1. With your single account for WPML, all your clients can upgrade the plugin on their sites (or you do it for them). If your account expires and you don’t renew, upgrades will not be available.
2. You can upgrade WPML from within the WordPress admin from the Plugins screen.
I’m considering to buy WPML. I’ve used qtranslate so far but I am not satisfied with it. The biggest problem is that I can’t introduce multi language text to meta fields. For example I am customising a theme for a client. The homepage slider images need title atributes filled out to be shown as captions. In qtranslate i would use quicktags to insert multilingual content if it would work for custom or meta fields. Is this working in WPML? Can I enter more languages in every meta field? If yes I hope it’s easier than it would be with qtranslate bacause it’s quite frustrating to always mess with quicktags.
WPML will let you translate meta fields smoothly and naturally. Since WPML keeps different languages in different posts, they all get their unique postmeta fields. You can write completely different postmeta in each language or tell WPML to synchronize specific ones (like product weigth, etc.).
I would like to make sure if I understand it correctly:
Our Situation:
We have to blogs one with all the commercial information and one supportblog. We would like to make both blogs available in NL and UK by using your software. Our visitors can select language by clicking on a flag. The posts will be translated by our own team. Our website is hosted by a third company who also is responsable for the multilingual content. So we will use your software solely for our Blogs hosted by wordpress.
Question:
– Understanding the functionalities we need the Multilingual CMS?
– We need to purchase one license per blog
– The first year will be 79Dollar and afther that for the years to follow we can choose
* or 40dollar a year and stay updated and have the rigt of support
* or pay nothing and use the software as is and no support.
– The software is only tested with the theme’s as published on your site.
You need to buy WPML just once and you can use it for as many sites as you need. From what you’re describing, the Multilingual CMS is for you. It will include the translation management tools needed for working with teams of translators.
Like you said, if you don’t renew your account, you can keep using what you have, without upgrades or support. That’s up to you. What you downloaded before will not stop working.
WPML works with thousands of themes. We cannot test with all, so we publish a list of themes that we tested ourselves. Many other themes work just fine with WPML.
I am very interested in this plugin and hope it becomes a standard part of my arsenal, Is it compatable with SEO Ultimate, I use a range of plugins and multi-site so I hope it works. Also is there any editing available of how the languages are shown on the sites to click?
We haven’t tested WPML with SEO Ultimate. We know that it’s working smoothly with Yoast’s WP SEO because we use it. WPML works fine in multisite environment.
We had some interaction with the theme authors, but I think that eventually they decided that they cannot spend the time making things translatable in WPZOOM themes. I’m checking for more information and will post and update here.
I have a directory project (with vantage theme from appthemes) that will be in english, french and spanish and i’d like to know if with your plugin:
1. the menus, navigation etc. would be translated ?
2. Does the plugin work upon visitors language detection or is there little flags they click on so they get the page in their language?
3. How does it work for seo, seo and multilingual site is quite tricky. Will i get better seo for the original language of the website or is it as good as having as many domain as we have languages? Can i create metas in different languages that will be automtically be assigned to the right language?
4. Can The content of page and articles be translated? for example, creating my directory, if the listing is originally in french, could i make it appears translated (by myself with the same look etc.) in other languages or does it work just for menus etc.?
5. Does it work with every themes?
6. WordPress seo by yoast or all in one seo pack, which one works better with your plugin?
WPML and all themes from AppThemes have several critical compatibility issues. The AppThemes developers and our team will be working on a glue plugin, that will make everything work correctly. I’m not sure how long this will take as it’s not all in our hands. For now, I don’t think that WPML will function correctly on your site.
AppThemes themes are pretty complex, so they require this additional level of engineering. Most other themes, which just display content, work fine with WPML. With their cooperation, we’ll get WPML and all AppThemes running compatible too.
If the theme that you’re interested in is not listed there, it means that we haven’t tested it. The theme may very well work with WPML, but we don’t know about it.
I’m interested in this plug-in for a client who requires a multi-lingual option for their new website. They will be manually translating the site themselves, so am I correct in saying that Blog version of the plugin would be fine for them?
If that is the case and they wish to upgrade to the full CMS version, would I need to purchase a new licence on their behalf or do you offer an upgrade option at a reduced rate?
There are more differences between the Blog and CMS versions than the Translation Management module. The Blog version doesn’t include WPML’s String Translation, which is typically needed to translate texts that are not part of any post. The tagline and widgets are good examples.
If you buy the Blog version, you’ll be able to upgrade later to the full CMS version and pay only the difference.
Hi,
We are developing a law firm website in WordPress. We are considering using the WPML plugin for multi-language support. We are currently working with 2 WordPress websites. One in US english & the other, separate site in Japanese. We want to combine them into one site using the WPML plugin. All Japanese content has been translated by our own in-house translator & we want to keep that process in place. Is WPML the right tool? What will the process be in migrating content & setting it up?
Please advise.
Thanks
Susan
From what you’re describing, WPML is certainly the right tool. You will be able to install it on one of the sites, add both languages to that site and then copy the translations into it. From that point, you’ll be running one website for both English and Japanese. Unless you have a very large number of pages, it would be easiest to migrate them manually. Otherwise, you can use the WordPress XML export and import, but you’ll need to match between translations manually.
I am using the avada theme for a site, I would like to add extra 2 languages, but would translate all the pages by myself.
Not all languages shall have the same (amount) of pages, I also want to use different landing pages per language (a campaign on one language a different campaign in another language).
Question:
is WPML the right plugin for me and which one should I buy.
I read there are problems with avada any known issues?
Hey guys !
I have a small question.. If I buy the multilingual blog version of WPML plugin would I be able to upgrade to the multilingual CMS version later ?
Does this offer a UK English translation? Most of my questions pertain to SEO. We currently have a .co.uk with essentially the same content as the US site. I’d like to use this plugin to set my client up for future growth as they will be expanding internationally. From a management perspective it seems easer to just use this plugin and administer the subdirectory creation. Then I can geo-target the subdirectories therefor reducing the need for a .co.uk.
And since, it looks like this offers different menus for different languages which is perfect for the subtle differences in for the current US & UK sites! But, I also need to see if there is a way to set up different home pages for different languages. Do you know how this can be done? Custom fields?
You can use different language variants in WPML and have .com and .co.uk domains with different contents using WPML. Both will run from the same database, can have shared content and enjoy easy management.
I’m still not getting a response on “And can I offer different home pages and menus for different languages”. Can I assume that it’s because this is not possible? Thank you for your help!
I initially asked a question on wp-types.com about using multiple currencies, and since then I have been testing out the demo site for e-commerce sites with WPML. I think I may have mis-specified my question though. I want to make a site that shows products from different countries (so the original prices are in different currencies, all in English-speaking countries) and then display all prices in one currency that a user can select when they are using the site. For example, I want to add a product in GBP, a product in USD and a product in ZAR, and then display all three units in ZAR by default, with the option to show all products in GBP or USD.
From reading the other support topics, it looks like I can make a “translation” duplicated for UK-English/US-English, etc. and then link currencies to each of those “languages”, but is it possible to actually add products in different currencies and then display in one currency?
Now I understand better. WooCommerces prefers to always have the items in the default language. We’ve built it this way for stock management and other necessary features for physical products. Then, you can add translations to other languages.
So, you might be able to add these languages, add their translations with different values per currency and then display any way you like.
I’m still not 100% clear about your display logic, but there has to be a solution for it. If you buy WPML, I recommend to start a forum thread about it. Indicate that it’s for ‘David’, who is our lead developer for e-commerce integration. Once we see exactly what you’re building, it would be easier to work with you and get it like you want. WPML and Views both have elaborate filters that you can use, so if it’s not clear from the GUI, the developers can point you to other solutions.
Hello there;
I wonder: Is it possible to maintain two separate blogs (under one, self-hosted WordPress-Installation running in multi-site mode, using the same WPML-installation)? I’m thinking one german-only, one english-only version blog (that way subscribers wouldn’t have to deal with stuff not in their language); if WPML would allow to push translations back and forth between the two.
Thank you for your help! 🙂
WPML works a little differently than this. It will allow you to run one WordPress installation with several languages. You can map each language to its own domain and get what you’re describing from one WordPress DB. Each of these sites can have completely different content or translations of one another.
Hello Amir, and thanks for your reply. 🙂 – It kinda does, especially after I found and read your FAQ/post about setting up various domains with WPML. I guess I’ll just have to get myself a copy and play around with it some 🙂
Hi,
I’ve posted this message before, but can’t find it anywhere… so here’s another shot.
I’m considering suggesting WPML to a friend for her multilingual site, but am left with a few questions after reading your documentation.
– We’ve altered the Sampression theme quite heavily, using category slugs and custom javascript for navigation purposes. Will this be a problem, or is there a way to work with that?
– We’re using the “PG Context Sensitive Sidebar” for to display information in the sidebar that is post specific. Can the content in this sidebar block be translated as well?
I’m not familiar with that theme. If you already altered it, I’m sure that you feel convenient with its PHP, so making any changes for multilingual support should be easy for you. Here is a link to a guide that explains how to build multilingual-ready themes: http://wpml.org/documentation/support/creating-multilingual-wordpress-themes/
If you need any help, our support folks will be glad to assist.
The PG Content plugin may display content in different languages if it’s using the WordPress API in a clean way. WPML hooks to the WordPress API calls and changes them so that plugins return only content in the current language. I’m not sure how the plugin works, but if it uses the standard WordPress content types and queries, it will not correctly with WPML.
In any case, if you have some flexibility and can either either the code or get the plugin developer to make small edits, I’m sure that we can make it fully multilingual-ready for you.
You can continue using the WPML version that you downloaded before. They will not stop working by themselves. In order to keep getting our support and upgrade, you need to have a valid account. We offer renewals for 50% of the cost while your account is valid. We display a message about this in the account home, send a reminder email 30 days before it expires and another last reminder 3 days before expiration. If your account has already expired, you will need to buy again to continue getting this support.
I have a client interested in changing their website to multilingual. I’ve got 2 questions about your plug in
1. How does it work with attachments? They have roughly 200 PDFs on their website.
2. Changes in content. If they update the english portion of their website, is there a way the other languages can be flagged to know what’s been changed so the translations can be updated as well?
1. WPML has complete support for attachments in different languages. The ‘Media Translation’ addon, which is part of the Multilingual CMS package, will let you reuse the same attached files for posts in different languages. It will duplicate the DB entries for the attachments, all pointing to the same files on the server. This way, attachments will display in each language, with different description per language.
2. WPML includes complete translation management, also part of the Multilingual CMS package. It tracks what’s changed in the original content and makes it very easy for you to update the relevant translations. WPML also highlights changes in the original when you translate.
Yes, the visitor will go to the French version of the site, where everything is in French. This includes navigation, content, links and everything that WordPress includes.
I’m thinking of setting up a site that will have content added in both Spanish and English (2 different contributors neither speaks both languagrs). How easy is it to do this?
Can posts be created in the author’s native language and then translated to the other language or does a post need to always be set up in one base language eg English and then it is translated to any other language.
WPML is intended exactly for your needs. Each user will be able to log in to WordPress, see the entire WordPress admin in his language and create his content. That content may be linked as translation, or completely independent. If you are translating, the easiest way is to use WPML’s Translation Management module. If this is independent content, it can be written by creating that content separately in each language.
You can translate content between different languages. The English-speaking author can create original content and then be translated to Spanish and vice versa too. There is no importance for the order or writing content.
I would recommend choosing WooCommerce plugin. It works smoothly with WPML and we are in close contact with WooCommerce developers to ensure current and future compatibility. WPEC is a fine e-commerce plugin, but doesn’t feature complete compatibility with WPML. FYI, we don’t delete comments. Your comment was hidden until I moderated it and replied.
Thanks for your reply , but if you can help me on this already my client use WPEC ,
Can WPML handle products & categories & variations & normal pages/posts ?
because that’s almost what we need.
hi there – i use your product on http://www.rugby.fo – English and Finnish. Fantastic. Love it. I now want to do the same for another site, exact same functionality but English and Arabic.
You can use the same WPML account to download and install on your other websites. WPML includes complete support for Arabic, so it should all be straight forward.
Hi, I am considering using WPML for the websites I build but have some additional questions.
1. What about my clients when its time for renewal, will they still be covered by my license (if I upgrade) or be required to “buy” their own license?
2. How is the upgrade process working for WPML? Simple process?
3. Will I have problem replacing qTranslated content with WPML?
Looking forward to your reply (please notify by email)
Cheers, Nick
1. With your single account for WPML, all your clients can upgrade the plugin on their sites (or you do it for them). If your account expires and you don’t renew, upgrades will not be available.
2. You can upgrade WPML from within the WordPress admin from the Plugins screen.
3. We’ve written a plugin that will help you with this migration:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/qtranslate-to-wpml-export/
I hope this helps.
Excellent, you will soon see my name in your sales logs 🙂

Thank you. This is really annoying, I don’t understand how WPZOOM can’t think about bilinguism.

Hello, I subscribed to your service but did not receive any information yet.
I’m not sure why the new-account email didn’t make it to your inbox. Maybe it’s hiding in your SPAM box. I’ve resent it now from my personal email.
Hi,
If I buy the Multilingual CMS, can this be used for themes on themeforest etc? And is there anyway to try out the plugin first?
WPML works with many themes, including those from ThemeForest. We list the themes that we have tested ourselves here:
http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/
If the theme that you’re interested in is not listed there, it means that we haven’t tested it. The theme may very well work with WPML, but we don’t know about it.
I suggest that you ask the theme author to apply in our Go Global program (it’s open only for theme authors):
http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
Unfortunately, we don’t have a trial version. However, if you buy WPML and are not completely satisfied with it, we can always refund your order.
I forgot one question:
Is there a way to set that when visitor browser is in X language, the language of the website show directly the language of the browser?
Yes. WPML has a browser language detection feature, which will let you automatically redirect visitors to the language set by their browser.
HI!
Im currently building website for client and i need a multilingual solution.
Is WPMLadmin panel currently in slovak or czech and hungarian language?
Thanks

WPML includes all these languages pre-configured, but WPML interface is not translated to these languages.

Hello sales,

WPML will let you create different content in different languages. You can set that content as translation, or as completely independent content. I’ve checked in our wp-compatibility.com site and I see that several people have been reporting compatibility between WPML and Avada:
http://wp-compatibility.com/compatibility-result/?s1=WPML+Multilingual+CMS&s1_type_id=0&s2=Avada&s2_type_id=2
You should probably get the Multilingual CMS version.
Hey guys !

Yes, you will be able to upgrade to the full CMS version and pay only the difference.
Dear Sirs,
Is wpml support Arabic language? and how can i make awebsite with 2 languages English and Arabic (rtl) ?

Yes, it does, Ahmed.
About how you can create a multilingual website: you can start from here http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/

You can use different language variants in WPML and have .com and .co.uk domains with different contents using WPML. Both will run from the same database, can have shared content and enjoy easy management.
To add another English instance, go to WPML->Languages->Edit languages. To place different languages in different domains, follow this FAQ:
http://wpml.org/faq/server-setting-for-languages-in-different-domains/
Is this a one time fee or annual? And can I offer different home pages and menus for different languages?
When you buy WPML, you get a year of upgrades and support. To renew, we ask for 50% of the original cost in following years.

I think this may be the right plugin for a client’s site but need to confirm the following:
So when I visitor to the site for example, clicks on French. Will every following link they click on be the French version?
Yes, the visitor will go to the French version of the site, where everything is in French. This includes navigation, content, links and everything that WordPress includes.
Hi,
I’m thinking of setting up a site that will have content added in both Spanish and English (2 different contributors neither speaks both languagrs).
Thanks for quick reply I’m just hoping it will be compatible with my theme (once I finish a few customizations)

Dears,
I need to implement multilingual on my e-commerce and its run with the following specs :
WordPress 3.5.1
Wp e-commerce 3.8.9.5
WPML works perfectly on the above specs? also could please provide me what the required plugins to install .
Regards,
I would recommend choosing WooCommerce plugin.
Hello Amir,
Thanks for your reply , but if you can help me on this already my client use WPEC ,
Can WPML handle products & categories & variations & normal pages/posts ?
because that’s almost what we need.
I am so sorry for miss understanding.
Regards,
hi there – i use your product on http://www.rugby.fo – English and Finnish. Fantastic. Love it. I now want to do the same for another site, exact same functionality but English and Arabic.
Can you do it?
Thanks, – Max.
You can use the same WPML account to download and install on your other websites. WPML includes complete support for Arabic, so it should all be straight forward.
