  2. Hi,

Yesterday I sent a comment but till now I am mot seeing it, so I tried to send it again hoping that this time it will be published.

I would like to know if the Directory theme from templatic.com is compatible with WPML as they claim on their page. ( http://templatic.com/app-themes/wp-directory-theme-faq )

I searched your English Support Page and I found out on a support post ( http://wpml.org/forums/topic/can-you-provide-help-for-templatic-booking-plug-in/ ) that you didn’t receive a response from them when you tried to contact them.

Much more they are not listed on your Theme Compatibility Page. ( http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/ )

So please, could you tell me if I buy their theme and want to translate it using WPML, I will fall into the “deep sea” or not?

    Thank you very much.
    Panos

    • Sorry for being late to reply. The developer who works on our compatibility with Templatic is away until after New Year (Thursday). I know that this is work in progress, but I’m not 100% sure about the status. It might be working and there may be little things remaining. Anyway, I’ll have a reply after the holiday and will post here.

  3. My client bought this plug-in and I am trying to make it work with his website the way he wanted. Please correct me if I am thinking wrong or guide me how his objective can be achieved.

His expectation is that plug-in will automatically do the translation of all pages of his website. His website is in English language and he wants when someone clicks on French, the text on all pages will get translated into French by the plug-in and appear on pages, same for other languages.

However, the way I see your plug-in works that I have to provide the translated text in advance in all the languages we want, plug-in will simply show pre-translated text. That translated text can be obtained from any other source.

Do you have any other plug-in what does the translation for us and then show it, please guide, thank you.

    • Sorry, but WPML doesn’t translate the content. It’s a tool that lets you manage content in multiple languages in one WordPress site.

You should know that Google specifically warns against using machine translation, as your own content, in websites. It’s fine to use Google machine translation, as a widget in your site. This way, on every request, you refer visitors to Google to get the translation from there. However, Google doesn’t permit using their machine translation as your content (in your database).

  4. Dear WPML staff,

before purchasing your tool i’d like to know how it behaves with ACF 4 plugin.

Does it provide translation for every text/textarea/wysiwyg field, even in nested field structures?

    Thanks for your support
    F.

    • Since the fields belong to posts, each post will have its own fields. So yes, you can translate all fields with WPML. The slight issue between ACF and WPML is with keeping translated fields synchronized. If you actually translate the content and fields, this will not be a problem. WPML cannot automatically synchronize between fields in translated content, because it doesn’t follow the fields grouping algorithm of ACF.

  5. Hey
I think of buying WPML. I only have a question left.

I will use it with my gavick (M) social Theme.
It is said that it is campatible. What does that mean? are the buttons and other theme contents translated or does it fit layout?

I haven’t understood this yet. Maybe you can help me.
The problem is: I want it to be in German (All content is written in german but the buttons and so on aren’t)

    Thank you

    • I see that Gavik themes were tested with WPML:
      http://wpml.org/developer/gavick/

      Our testing includes:
      Translating theme texts
Translating main pages (the user content)

Some themes come with .mo files, which include translation for the hard-coded texts, like buttons. I’m not sure if this theme comes with the German .mo file. If not, you should be able to translate the button labels using WPML’s String Translation module.

  6. Hi,

I currently made my website on the wordpress platform using an responsive theme.
Can I install the multi language without having to remake the entire website?

Is it something that I can add later?

    Kind regards,

    Steven Colin

    • Yes, WPML will not change the responsiveness of your site. WPML adds languages to the WordPress site, allowing you to write content in several languages. All the CSS, which visitors see on the front-end, comes from your theme, making it multilingual doesn’t make a change. You can add WPML now or any time later.

  7. I have a multilingual site 2 languages:
    1st – Brazilian Portuguese;
    2nd – English.

I wonder if with WPML i get:

    1. type the word in the search field in 1st language (pt-br) and WPML translates this typed word for the language 2 (en-us) and performs the search looking for the words in language 2 (en-us). I mean, all the keywords/taxonomy (IPTC images) are set in English, and want visitors get to perform the search in the 1st language (pt-br) and get the results with the entered keyword (translated by the plugin in the search input field).

    2. Does WPML translates keywords/taxonomy?

    Thanks in advance.

    Well,something like that.

If you know some solution, for it, please, share it here. ;0)

    Thanks

    • WPML doesn’t translate any content. It’s a tool that lets you write in several languages in one WordPress site. If you create content in English and Portuguese, visitors will be able to search in these languages on the front-end. By default, WPML will only return content in the relevant language. So, if a visitor is on a Portuguese page and enters a search string, WordPress will only return content in Portuguese.

You can translate pages, posts, taxonomy and anything else on your site.

  8. Hi,

I wanna know if is possible to have a demo version then i can see if this work fine with mine website, then i can buy it.

    It is important for me.

    Thank’s

    regards

    • Sorry, but we don’t have a demo version of WPML. We do offer 30-days refunds. If you buy WPML and are not completely happy with it, we will refund your payment. Very few people ask for this refund, so there’s a very good chance that you will be happy with WPML.

  9. Can this language scenario work (for the Lifetime CMS option)?

The admin is English with the default (primary) content created all Spanish; the front end all Spanish (menus, messages, etc.) with option to view site in English.

I read an earlier post that the viewer’s browser will show the language they have selected. If this is the case, it is going to cause confusion with the setup mentioned?

    • Yes, this language arrangement will work fine. WPML lets you select the site’s default language in the front-end, independently of the admin language. It even allows different administrators to have their unique admin languages for the same site.

The browser language detection works unrelated to the default language. When enabled, WPML checks the browser’s language setting and redirects visitors to their preferred language.

  10. WPML staff:

I need to know if I can a) turn off the machine based translation as desired – and rather use human translation instead as needed. b) Are you able to display side by side English and “Other language” content fields to easily compare content? and c) Does this product work on WPengine.com host provider. Thanks in advance.

    • WPML doesn’t do machine translation. It’s a tool that lets you translate yourself. Google advices not to use any machine translation as your own content. When you use WPML, you can add several languages to your site and translate your content. WPML includes translation interfaces that make it easy to translate yourself or get translation work from others.

WPML’s Translation Editor indeed displays content side by site, for convenient translation. It also highlights what changed since content was last translated. You can see how it works in this page:
      http://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-the-translation-editor/

Actually, the translation editor shows originals and translation one above the other, rather than side by site. For rich HTML content, we find this arrangement more convenient for editing.

  11. Hello WPML,

First of all Happy New Year!
I would like to know what I have to buy in order to make a WooCommerce site multilingual. Is the “Multilingual CMS” for $79 the proper package ?

    • Happy New Year to your too!

For WooCommerce Multilingual, you need to buy the full ‘Multilingual CMS’ package, which costs $79. E-Commerce sites require pretty much all of WPML’s features.

  12. Hello Amir (or whomever is covering),

Did you happen to see my last question posted on Dec 28th? In case you missed it, here it is again…

“what db changes are made by wpml that are not reversed upon the plugins removal?”

    Thx

    • Sorry, I missed your previous question.

WPML keeps different translations in different posts/taxonomy. Each of the posts doesn’t include any language tags, so when you remove WPML, the content is unchanged. To do this, WPML creates its own language tables. These tables tell WPML what language different content has.

When you just deactivate WPML, nothing changes in the database. Since deactivation is a normal part of the plugin upgrade, no change should happen to the database.

WPML has a cleanup function, accessible from its admin screen, which lets you completely remove the language information. This is an irreversible operation, which will delete WPML’s language tables and any entries in the options table. After you run this, all language information, added by WPML, is removed from the database for good.

  13. Hello,

What do you mean by renewal? If I just want to translate a simple site running on word press, can I just get the Multilingual Blog? Will I need to pay 29$ every year after that?

    Cheers

      • If you are building a multilingual e-commerce site, you will need the full ‘Multilingual CMS’ package, which costs $79. When you buy WPML, you get support and upgrades for one year. You can renew your account at a cost of $39 per each additional year. Alternatively, you can buy the Lifetime package for $195. Then, you get support and upgrades for life, without any renewals.

  14. We have a WordPress website in English with many plugins (Contact Form 7, HDW Player, News Manager, The Events Calendar, WP-Projects-Portfolio, wp photo gallery and others).

We need to add Arabic, French and Dutch languages.

    We have few questions:
1- Will your plugin allow full customization for above plugins per listed languages? Is your plugin going to add the languages in any plugin we will need to add in the future or not?
2- Will your plugin allow full localization such that when I click on a specific news in English then choose the Arabic language it will take the surfer to the same news but with translated Arabic news version?
3- Will your plugin allow theme customization per each network installation independently?
4- Which version is appropriate for us to purchase please?
    Thanks.

  15. Hi

I’m working on a wordpress section within an existing site which already has language management. This sets a global variable eg Eng Fra etc which PHP uses to display the relevant content.

Can I use that variable to specify the language for wpml to use? I do not want to have a second language selection menu

    Thanks

    Lee

    • WPML can set the language of pages either in the domain, as a virtual folder or argument. Please note that each page, in each language has a different URL. The difference between translated pages is not just the language name, but the page slug as well. Normally, this is considered a big advantage for SEO.

You can use WPML’s API to calculate the URL of content in different pages. Would that help?

  16. Does this work with Artisteer templates do you know?

Also – can you confirm that there is a Welsh language localisation option?

    Many thanks.

    • You can certainly use WPML to write in Welsh language. We’ve seen sites that run from Artisteer themes. We haven’t tried it ourselves, but there are a number of clients in our forum who use it and it appears to be running fine.

  17. Hi,
what does mean this sentence “Account renewal per year”
Does this mean i have to pay something every year ?

    Thanks

    • When you buy WPML, you get support and upgrades for a year. You can renew support and upgrades for additional years, at 50% per year. If you decide not to renew, the plugins will continue working on your sites, but you will not have access to our support or to plugin upgrades.

Alternatively, you can buy the ‘Lifetime’ account and get support and upgrades for life, without the yearly renewals.

  18. I’m looking to purchase WPML for my blog. I want to run English and one other language. However, the language I need is not listed in the available languages for WPML. If I can install my own, how easy is it? (I would potentially have to create .mo/.po myself) The language is Romany (or Romanes) 639-3 rom (rom_ROM) …

I ran into issues with other plug-ins and want to be sure that I can add and edit my own direct language translations into a largely unsupported language.

(Also, if I pay for the cheaper license, do I need to pay ever year to maintain functionality? Thanks!)

    • No problem. You can add custom languages to your site. Click on WPML->Languages->Edit languages and add any language that you have. If you provide the .mo files for that language, the WordPress admin, theme and plugins will be localized as well. These .mo files are completely optional. You can translate hard-coded strings using WPML’s String Translation, without any .mo files. Please note that WPML’s String Translation is only available in the ‘Multilingual CMS’ ($79) version.

The renewal fee is for upgrades and support. If you don’t renew, everything works normally for your sites, but you cannot access our support and upgrades. Functionality will not break.

  19. Is there any limitation to the number of languages a website can have with WPML? I’m thinking on creating a 22 language website.

  20. I wont to buy WPML for the company I work, and I didnt find information how to get an invoice after I will make a payment, access my account and download WPML.
Please let me know how to do this.

    Best regards Jaroslaw Pawlak

    • You can buy WPML under your own name. After your purchase is complete, you can customize the information in the tax invoice. There, you can add your company information, and anything else that you need to appear on the invoice. Please remember that your name will still appear. The tax invoice will include our tax details.

  21. Hi there,

Im probably buying the WPML plugin to use for a corporate website in the near future. My only question is; I’d like to show a different menu on the English website then on the French/German website. In French I want to disable 1 or 2 menu items…. Is this possible with the WPML plugin or do I need do figure out something else?

And Id like my website.fr to go instantly to the French homepage en website.com to go to the English website… It is not necesarry to create a multisite wordpress installation right?

    Thanks in advance!

    • Sure. WPML lets you manage different menus for each language. If you like, WPML can synchronize between these menus, but they can run completely independent of one another.

You can enable browser language detection in WPML. This will automatically redirect visitors to content in their languages.

And, when you use WPML, you only need to have one WordPress installation for all languages. Languages can be in virtual folders or different domains, but it all comes out of a single WordPress install.

  22. Hello. We are trying to buy wpml with our verified paypal account. However, we get this message : “We are not able to process your payment using your PayPal account at this time. Please return to the merchant’s website and try using a different payment method (if available).” What can we do to fix the issue ? Thank you very much !!!

    • Weird. It’s not coming from our side, but something in PayPal. Want to try with a different browser? Maybe there’s some PayPal cookie issue.

  23. Hello,

I purchased the “Parasponsive” Template (incl. Woo Commerce, from Go.Get.Themes) as Version 2.3. Could I use your WPML-Plugin (with hopefully no bugs…) or do I have to update to the Parasponsive Version 2.6?
I can’t find much info on the developers site…

    Thanks for your help!

    • WPML works great with WooCommerce, so that will not be a problem.

The theme doc page mentions WPML:
      http://democorporate.parasponsive.com/docs/index.html

I can’t find it in our compatibility list. It doesn’t mean it’s not working, it only means that our developers didn’t review it.

You can buy WPML and use it. Let’s assume that things are working correctly. If there is any trouble, our developers will be happy to work with the theme developers. If there is any issue that we cannot resolve (which is very rare), we can always refund your order.

    • Hi Amir,

thanks for your quick reply. We are actually not using the WooCommerce functions/PlugIn with this Template, just as a simple Website. But if would not work & we get a refund, even better so we could give it a try.

      Thanks!
