Hi there, I have a website serving Australia and New Zealand. 99% of the content is the same. We mainly want to display different contact and address info. We would also like to automatically detect the browser language and send them to the correct page, and to display the correct SEO meta tags (canonical and hreflang). How can WPML help here? Will we need to translate ALL the content, or just the few pages that needs to be translated? Thanks
Hello David,
yes, you can translate only some of your pages in WPML and show the primary language for these without translations. Please have a look at this post to see more details. When it comes to detecting the language, there is an option in WPML settings that allows you to detect the language based on what the user has set in his/her browser.
Hello Yuri,
I am afraid we have stopped supporting non-profits for now. We continue to support the existing ones in our system but we cannot take new ones. You are welcome to buy WPML and try it for 30 days. If it does not suit your needs we will refund you https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/.
I would like to know if I can translate only one specific donation form created with the plugin Give (https://givewp.com) and still use the plugin shortcode to add it to a page that will not need to be translated. Thank you.
Please note that it makes sense to use WPML if you want to have your site’s content available in more than one language so I’m a little bit confused about what you say here ” and still use the plugin shortcode to add it to a page that will not need to be translated. “
Hello Carlos,
I am checking with the compatibility technical team and will let you know what they say. I will contact you via e-mail , when I have a response.
Hi guys
i’m going to purchase this plugin for my websites but to finish it (and for my financial department) i need your VAT number (for billing purposes)
is that possible?
We need to have content that is both translated as well as GEO targeted by region. I understand that you don’t support GEO targeting natively but is your redirection hookable so that we can insert our own logic? We specifically are interested in that first initial guess at the user’s language where we’d want to put in our own logic to send them to their first page. I’m thinking wpml_current_language might be it but can’t tell.
Also, does all content need to be entered into the base language first? If so, if a piece of content should only be available in a translated version, can you disable/unpublish/restrict the base language version?
At the moment, you can’t hook to any specific action to change the behaviour of the browser redirection.
Hooking to `wpml_current_language` may have undesiderable effects.
The functionality we provide uses a combination of PHP and JavaScript to handle the redirection.
If you can write code, I would suggest to disable the functionality and write your script for dealing with the browser redirection.
As adding hooks is something relatively easy, I’m personally checking if in the next version of WPML we can include a couple of new filters and actions to help customise the logic used for this feature.
As for your second question, the original content does not have to be in the site’s default language.
If the site has “French” as default language and “German” and “Spanish” as secondary languages, you can create new content in “German” or “Spanish” and content in “French” is not required.
The default language is only used as a base when a language is required, and none is specified.
Other than that, you can have, for instance, a post created in “Spanish” and leave it as is or translate it in any of the other languages.
Hello Anh,
What theme are you referring to? it should work well, if it was coded following WordPress standard. Here is a list of the themes we have tested https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/. In any case, you will be able to ask for help at our forum, if needed and we can also contact the auhtor. You are welcome to try WPML and see how it works for you, you have until 30 days to try it and ask for a refund https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/.
Hello, we run an english website on server A (hosted in the USA) and a Chinese website on server B (hosted in China) operating on a subdomain cn.domain.com . We do this to improve page load speed in China, due to the GreatFirewall. Both websites use wordpress, startIT theme, and wordfence. In general content will be updated on the english site and then translated on the chinese site at a future date. Does your software support this? Thank you!
WPML lets you serve the content of all languages from the same WordPress installation.
To handle your setup, you can create mirror sites (sites that are exact duplicates) – one in China and on in the USA. Then, set the DNS to point to each of them separately. This will be a setup very similar to what you have now, expect that:
1. You will only manage one site, which includes both languages
2. You will need to setup the automatic sync between the sites, so that they are always identical. A simple script can handle this.
BTW, we wanted to reach both Chinese and Western audience once. For that, we placed a server in HK and it worked well for both.
hi, would it be possible to hide certain english content in the two locations? i guess one location acts as master and the other as slave?
meaning: master has english (maybe with chinese hidden)
slave: has some english (or maybe it has, but it is all hidden) and chinese
note for hong kong servers, the performance for your clients in PRC is more or less the same as the usa based server. you need to have a server inside china if you want good performance for prc users…
Hello James,
WPML allows you to keep some pages/posts without translations, which mean that you can have both some pages in the second language without their equivalents in the primary language and vice versa. I’m not sure if this is what you are asking about.
Now you have to pay the plugin and pay every year for updates. With mine old company i had your plugin and then i pay once voor everything. How is this possible?
In this case, you will need to buy a new subscription so that you can register a new account, if you want to access downloads and support. We now offer yearly subscriptions with automatic renewals. You can see our pricing here https://wpml.org/purchase/
If I renew my account, can I register still two other websites and can you tell me if by default this renewal will be made automatically every year. I would like to keep it manually.
hello i have my wpml key and it was ruining on my wordpress website, after while a change it to shopify and im back at wordpress but im not able to activate my wpml plugin with my key
please help me !
We are planning on using your plugin to create a Japanese translation of our site. Question is can the Japanese version have alternate content and Japanese related content or must the content mirror the English version?
Hello John,
Thanks for your interest. You are welcome to edit the Japanese translation in any way you want. The plugin will add the translated page/post etc, but you can add any content inside (even leave it in English or chosse to leave it untranslated or hidden).
More info here https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/
Hello Andy, you don’t but if you cancel your subscription you lose access to future versions of WPML and our support help. But you will be able to use the plugins that you have already installed.
Hello,
WPML allows to use any language variant. Are you going to translate your site using our Advanced Translation Editor and machine translation? Or are you going to use one of our integrated professional services? A third option is entering your own translations.
Hello Iman,
I am afraid we have stopped supporting non-profits for now. We continue to support the existing ones in our system but we cannot take new ones. You are welcome to buy WPML and try it for 30 days. If it does not suit your needs we will refund you https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/.
thanks for info, then we need to look for other solutions with lower costs. we know WPML is great as we are using it on other projects so ability to get refund is not something we are interested in.
hello! is the lifetime plan still available? I’m very interested in purchasing but would much rather prefer a one off payment than a yearly renewal. thank you!
Thank you for your reply. So if I purchase for one year and do not renew, does it mean that without updating the plugin, I will face a compatibility or security problem in future when I update the rest of my plugins but not WPML?
I purchased WPML plugin on Aug. 3 and it is still “on hold”. I see that the funds were removed from my bank account, but I am still not able to download the plugin.
Hello Stephanie,
I see the transaction is still pending. How did you send us the money? Did you pay through our Purchase page normally?
Let me know?
Thanks,
Hello, could you please send us your bank statement that confirms it to this email account: hello@wpml.org. I will let Mercedes know to expect an email from you. Thank you.
Hi there. I would like to run my site on a network install of WordPress. eg: afriq-a.com/site1, afriq-a.com/site2 etc. Would the basic version allow this?
I have a basic site that I need to translate into 1 other language, the theme currently in use is Betheme which uses its own page builder (Muffin Builder) I was wondering if I would get away with only purchasing the $29 dollar version. Your $79 dollar version says that it has page builder support does this mean that I have no option but to purchase the more expensive one Its just there are quite a few features I do not need with the more expensive one.
i maybe want to sign up again, but i want to know , i am using actually polylang with hymn woo commerce can i change easily to wpml without making all from scratch ?
We’re trying to do something like adding a different version of English with the label “International…” (don’t want to re-purpose en_GB) and just having slight changes to that content.
We did this on a test site (from another Client) and added a New Language and it appears to add, but the new language doesn’t show up in the language selections (dropdowns, panel editing options, etc.)
The Client is trying to determine if they will use WPML for this or handle it some other way. If this is something simple we are missing and you can point us to a support thread, would be appreciated as we’re not finding something exactly relative.
Thus far, we’ve only worked with already pre-configured languages. We do have a staging site we can look at to quickly determine if this is going to work based on supporting info provided, etc.
When you add custom languages, they should appear in WPML’s drop-down language selector. The language selector only shows content that has translation. I’m not sure what made that language not appear in your test site, but it generally works. If it didn’t work for you, please create a support ticket and we’ll check what’s wrong.

Hello,
how can I help you? What was your question?
I did a quick search and found this support thread on our site:
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/workscout-theme-job-count-not-multinilingual/
I hope that it’s about the same Workscout. If so, there’s a compatibility problem, but our supporter found a patch for it for the theme.
If you buy WPML and you’re not happy with it (for whatever reason), you can get a refund up to 30 days from your order.

Hi there.
My client would like their website translated into Swahili – is this language available? If not, where can I find a list of available languages?
Thanks
Hello Mark,
WPML supports all languages. If Swahili is not on the list of default languages you can add it manually. More info here https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/
