Hi, I have recently purchased the multilingual blog version to translate a simple site for a bed and breakfast. I am quite happy with the functionality but am I correct that I need the cms version if I also want to translate some text widgets that I have in the footer of the pages?
That would be quite an investment for that functionality only. Is there any way around this?
At the moment, the only ‘workaround’ is to do a lot of programming on the theme and use conditional code to display text in different languages. I wouldn’t do that on my site.
hi.
i’m interesting on upgrading to the “Multilingual CMS”. i’ve purchased Multilingual Blog before 13 days and i’m quite happy with it, but it doesn’t complete what i want.
so specific with my need what i use it mantra theme (http://www.cryoutcreations.eu/mantra) and i’m satisfied with i want to work with but it has a presentation page, that it has a custom page to create it so i cannot use just the page translation that Multilingual Blog has to do it. i’ve already asked there also (http://www.cryoutcreations.eu/forums/t/adding-a-post-or-page-to-presentation-instead-of-translation) but they told me that it can’t work as i want to like the way it is now.
So my Question is will i be able with Multilingual CMS do what i want without problem? or even that won’t be enough and i will have to look for other solution (changing the way i use the presentation…change theme..or whatever…)…??? thanks in advance for you help and answer. waiting for it to proceed to the upgrade if it is working with what i want.
I really don’t know. From the reply of the theme author, it’s not completely clear how the content is saved and if WPML will be able to translate it.
If you are staying with this theme, I suggest that you get the theme author to work with us. Our theme compatibility team can help the author make all this translatable and compatible with WPML. The theme author is invited to our Go Global program: http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
If you upgrade WPML, you will get the String Translation module, which is needed to translate many things in most sites. I’m not sure if it will be able to handle this specific issue. In any case, you can use it on any other theme that you choose. Eventually, if you see that you upgraded and it doesn’t help you, you can always get a refund for the upgrade.
hi again, thanks for your answer,
will it take too much time from you to test the theme specifically on the presentation area and see if it is translatable or not? so i can avoid all the proceedure i won’t be need to do if it doesn’t work?
what i want to know is if the field “extra text” in the presentation area can be translated or not.
thanks in advanced.
Our website has custom information per COUNTRY. And each country can have one or two languages.
Example :
1. US_en “Contact Us” Page -> will have our office address located in US (in English)
2. US_es “Contact Us” Page -> will have our office address located in US (in Spanish)
3. CA_en “Contact Us” Page -> will have our office address located in Canada (in English)
4. CA_fr “Contact Us” Page -> will have our office address located in Canada (in French)
Is your plugin able to do that?
Please advise asap. I’m interested in asking for your assistance, too, in configuring our system to do this. Please let me know asap.
You can set up custom languages with WPML and have completely different content per each of these languages. Do you really need to have completely different content in each country variant, or just a different address page?
If you have different content for different language variants, this solution will be fine for you. You will practically have a different language for each country and manage its content. When needed, you can have the same content. When needed, it will be different content.
As the content is different, you can set different authors.
Yes, WPML works fine with both single-site and multi-site WordPress installs.
Yes. You can use different images/videos per language, or reuse the same ones for all languages. When you create content in different language, you can upload different images and videos. If you want to conveniently reuse the media in different languages (possibly, with different description texts), you can use the WPML Media Translation plugin.
The Pagely plugin appears to be un-updated for over 2 years. I don’t know how well it works with anything. It might work with WPML, but given the fact that it wasn’t updated for a long time, I would expect problems.
The Multiple Content Blocks plugin looks a lot more lively. We haven’t tested it with WPML, but from the description it looks like the two plugins should work well together. WPML uses different posts for different languages. I guess that the multiple content blocks plugin uses custom fields for these blocks, so everything should work fine with WPML.
BTW, if you are looking for a way to manage content and layouts in WordPress, you can check out our Toolset plugins: https://toolset.com
Of course, our plugins work fine together.
Types plugin is free and will also let you add editing areas to WordPress content. Views plugin lets you display custom content without coding.
WPML comes build in with Dutch. If you’re not seeing it, something is wrong with the installation. Remove WPML and activate it again. Make sure that WordPress has enough privileges to create tables in your database.
Dear wpml Team, we are an npo in registration i germany .On our interactive web platform http://www.alternations.at, we present sustainability projects from the fields of politics, food, education, technology, transportation or housing. Additionally, participants have the opportunity for a knowledge exchange with anyone interested.
Our society is subject to constant changes, challenged by economic crises, political changes or natural conditions. There are numerous initiatives and projects worldwide, which display concepts developed by people to deal sustainably with these challenges.
alterNation functions as an open space for these projects and organizations to present themselves. At the same time it serves as database for social concepts which can be adapted to other fields. As we´re starting to grow and are mediapartners of the http://experimentdays.de/ 2013 we would love to make our site multilanguage so it would be wonderful if you could support us with your plug in unfortunatly we dont have any fundings yet and pay everything ourselves so it would really be a great support thanks corinna
My girlfriend and I are opening an online shop that will be both in German and English. We are going to go for Woocommerce Multilingual but before buying the product I would like to ask two questions:
1. If we have site.de and site.com… with woocommerce multilingual… will both sites have the same backend? How should we do it to have same backend in both?
2. How much is it a woocommerce multilingual license?
3. What would the best setting thinking of SEO for us considering that besides products we also have blog posts to be translated.
These two domains will actually map to the same WordPress site, so the same backend. WPML lets you place different languages in different domains.
If you buy WPML, you also get WooCommerce Multilingual. You will need the full Multilingual CMS package, which costs $79. This allows you to build unlimited sites.
Honestly, the URL configuration matters very little for SEO. As long as you write good content and use clear and descriptive titles, headings and content, Google will find you and index your site just fine. We use the WordPress SEO plugin, to manage this information. A breadcrumbs trail (part of the plugin) is also very helpful in explaining Google your site’s structure.
Hello, Amir
My blog (http://www.usualhouse.com) has default permalink structure, and I dont want to change it, because many external links will lose their relevance…
Can WPML works with default permalink structure if I’ll use different domains (.fr, .es, .pl, etc.) for different languages? Or maybe there are some other solutions to resolve my problem?
Thanx
Sure. You can keep using the exact URL structure that you have now with languages in different domains. Then, you will have a different domain per language and all languages will use the same permalink structure.
Thanks for the quick reply, Amir.
Now it is clear.
As I understand from the manual I can not use languages in different directories (usualhouse.com/en , usualhouse.com/de . etc.) with default permalinks structure? Or am I wrong?
It is important for me because I’m trying to understand how I should implement a multilingual website on your plugin before I’ll buy it.
Thanx
You can use languages in directories if WordPress is installed in the root folder. The limitation is, if WordPress is installed in a directory (like myself.com/wp/) AND you are using the default permalink, you cannot use languages in directories.
So, usualhouse.com/ and usualhouse.com/de/ will work fine with the default permalink structure. Just not usualhouse.com/wp/de/
Sounds great.
And the last question… What about different ads code on different languages in sidebar, top of the page and in the article page? Is it possible?
Thanx
You can do this using WPML’s String Translation. Create a string with the color that you want to translate. Then, translate it in the String Translation screen and it will output differently per language.
You’ll need to slightly edit your theme to push that string into the sidebar’s code.
I’m sorry, but we haven’t seen WPML in action with any of these themes. Looks like they are all coming from the same author, so the best is for us to work with him and check compatibility together. We work with every theme author who wants to work with us. Would you like to refer the author of your theme to our Go Global program? http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
I am about to purchase WPML for my new website design that is based on the WordPress theme Attitude by ThemeHorse. I wasn’t able to find the theme in your theme compatibility overview and was wondering if WPML is working with Attitude all.
Hi. Just wondering how I could extend my subscription for 50% of the original price as mentioned on this page: http://wpml.org/purchase/
I have already paid the full price twice (June 2011 and August 29, 2012) which means that my subscription for last year expired just five days ago.
Like last time I did not get any notification before it expired, even though I have checked the option “I would like to continue receiving e-mail updates and special offers!” in my account settings.
That’s strange. We send out notification emails 30 days before accounts expire and again 3 days before. We also display a big notification message on the account page, after you login.
Our system blocks renewals after accounts expire. However, I have good news for you. We are adding a ‘lifetime’ option to WPML. This will allow you to pay once and get upgrades for life, without having to ever pay any extra. The price of the lifetime account will be $195. As you have already bought the $79 version from us, your upgrade to lifetime will cost you $116 (the difference). This will be available in a few days.
Well, I really did not receive theses mails. And to be honest: I only access my account page once or twice a year – only when I need to lookup my subscription key.
Your offer sounds really great. I am using WPML a lot and also plan to do so in the future. Please let me know when this option is available.
Hi may I know if I wana have an option for my customers to choose what currency they wanna pay for, do I go for the 29/79 plan? And is this easy to install cause I’m not very familiar with codes and would like to save the money instead of hiring someone else to do it for me. Thanks
Sorry, but WPML will not run correctly with WordPress 2.9.x. It depends on several WordPress functions that are only available in WordPress 3.3 and above.
and would it be possible to use the blog version to multilingualize only the blog while using woocommerce only with the original language? or won’t it work at all in that case?
background for this question: if possible i would then buy the blog version now, use it to add a second language for my blog & go on with the shop only in one language & would probably upgrade to cms version later.
thanks … and one more question: i am using day & name permalinks and i have been writing my blog for years now … will the permalinks stay the same for my original language or will the urls change when implementing wpml i. e. all old links would be broken?
Also in the event I purchase WPML – I understand then Your offer is:”Choose which version of WPML is right for you. You get unlimited sites, full support” this I understand as – I can have more than one WP account with both formulars ? thankyou in advance.
Sorry, but we don’t have experience with this theme. We are very happy to work with theme authors and check compatibility together. Would you like to suggest to the theme author to join our Go Global program? http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
When you buy WPML, you can choose between the basic Blog version, with core functionality, or CMS version with full functionality. You can also upgrade from Blog to CMS and pay only the difference.
My theme use a slider Plugin (Royal Slider) on the homepage and some images of this slider contain text in pixel…
I would like to know if it’s possible to display an homepage with french text image for french people and another homepage with english text image for english people with bowser language detection?
What some people are doing with Royal Slider and WPML is to create different slides and insert them into content per language.
If you are using a shortcode to insert sliders, just insert a shortcode for the slider in the correct language. If the slider is hard-coded into your theme, you can check the language in PHP and load the correct slider for that language.
Does WPML require multisite support?
(I’ve read that it does support multisite, but I have some sites where I want to use it without enabling multisite.)
Is it possible (without multisite enabled!) to have a link structure like:
evidenti.it (for italian site)
evidenti.it/en (for english site)
evidenti.it/de (for german site)
… and so on… ?
(or en.evidenti.it, de.evidenti.it, … ?)
Is there also an automatic site redirection feature in your plugin that could work in this case?
You don’t need to use Multisite for WPML. WPML adds its language information to sites with a single WordPress install. It will create new tables for language information and allow you to add multiple languages to the same site.
WPML can run on multisite networks. Each child site in the network is considered a single site and can have different, independent languages with WPML.
The URLs configuration that you listed is exactly what you will get from WPML. No need for multisite installation.
You can choose to have either languages in ‘folders’ or in different domains.
What site redirection feature are you referring to? If you are looking to redirect visitors to their language, based on browser language setting, WPML does that.
WPML lets you translate user names and fields. You can choose which user types to translate and which are left untranslated.
Go to WPML->String Translation and scroll to the bottom, where it says ‘More options’.
There, you will find:
Translating users of types:
Select the user kinds and their attributes will appear in the String Translation table.
Please note that it’s pretty difficult to give good technical support here, in the pre sales questions. If you need more help, please open a thread in our technical support.
WPML lets you implement the URL structure that you prefer. You can choose between language in domains or in virtual folders.
For you, the main difference between the Blog and CMS version would be the String Translation, which is only available in the full CMS version. The String Translation module lets you translate texts that don’t belong to any post. For example, the tagline, widget titles, text widgets, etc.
If you don’t have any of these, the Blog version will be fine for you. You can always buy the Blog version and later upgrade to the full CMS version. In that case, you will need to pay the difference.
I am looking to convert my site into multi language and multi currency, Multi language part is fine with me but what I need is information regarding multi currency, in my country paypal is not allowed, so I have a payment gateway that works with my country currency, and I want to use paypal for rest of the world with Dollar as currency,
If it possible that when a visitor select a currency, only a particular payment gateway will be available and when he select a different currency then another payment gateway wil be available. no matter what is the language of the site.
We know that this is very important functionality, but it’s still not implemented in our WooCommerce Multilingual plugin. We are planning to work on this next.
Today, the plugin lets you specify different pricing for different languages, but not choose different payment gateways. Many people (including us) need that and we plan to work on this next, right after the upcoming version of WooCommerce Multilingual.
I would like to upgrade from wpml-blog to wpml-cms, but this doesn’t seem to be possible. When I login with my account and click on the “buy and download” button, I only get an error message: “You cannot purchase this product – choose the right product”. And trying to register a second account fails, because my email address is already in use.
After you login to your account, look at the right-hand column. You should see a link to upgrade to CMS. Click on it. As a paying client, you only need to pay the difference and not the full price. This is why our system is blocking you from buying the full product and paying full price.
Sorry, but there is no upgrade link. My previous subscription has already expired. May this be the cause? I simply want to buy the cms version, a special upgrade offer would be nice but is not required – I am willing to pay the full price.
Sorry about that. It’s a bug in our system, which we’re fixing. If you buy without logging in, with a different email address, it will work for you.
Alternatively, you might want to know that very soon (hopefully on Monday), we will have an option for lifetime accounts. These cost $195. It will be available to everyone, including clients with expired accounts. When you get this, you only pay the difference between $195 and what you paid already. We’re trying very hard to have this live on Sunday night and ready to use on Monday.
I have a client asking for help to prepare and manage the translation of their website into multiple languages. This is my first exposure to WPML and have only access to their WP site but not their WPML account. They have purchased the WPML plugin and activated the XLIFF module. is one suppose to be able to access the Translation Management module from their WordPress website admin area or from their WPML account/page/login?
Thanks for replying but I’m not sure it helps me. The client has both the WPML and XLIFF modules installed and active. Our user profile is set to administrator yet I cannot see how to get to the translation management part. I can send a screenshot to show what options we do get if it would help.
WPML doesn’t translate your content. It lets you translate yourself or send content to translators. WPML lets you run a WordPress site in several languages.

The theme author is invited to our Go Global program:

Hi,
I need to know if this plugin work with Page.ly MultiEdit’s Plugin or Multiple content blocks’s plugin.
Thanks for your answer.
I’m not sure about how Page.ly MultiEdit works. I’ll contact Page.ly now and ask. Hope to get their attention.
Juste bought WPML. I confirm it works perfectly with Page.ly 🙂
Thanks WPML for this amazing plugin.

You can set up custom languages with WPML and have completely different content per each of these languages. Do you really need to have completely different content in each country variant, or just a different address page?
Yes. We MAY have different content per COUNTRY so it is important that we can customize each COUNTRY per page.

If somebody comes in from Germany… will the site automatically load in German?
Ferran
This is a feature that you can enable in WPML. We call it ‘Browser language redirect’:
http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/automatic-redirect-based-on-browser-language/
It uses the browser’s language setting, which is usually a lot more accurate than IP address detection.

I was wondering if wpml supports WordPress multi-site and if so can h have different languages enabled for different sites.
Yes. You can use WPML on multisite installs and select different sets of languages for each site in the network.

Hi may I know if I wana have an option for my customers to choose what currency they wanna pay for, do I go for the 29/79 plan? And is this easy to install cause I’m not very familiar with codes and would like to save the money instead of hiring someone else to do it for me. Thanks
I understand that you are running an e-commerce site. What plugin are you using for the e-commerce functionality?
hi, im using woocommerce. May i know if u guys provide installation service and how much? I only want the currency exchange feature. thanks
and is this one off payment? or annually?
Hello, I would like to use the plugin on a wordpress version 2.9.1. Would it be possible?
Sorry, but WPML will not run correctly with WordPress 2.9.x. It depends on several WordPress functions that are only available in WordPress 3.3 and above.
hi,
can i use wpml blog-version for a blog with woocommerce shop or does this require the wpml-cms-version?
silke
You need the complete CMS version to use with WooCommerce.
and would it be possible to use the blog version to multilingualize only the blog while using woocommerce only with the original language? or won’t it work at all in that case?
background for this question: if possible i would then buy the blog version now, use it to add a second language for my blog & go on with the shop only in one language & would probably upgrade to cms version later.
I think that this should be fine. If you are using WooCommerce just for one language, there should be no interaction with WPML.
thanks … and one more question: i am using day & name permalinks and i have been writing my blog for years now … will the permalinks stay the same for my original language or will the urls change when implementing wpml i. e. all old links would be broken?
Could you please advise me whether WPML is compatable with the WordPress 3.6 (NEW) “Customizr Theme?
WPML is certainly compatible with WordPress 3.6. What Customizr theme are you referring to?
Hello Amir thanks for the quick reply I am referring to following Theme I posted the following links for your attention thanks in advance:
http://demo.themesandco.com/ http://wordpress.org/themes/customizr https://github.com/Nikeo/customizr
I’m referring to the Customizr Theme as follows:
http://wordpress.org/themes/customizr
http://www.themesandco.com/customizr/
https://github.com/Nikeo/customizr
Here is a discussion I found on it:
http://wpml.org/forums/topic/royal-slider-homephp-wpml/
Does WPML require multisite support?
(I’ve read that it does support multisite, but I have some sites where I want to use it without enabling multisite.)
Is it possible (without multisite enabled!) to have a link structure like:
evidenti.it (for italian site)
evidenti.it/en (for english site)
evidenti.it/de (for german site)
… and so on… ?
(or en.evidenti.it, de.evidenti.it, … ?)
Is there also an automatic site redirection feature in your plugin that could work in this case?
Thanks!
Maximilian
Hello,
I am working with WPML for my client.
The translations do not seem to be working in the user profile area of the site.
How can I get the translations to work in the profile area?
lee
Hello,
Can I get a response to this? I see you have skipped my message and are responding to later messages.
lee
Sorry for the late reply. Missed this question.
Thanks.
Hi there,
I have a Website that has a template will all Languages I need already in .po and .mo. So template stucture won’t be problem for me.
My question is, what version should I buy? Blog version or CMS?
I only need to translate, titles, posts, pages, menus, and redirect visitors regarding to the Browser language.
By the way, what site structure should I use? language.domain.tld or domain.tld/language?
Hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks,
Tomé
WPML lets you implement the URL structure that you prefer. You can choose between language in domains or in virtual folders.
For you, the main difference between the Blog and CMS version would be the String Translation, which is only available in the full CMS version. The String Translation module lets you translate texts that don’t belong to any post. For example, the tagline, widget titles, text widgets, etc.
If you don’t have any of these, the Blog version will be fine for you. You can always buy the Blog version and later upgrade to the full CMS version. In that case, you will need to pay the difference.
Does this help?
Yes, thanks.
Didn’t know we could try Blog version and then Upgrade if necessary. Will get a look if Blog version work for me.
Regards
I am looking to convert my site into multi language and multi currency, Multi language part is fine with me but what I need is information regarding multi currency, in my country paypal is not allowed, so I have a payment gateway that works with my country currency, and I want to use paypal for rest of the world with Dollar as currency,
If it possible that when a visitor select a currency, only a particular payment gateway will be available and when he select a different currency then another payment gateway wil be available. no matter what is the language of the site.
Thanks in advance
So how is this meant to work?
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards
This access is via the WordPress site. Your client needs to have the Translation Management and XLIFF modules installed. Here is a documentation page that explains how it works:
http://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-desktop-cat-tools/
Thanks for replying but I’m not sure it helps me. The client has both the WPML and XLIFF modules installed and active. Our user profile is set to administrator yet I cannot see how to get to the translation management part. I can send a screenshot to show what options we do get if it would help.
Sorry for the confusion. You also need to install WPML Translation Management.
Hi , I want to buy the cms version and my question is : wpml will translate my blog or I need people to do it???
regards
zayra
WPML doesn’t translate your content. It lets you translate yourself or send content to translators. WPML lets you run a WordPress site in several languages.
