This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: Client experienced missing entries in the WPML admin menu and are unable to find the 'Languages' option necessary for setup.r/>Solution: We recommend disabling all plugins temporarily to see if this allows the WPML setup wizard to continue. Once the conflicting plugins are disabled, you should be able to complete the WPML setup wizard and configure your language options. After the setup is complete, you can then re-enable your plugins one by one to identify the one causing the conflict.
If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems irrelevant due to being outdated or not applicable to your case, we suggest opening a new support ticket. We also highly recommend checking related known issues, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If further assistance is needed, please contact us in the WPML support forum.
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
First I don't want to make things on my own with this 2. install, to don't make things worse. But now I deactivated the main plugin wpml and have access to the pages again.
So I wait on your advice now. Thanks a lot,
Kind regards
Eric
PS: and after more reading I decide to stay with your default system with 2 digits language code
probably something went wrong before with the configuration or was not completed.
You can simply reset WPML and configure it again:
- Go to WPML → Support and click the Troubleshooting link.
In the Reset section of the Troubleshooting page, select the I am about to reset all translation and language data checkbox. Then, click the Reset and deactivate WPML button.
Hi,
Thanks, but I sent you already my screenshot and you see, that I have only minor admin menu entries (enclosed again). So I have no Languages (needed for Step 1 in your suggested doc) and I need now further advice especially for this behavior of WPML.
I am really shocked how complicate things here developed, Translatepress was so easy in using, and there I could change en to en-us and back easily. I decided to use WPML again because I need the more conservative translation way to my site I learned. So I hope WPML and I can be friends one day.
So please give me now a possibility to start again. If you want to take a look at a staging site, please let me know. It could be probably the better way because I am working on the start of WPML for a long time now.
I am not sure what happened, but it seems either corruption caused all of this during setup or before or after, as WPML doesn't have only these options, so I understand this causes further confusion for you. It should be an easy-going setup for you.
To speed things up, let me have a look and setup things up for you.
Please share admin access to the staging site and languages how you wish them to be setup, and I will do the cleanup and settings for you.
Hi,
Thanks, I disabled all plugins in the main site, but without success. I deleted all plugins of WPML and the mysql tables and tried to install it again, without success. Then I copied the staging site, which you worked on, back to the main. Now I have the working WPML plugin in my main site, but 2 fatal errors: one with trying to use settings of WPML and one trying to use the Woocommerce WPML plugin setting. Media library is shown empty ... I have the debug.log with the shown errors.
How can you help now?
Thanks, kind regards
Eric
