb,etc? Thank you

    • You can place different languages in different domains (or subdomains). Please see this FAQ for information how to configure your web server:
      https://wpml.org/faq/server-setting-for-languages-in-different-domains/

You can also add variants of languages. After you configure WPML, go to WPML-Languages and click on Edit Languages. Then, you can add your custom languages. When you add a custom language, you choose its name, set the locale (like en-gb) and flag.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    • WPML allows you to write content in Vietnamese. WPML user interface is mostly translated to Vietnamese. This is only important if you are running the WordPress admin in Vietnamese. It’s not related to the translation of your content. There may be some strings that need updating in WPML user interface to Vietnamese. We are working to complete this.

    • WPML doesn’t translate content automatically. It allows you to run a WordPress site in several languages, but it doesn’t automatically translate your content. Google is pretty strict against using machine translation as ‘your translation’. You can get translation work from several services via WPML. This translation work has its own cost, unrelated to the cost of WPML.

  9. If I purchase Multilingual CMS (Most popular), can I upgrade to lifetime plan if I am satisfied with this adding the extra amount to $79.

    • Sure. You can upgrade later to a Lifetime account and pay only the difference. If you buy a yearly account now ($79), you will need to pay $116 to upgrade to a Lifetime account later.

  10. I use the Divi theme with its page builder, and I have seen your video tutorial about using wpml with divi.
First thing, it’s great to see I can start using wpml today with divi.
From what i understand, i need to duplicate a page to translate it.
Does it mean that, if i make a change in the original page, such as adding a text module, it does not appear in the duplicated pages?
If not, what is your recommendation to replicate page updates in original page in each duplicate pages? When do you plan to release a new version of wpml which will be directly usable in the page builder, avoiding the duplication process?

    • Hi Luce,
you are right. You need to keep the pages in synch. How to avoid the duplication process? This is not so easy as it might look like when it comes to third party plugins. Soon we will write a post and release a free demo about the Layouts plugin. In sort, the Layouts plugin is a drag-and-drop editor for page layouts. Layouts works with Bootstrap-based themes and produces a responsive designs. It’s part of the Toolset package of WordPress development plugins.

The idea is to use only layout for all languages and only translate the texts inside it.

Stay tuned you will be able to check how it works with WPML for free soon.

    • Hi William,
you are right. If you buy the Lifetime subscription you will be able to use it in unlimited webpages and you will have access to free lifetime renew.

    • Hi Filip,
so you don’t need to translate the products but you want to offer them in different currencies only, right? Sorry, I need to understand the background of your problem to provide you with the best answer.

      • Yes we want translation only interface (structures )of site and different currencies to different language but product to be the same for all language because they are a lot, over 2500 with variation

  11. We are considering using WPML for translating our wordpress/memberium based site with membership.
I am a little confused about your Professional Translation services. Is it included in the pricing of the plugin purchase?

  12. Hi,

I’m building site using Zerif lite theme and wondering if I’ll manage to go with just basic $29 version or do I need the $79 version (and which functions make this version necessary).

    best,
    Marcin Sztomberski

    • Hi Marcin, if you don’t plan to translate your theme custom options, the blog version is enough. Please note that you can always upgrade to the CMS version and pay the difference only.

  13. Hello,

I am wondering if there is a trial version of the plugin which can be used, as I cannot see this anywhere?

    Many thanks
    Melanie

  14. Second question from me today:

Does the plugin have a translation memory function, as in will it save repetitions and notify you when it appears again, in order to allow consistency?

So for instance, if the string “home” appears several times within the same website, will the user have to manually enter the translation each time it appears or is it possible to retrieve the translation from an already translated string?

    Thanks

    • Hi Melanie, no, we don’t have such a thing. Sometimes the same words are translated difffrently depending on the context used.

  15. Hi,

I have the 2.6.0 version installed on a website but it is making wordpress very slow (I have tested which plugins take most time to load). Could you let me now how to check what the problem is and what is the average load time of WPML? I am having 2 languages on the website.

    Thanks

    • Hi Deyan,
the current WPML version is 3.2.7. A lot has changed since 2.6 including performance. If your old version has already expired please log into your account again and locate a link to renew your subscription. Then update your plugin and it doesn’t help ask your question on our technical forum.

  16. Hi there, i came accross this plugin i run a bunch of websites that i want to have autotranslated. However i want in the header menu some links to the translated content and would like it to be:
    mysite.com/EN/post-of-my-site
    and for an other language
    mysite.com/FR/post-in-other-language

however i also want it to be autotranslated in a proper manner so that google doesnt see it as spam. Does this plugin also translate to? Hindi, urdu, dutch, german? as those languages are a few main ones i want to focus on.

Hope to hear from you guys soon.

    • Hi Stuart,
no, WPML doesn’t autotranslate your contents. It allows you to have URLs as in your example:
      mysite.com/EN/post-of-my-site
      and for an other language
      mysite.com/FR/post-in-other-language

but you have to provide the translation. Or you can use one of the professional translation services integrated with WPML. The translations are done by humans but you pay extra for this.

By the way, Google and other search engine don’t like auto translations.

  17. hey

  18. Hi

I want to build a website that displays prices in pounds sterling for non members and virtual credit points for members. What I would like to know is if there’s a way to tap into a hook that allows me to change the currency on the fly if the user is logged in as a member.

    Thanks

    Tony

    • If you consider custom programming, then yes, this is possible and there are hooks available:

      wcml_raw_price_amount
This filter is applied on the the custom fields of products and variations that are used for prices (when they are read from the db)
      _price
      _regular_price
      _sale_price
      _min_variation_price
      _min_variation_price_regular_price
      _mix_variation_price_sale_price
      _max_variation_price
      _max_variation_price_regular_price
      _max_variation_price_sale_price

This filter should be used for filtering product/variations prices in general.
Available on the front end and specific ajax requests

      Arguments: price, currency

      wcml_formatted_price
Converts a price into a given currency and applies the corresponding format.

  19. My previous question has been deleted for some reason? Which is odd as it is definitely a pre-sales enquiry

I want to build a website where logged in members see prices as virtual credits and everyone else sees £ sterling. I can create a custom currency for virtual credit and from what I can see use your plug-in to create custom prices for each “currency”.

What I would like to know is if there is a developer hook that will allow me to change the currency after log-in dependant on the users membership level

    Many thanks

    Tony
