I have performance issues on my site with woocommerce. With the plugin "Code Profiler", I see that WPML is using more than 60% of the time to load pages.

See picture.

How to proceed?

Hi there,

The plugin code profiler will almost always display WPML as one of the top plugins in their metrics, as the plugin requires more resources due to its complexity.

Are you currently experiencing performance issues when loading your site, updating or saving a page/product, or any other specific performance-related issues?

Yes my site runs very slow when doing anything not cached. Add to cart, backend orders page etc.

10 seconds..

Thank you for confirming!

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to test the issue.
(preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible)

**Before we proceed It is necessary to take FULL BACKUP of your database and your website. Providing us with access, you agree that a backup has been taken **

I often use the Duplicator plugin for this purpose: http://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/
You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply.
The information you enter is private which means only you and I have access to it.

NOTE: If access to the live site is not possible and the staging site does not exist please provide me with a duplicator package created with the duplicator plugin.

Thank you,
Bobby

Hi there,

I did a load test in the dashboard but was not able to reproduce the issue.

With WPML enabled there is a load time of 4.00 - 4.71

Without WPML enabled the load time is 4.00 - 4.22

Loading a backend page (community) with WPML activated -> 5.94 and deactivated 4.56

Typically we would want to see a load time that is at least 20% or higher than when WPML is deactivated.

Please try this:

1. Install the Google Chrome extension Page Load Time
2. Go to Plugins and deactivate the Caching plugins
3. Pick a backend action and repeat with WPML enabled and with WPML disabled. (do at least 3 to 4 loads to get an accurate average for both enabled and deactivated )

Let me know your results, also please do let me know if there is another action in the backend I can test.

Thanks for your reply. Strange that you are seeing that. I have noticed a difference in our performance when switching between php8.0 and php8.2. Currently, php8.0 is much faster and I am trying to find out why.

Seen anything like that before?

Yes, PHP 8.2 is not currently fully supported by WordPress (it's supported in Beta) and we do have some known bugs in PHP 8.2 and 8.1, nothing major but who knows if it could create bigger issues with other plugins. the same applies to other plugins.

At the moment I would not recommend 8.2 as it is not yet as stable and supported as 8.0

Okay noted. But php8.0 support is running out within a few weeks?

Also back to main topic:

Don’t you feel my site is still very slow? How can this be debugged?

Thank you for the update, regarding the performance I do not see a major performance increase with WPML deactivated, as mentioned in the previous reply.(https://wpml.org/forums/topic/performance-issues-wpml/#post-14674573)

I would recommend testing with a few different 3rd party plugins deactivated and seeing if the performance increases, as this is more of general performance rather than caused by WPML we are limited as to how we could debug further.
