Hi,
I’m considering buying your plugin as I’m currently building my company website and need to have it in at least 3 languages.
My question is, once I pay the purchase fee, do I have to pay the updates from the 2nd year? If so, does it mean that the plugin won’t work properly without the updates?
Yes. We charge 50% of the original cost to renew upgrades and support after one year.
Whatever you downloaded and installed will continue working. Of course, you should run up-to-date versions of WordPress, your theme and plugins, but that’s up to you.
Does this mean that you support compatibility whith futur wordpress updates for free? And only additionnal feature to WPML is include in the support and upgrade fee?
You will need a valid subscription to download newer versions. With your purchase, you get a subscription for a year. To renew this subscription, we will ask for 50% of the original purchase price next year.
Thank you very much for the quick response!
I’m also unsure if I buy whether to get the multilingual blog (it’s my company website but Im not a big company) or the multilingual cms.
Or can I get the blog version and use it on my website? and if need be upgrade to the other one if I see I need more capabilities?
I don’t really know what do you mean exactly with this items:
Translation management
Theme and plugins localization
CMS navigation
Sticky links
You should get the CMS version. The blog version doesn’t have the String Translation module, which is essential to translate many things in WooCommerce.
First, I’d like to say thank you for being so helpful through our buying process. I would like to purchase WPML and test on a hosted development server as a subdomain of our core website. This is a separate WP install, so it is not a mutlisite configuration. We needed a sandbox for theme development and new plugin testing for upper management review and approval. Since this is a subdomain, we are going to test the WPML plugin on our dev site using different languages in directories. Once we are done with testing we will install the plugin on our live website and use WPML with languages in different domains. Can we purchase and test the plugin with our purchase, or do we need to purchase 2 licenses? Do others test WPML this way before deploying to their live site?
You can use WPML on as many sites as you need. We don’t limit you to just one site. We also have a test site for wpml.org, where we always experiment with any change before going live, so I understand that you (and many others) need that.
I know that some people use Artister themes with WPML and are doing fine with that. We never did a full technical review of Artisteer and WPML. An an Artisteer client, would you like to check with them and see if they can spend a little time going over everything with us? Let me know if they are interested and we’ll take it from there.
From our side, we’re certainly happy to do this work together.
I want to create a personal blog, covering multiple topics (RC-plane and RC-helicopter building and flying, content here would be mostly in german), software development (articles and blog posts mainly in english, but also some in german), and family-related stuff (again, mostly german).
In addition to the blog posts, I’d like to have a hand full of pages with more or less static content, some in both english and german, some only in one language).
So in fact, the german and the english version of that site would differ in available static pages and visible blog posts in the corresponding language.
Would WPML be able to handle this?
If yes, would I require the CMS version of would the blog version be sufficient (again, its a personal thing, not for a business, so I don’t want to spent a lot of money for it).
Yes. WPML should handle this case just fine. You’ll probably need the CMS version, in order to translate general texts, widgets and other non-post texts. Make sure that the theme you’re using works well with multilingual sites.
There are a lot of other great themes that work with WPML, but these are ones that we’ve tested and where the theme authors are working with us towards compatibility.
hi there!
i am interested to buy. but i have some doubts. answer please.
1. will i have to manually translate every article using this wpml for all languages i selecte, or it will automatically translates when the user posted in one language. for example, if a user posted an article about webdesigning in english, will it appear automaticlly on other languages section?
2. list of languages supported? i want to get ‘ tamil language’translation.how to do that? thanks in advance.
WPML doesn’t do any sort of automated translation. It’s a tool that lets you translate yourself, or get translation from different translation services.
I need a clarification on who could use WPML for multiple sites.
If I am a freelance webmaster, can I get a license and use that to build different sites for different customers?
If I am a company, can I get a license and use that for different sites for different customers, even if I let different webmasters work on those sites? If a webmaster already has a license, do I need to acquire another one to let him/her build a website for my customers?
How does WPML work with title and description meta tags. Can these be translated and would google index each of the translated meta tags or would it just index the english version of the meta tags that is the default language the site has been written in?
WPML creates a different post for each language. So, each language will naturally get its own custom fields. These include the SEO attributes from Yoast SEO. You’ll enter different SEO attributes per language, including the slug.
I heard many things about this plugin. Before I purchase for client’s site I was wondering on specific theme translations that are hard coded into functions/php pages.
The theme I am working on is Averis.
I already have the content translated into French and the site will be primarily delivered in English.
Will this work out of the box on this theme and if not what would be required?
Thanks Amir.
I will certainly send them here. In case they do not follow up with us what can we do as a backup plan? I would really like to use this plugin if possible.
We really need the cooperation of the other side. Even if it’s a simple fix, we can’t take their code and hack away. This will cause all sorts of problems. For starters, when there’s an update on their side, someone will have to apply again our fixes. This doesn’t work.
I wrote to the site author and this was his reponse:
Have you already tried to use this plugin?
Our theme is buid to suit the wordpress codex in all matters. So the official guide to translate a page should work without problems. (http://codex.wordpress.org/Translating_WordPress)
Currently my site is on a staging server. I can theoretically put a second install on a subdomain and be willing to give it a try? I will work with you as you see fit to test this out.
Hi, I need to leave my basic question here as I could not find an explanation OR link to create an account with WPML, and that is my problem as explained below.
I have just bought WPML, and I need that account to download WPML (as explained in the checkout page). How / where can i create an account to download the plugin? I also expected i would receive an email with a link to download it but no email came in.
I also wanted asking the same question in the forum but again, it demands we login into our account to do so, i.e. basically running in circles.
Immediately after your purchase completes, you should have received 2 emails. One from PayPal, with the payment confirmation and another from us, with the account details.
If you don’t see these emails, have a look in your SPAM folder. Still not there? Use our contact page, give us your full name and the email that you used and we’ll look it up for you. http://wpml.org/home/contact-us/
My site is already bilingual http://www.ericlemieux.com/ but the WP plus in don’t have the split keywords/description. What happens when I install the WPML plugin??
I have read through your FAQs, documentation and forum (to some extent). Plugin looks interesting, but I have a few questions:
1) Does WPML have any functionality for IP checking location and switching to that area language? In other words, If I translate a site in 3 languages, how can I tie in IP checking to serve up a particular language? Site will reside on one server, but domain extensions should be applied, so .de is served, or .au or .com. If WPML has no way of tying in location with appropriate language, is there another IP detect plugin you would recommend that can work with WPML on this?
2) We have some pages in which the text will remain the same across two language (say U.S. english vs. Queen’s english) but some of the pages will be different to allow for nuances in English. How is this handled in WPML? Related: Can we include pages only in one specific non-default language and not another on the site?
1. WPML checks for browser language using the language headers. This is often more reliable than IP checking, as it checks the actual language of the browser, no matter where the visitor is coming from. In our own system, we check for IP addresses, to know where people are coming from, and we see low correlation between country and language. I guess that different people live in different places, regardless of their language preference.
2. WPML can handle a mix of translated and untranslated content fine. For that, you should use WPML’s ‘content duplication’. This will let you synchronize duplicate content in different languages. The end result is that visitors see the same content in different languages. However, the WordPress locale and navigation will still be in the right language.
I have two domains, example.com and example.nl
Of course I could build two independent sites for these domains, but I would like that, when a user addresses the .com site he will get the English version of the site, and when addressing the .nl site, the Dutch version.
I am sure I have to configure something with regard to virtual sites in the apache.conf.
My question is if WPML supports this concept.
I’ve been doing some research on multi-lingual wp sites, and some seem to be saying you need to have the wordpress Multi-Sites network feature set up. See here:
It’s not needed. You just need to install WPML on a single WordPress install and add languages. You can put languages in the same domains in ‘virtual directories’ or in different domains or subdomains. WPML will handle all that for you, from a single WordPress install.
I am a Freelance Web Developer and im currently developing a wordpress theme which im considering uploading to Envato (ThemeForest). I was thinking to include a wpml plugin in the theme. Is it possible to resell the plugin in this way and if yes are there any conditions to do that?
That’s not the right thing to do. You shouldn’t include plugins with your theme, but make the theme compatible with these plugins. Especially WPML, which is a paid plugin.
The theme should run properly on single language sites (without WPML) and correctly with WPML. Your clients who want to run multilingual sites will purchase both your theme and WPML. You’re welcome to use an affiliate link from within the theme and earn 30% commission when your future clients purchase WPML.

Is there anything we should point our developer for hire to on your site to guide us/them along for install and configuration?
We haven’t tested that theme with WPML. If you bought it from ElegantThemes, can you check with them if they can test it together with us? We’ll be happy to do this work if they can assist about things that are specific to their theme.
Hi.
I was wondering if WPML has the possibility to automatically change language based on the browser-language of a visitor?
So that if a visitor has a browser-language that I’ve made translations for, they automatically get redirected to the corresponding post/page/whatever?

WPML should work fine with themes from ElegantThemes. We need their cooperation for complete testing and to create configuration files, which will make it easier to run multilingual sites with their themes.

Yes. You can run multilingual sites and put different languages in different domains. This FAQ explains the recommended Apache and DNS setup:

Hi guys,
I’ve been doing some research on multi-lingual wp sites, and some seem to be saying you need to have the wordpress Multi-Sites network feature set up. See here:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/setting-up-a-dual-language-website?replies=27
Is this necessary for use with WPML? It will be a dual language site, Russian & English.
Thanks guys,
Tim
It’s not needed. You just need to install WPML on a single WordPress install and add languages. You can put languages in the same domains in ‘virtual directories’ or in different domains or subdomains. WPML will handle all that for you, from a single WordPress install.

Hi.
I was wondering if WPML has the possibility to automatically change language based on the browser-language of a visitor?
So that if a visitor has a browser-language that I’ve made translations for, they automatically get redirected to the corresponding post/page/whatever?
Yes. WPML can detect the browser’s language and redirect visitors their preferred language. We use the browser’s language headers for that.
Hello,
I am currently using qtranslate and am thinking about changing to wpml. I need the 2 languages visible (see site) in my header and not as a drop down menu. Can your plugin be modified this way?

You can easily create your own custom language switchers. Have a look here for how to do that:
http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/custom-language-switcher/
Thanks!
I have version 3.4.1 of WordPress using Q translate.
Is there a way to migrate to WPML??
The plug in here http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/qtranslate-to-wpml-export/ is said to be compatible up to wordpress 3.3.2

WPML plays especially nice with SEO plugins. Since it creates different categories and posts for different languages, they will have their own SEO attributes.

Yes. This is the intended use for WPML. You can install it on different client sites and they don’t need to pay anything to us. Of course, we ask that you install WPML only on your client sites and not pass it along. The auto-upgrade mechanism will require your WPML.org account login.
Dear reader,
I work with wp-robot news aggregator plugin. The translation from English to Dutch is extremely bad, it uses an internal translator function in combiantion with google translation.

I don’t know who translated the WP Robot plugin. If it uses the standard WordPress translation files (which it should) you will be able to edit the translations using WPML’s String Translation module.
WPML doesn’t do any sort of automated translation. It lets you translate yourself. You can also use professional translation, if you wish to.
