Hi, there, how are you? I have a question, there is an easy way to translate everything in automatic with WPML ?
It doesn’t matter if the translations are not perfect. Thank you
Sorry, but WPML doesn’t interface to machine translation services. You can translate content yourself, or send to professional translators, but WPML doesn’t do machine translation.
We are looking to purchase this program (WPML) but had a question. If my browser is set to Spanish as the default language for example, does WPML automatically detect that, and display the WPML Spanish translated pages or do you have to manually select Spanish from the language dropdown on the site, regardless of the default language set in the browser.
Thanks! One last question, do the translated pages retain the same post/page ID – so, if I am calling a page via shortcode – say [post-content id=1140] do the English and Spanish versions of the page retain the same post ID so the shortcode only needs to be called once?
I’m not familiar with that theme. It looks nice and modern and should run fine with WPML. As long as themes use the WordPress API and don’t do hacks, they work fine with WPML. This is true for almost all themes that we see.
WPML works great with Yoast SEO plugin. We use it on all our sites and manage SEO in all languages.
And yes, if you use Bootstrap, you will not have any issues with WPML. WPML has very little interaction with the site’s CSS. It only adds a language switcher, which you can place in different places and methods. We also use Bootstrap for some of our projects and we love it.
Also does the plugin work with the twitter bootstrap responsive element of the theme I mentioned above?
Actually does the plugin integrate with any responsive themes?
Is the Greek language supported in WPML? Would like to set it as the default language & also change to english, (from dropdown list…). No need for auto translating.
Thx!
Yes, WPML comes with Greek language and is also fully localized to Greek. If you want to set the WordPress admin language to Greek, all WPML menus (in the admin) will display nicely in Greek.
Of course, you can use it for the language of content, so that visitors can select Greek language when browsing the site.
Does the plugin translate text. If I have pages in English how would they be translated into say Arabic.
Once translated I assume that an additional page is created so there are two pages one in English and the other in Arabic. Then whatever language is selected the appropriate page is displayed?
WPML creates new pages for translated content and links them back to the original pages. However, WPML doesn’t translate the texts for you. It lets you translate, or use translation services.
Do the translated pages retain the same post/page ID – so, if I am calling a page via shortcode – say [post-content id=1140] do the English and Spanish versions of the page retain the same post ID so the shortcode only needs to be called once?
Translated content sits on new posts, with new IDs. WPML connects between all these translations. WPML comes with API functions that let you retrieve the ID of a post in another language. We use it a lot for things like you need here.
Thanks, but what I mean is, I am wanting to call a single page to display a message. So I would use that shortcode. What i don’t want to do is have to create a separate page with different shortcode for each language if the post ID is different between translations, as that would defeat the purpose of the shortcode.
Can I just use the one, and WPML will automatically call the translated page?
Yes, but this will have to be coded into the shortcode logic. WPML automatically hooks to a number of WordPress API calls and adjusts IDs. I’m not sure what API calls your logic uses, so I can’t tell if this will happen today or not. If this is your PHP code, it would be very easy to add this tiny check and reach the post in the right language.
Of course. All our support people are programmers and they would be able to help with this very easily. Please note that the support team will be able to guide you through it and help you. They cannot rebuild your code. I this OK?
I’m building a website for a charity that’s setting up a local solar energy co-op in south Wales. They want to translate the co-op’s website into Welsh, and they’re wondering if they might be able to get a non-profit license for WPML. They haven’t been able to find their charity commission certificate, but have submitted an application using their last year’s accounts required by the charity commission. What do you think the likelihood is of their application being successful?
I would like to know if there is a way not to translate a part of post/page.
For example, I have several products in English and would like it to stay like that even though I, theoretically, did ask for translation for the whole page.
—before translation—
[sample start]
…
Piano Music [View] [Buy]
Pop Songs [View] [Buy]
…
[sample end]
—after translation—-
[sample start]
…
Piano Music [보기] [선택]
Pop Songs [보기] [선택]
…
[sample end]
So the Piano Music and Pop Songs remained the same.
We are planning to buy the product, but I just want to make sure this is going to work for us. 🙂
It would be best to generate this kind of content programmatically. You can create a custom post type for these items, with the required fields and iterate through it to display the items.
We are planning to use WPML for an upcoming project and I cannot find a definitive answer as to whether there is a Related Posts plugin that would work with WPML. I can see from the forums that WPML was possibly working with YARPP, but I don’t see any resolution or announcement as to where that ended up.
Should I assume that cine it’s not on the list of compatible plugins that it still does not work?
Are there any that you might recommend that might not require too much work to get working?
WPML works fine with YARPP. Since YARPP uses the WordPress API to search for related posts (as it should), WPML limits the searches for content in the current language and it works fine.
I would like to buy the WPML plugin and use it on the Bordeaux – Premium Restaurant Theme. I need to know if the WPML plugin is compatible with this theme.
We haven’t tested Bordeaux with WPML, so I can’t say for sure. Most themes work smoothly with WPML. This theme appears complex and it’s worth checking it. I recommend to ask the theme author to spend a few minutes with us on our Go Global program: http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
In any case, if you buy WPML and need any help, our support staff will be glad to assist. If eventually the theme and WPML don’t work together right now, you can always get your money back.
Does WPML support WordPress multi-site setups? Translations can be bound to domains. Is this limited to sub-domains (de.whatever.com, en.whatever.com etc.) or does it work with different TLDs as well (whatever.com, whatever.de, etc.)?
Yes, you can install WPML on multi-site installs. This means that you can activate WPML on the root blog and on child blogs. You can also network-activate WPML for the entire network.
And, unrelated to this, you can use different sub-domains or domains to map languages. You can use any domain for any language. It can be a subdomain and also a completely different TLD.
I intend to purchase the plugin but need to know the following:
1) my hosting company is godaddy and my developers have access and build the site on godaddy. Do I download the plugin into my godaddy account or on my website? If on the hosting company, would the company allow it?
2) would I be able to give access to the plugin to my translators to translate directly from my site?
When you use a GoDaddy account, you get full access to uploading files. Just like WordPress, WPML comes as a ZIP file. You need to unzip it locally and upload to your site’s “plugins” directory. Then, activate and start using it. GoDaddy doesn’t really care what files you upload to your site.
Yes, WPML comes with an interface for translators. You can create accounts for them and send specific content for translation. Of course, you can also send the entire site’s content for translation too. Translator interface is limited (intentionally) only to translating. The translators will be able to translate, but they cannot accidentally change your original content.
Hi, I have a pre-sales question.
Does WPML have the ability to not show information (pages, post and menu items) if there has been no translation? To simplify – if a post has not been translated then don’t show it in the language that has been selected.
Example, a have a page in English that has not been translated into French therefore do no show that particular page when selecting French as the language.
Yes, WPML supports this. We do this via content duplication. You choose what content to duplicate and WPML does it for you. This way, site navigation remains persistent in the correct language. You can always edit this duplicated content and translate it.
WPML informs Google about the canonical source of the content, so that Google doesn’t get confused and thinks that you are duplicating content incorrectly.
I work on setting up a multilanguage page with Cyberchimps iFeature Pro 5. I tried qtranslate, but there is no possibility to use the boxes-element integrated. Because it only works in 1 language. Can I get multilanguage iFeature boxes with WPML? If yes I would not hesitate to purchase it. Thanks for your answer. Best regards Ulrike
Even if you are not familiar with the theme, it is listed in you Compatible Theme list. But I think I will give it a try, better than wait any longer. Thank you for your answer.
Hi there, I am pretty interested in your plugin but something is not clear for me.
I have a website in 5 languages where visitors publish posts and the important question if a visitor publish in Spanish the post will be register as Spanish or as the main language what is not Spanish ?
I am using a premium theme.
Thanks in avance for your reply!
Normally, WPML will display content in each language separately. This means, posts in Spanish will appear only in Spanish and posts in English will appear only in English. This is the default behavior.
However, you can configure WPML so that it displays untranslated blog posts, as well as translated posts. Then, if a post is translated, you will see the translation. Otherwise, you will see the post in the default language.
There is no monthly fee. When you buy WPML, you get support and upgrades for one year. You can later renew this support and upgrades for $39 for each additional year. Alternatively, you can buy a lifetime account for $195, and get support and updates forever.
Hello, I am interested in buying the Multilingual CMS license, to try out your plugin. When it’s all good, I will of course eventually proceed to upgrade it to the Multilingual CMS Lifetime license. Will the price to upgrade just be the difference, any time within the year of the Multilingual CMS license?
Thank you for choosing WPML. When you upgrade from the yearly account to the lifetime account, you will only need to pay the difference between the two. Yes, you can upgrade anytime during that time.
I run a newssite and post like 10-20 new posts a day.
What i don’t understand is how it actually works. I read the documentations but my English probably isn’t that well 😉
I create a post in English and want to translate it in Danish, German, Spanish and Portugese. Do i have to search for someone to translate it and pay for it or does Your support group of people tranlate it?
And how much time does it take to translate a post in another language?
WPML doesn’t do the actual translation for you. If you need help with the translation, WPML lets you use translation services. There is tight integration with ICanLocalize and also very polished integration with any freelance of translation agency using XLIFF files (which is the standard).
We don’t recommend using machine translation on your site. Google explains that this will not be appreciated by their algorithms.
Are you looking for human translation for this content? Let me know if so and I’ll connect you with the right people.
WPML lets you build a WordPress site with several languages. It doesn’t do the translation for you. When you use WPML, you can translate content yourself or send it to external translators.
We don’t handle translation work like what you are looking for. ICanLocalize is a professional translation service and the amount of content that you have (10-20 posts per day) would probably cost a lot to translate.
Hi, i would like to use WPML on a wordpress website based on gantry framework 1.27: http://www.21luglio.org. Is this version of Gantry compatible with WPML?
thank you!
I’m not familiar with the details of Gantry framework. We had experience in the past with themes from RocketTheme, using WPML and Gantry. It worked fine.
If you buy WPML and have any trouble, our support team will do their very best to help. And, if you are not happy with WPML, you can always get your money back.
When you get translation work from ICanLocalize (which is an additional service to the cost of WPML), you pay per word. Our system cannot tell what changed in the original content when it’s already translated on your site. So, it can only charge you for the full content.
Once content has been translated by ICanLocalize, we have the full history of what’s been translated and you can send documents for update and pay only for new or modified content.
All translators in ICanLocalize are certified professional translators with a university degree in translation or equivalent.
I’m not sure I understand your answer, so let me frame the question with a scenario.
1. We write a 300 word english article in wordpress
2. Through the WPML plugin we request a spanish translation for the full article
3. Payment for the entire translation has been completed
4. The spanish translation has been received from WPML’s translators
5. 2 weeks later we change 5 words in the original english article
At this point, if we ask for a translation of the same article with the 5 new words..
Will we pay only for the 5 new words?
Or will we need to pay for the entire 300 word english article to be translated again?

WPML includes browser language redirection. You can enable it for your site and it will do exactly what you’re describing:
http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/automatic-redirect-based-on-browser-language/
Thanks! One last question, do the translated pages retain the same post/page ID – so, if I am calling a page via shortcode – say [post-content id=1140] do the English and Spanish versions of the page retain the same post ID so the shortcode only needs to be called once?

http://realhomes.inspirythemes.com/
also if the CMS version is purchased will it translate the menu in the dashboard (not wanted) when inputting another language?

I’m not sure. Our queue for non profits is pretty long right now and we actually review each application to see that it meets our guidelines.
As long as we can put in a hook that can call the different language, that works for me. Thank you

You can buy WPML for these pricing:
$29 – the basic Blog version
$79 – the full CMS version
$195 – the full CMS version with lifetime upgrades
Have a look at our purchase page for the full details:
