Background of the issue:
I am experiencing two issues with my WordPress site using WPML. The first issue is related to the language flags on the Italian version of a specific page not redirecting to the correct translated pages. The second issue is with the 'translation of' submenu option in the WordPress dashboard's Appearance/Menus section, which is not always visible across different PCs and when it is, it's not consistently visible or properly formatted.

Symptoms:
1) On the Italian version of hidden link, clicking on language flags does not redirect to the correct translated pages. The URL shown is hidden link instead of the correct URL with the "?lang=es" or other language. This issue does not occur on the English, Spanish, or German versions of the page.

2) In the WordPress dashboard under Appearance/Menus, the 'translation of' submenu option is not always visible across different PCs and when it is, it's not consistently visible or properly formatted.

Questions:
Can you help me fix the issue with the language flags on the Italian version of the page not redirecting to the correct translated pages?

Can you help me resolve the issue with the 'translation of' submenu option not appearing or being improperly formatted in the WordPress dashboard?

Hi there,

Thank you for contacting WPML support, I’m happy to help you with this issue.

According to the debug info, I see the WPML version on your site is an old version (4.2.6). I recommend following the documentation below to update WPML plugins to the new version as well as other plugins and WordPress then check the issue again.
https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-safely-update-wpml-from-an-old-to-new-version/

Also, the WordPress Memory Limit is below the requirements. The minimum requirements are 128M, but we do recommend 256M and the debug information of your site shows it set to 40M. Please check this link for more details https://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements/.

Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks

Good afternoon,

thank you for the support and sorry for long time before my answer.

I have one question about the procedure of updating an older version though. There is written to deactivate and delete my current 4.2.6 WPML and all its components, then go in the changelog and download a major WPML version closest to mine (i guess in my case would be 4.2.7.1) and then in my WordPress admin, go to Plugins and upload the WPML version. Then repeat the process.

But if i delete my WPML plugin and all other components like WPML String Translation and WPML Translation management, do i still keep all my translations and all page translated as they are ?

One the other hand, having this doubt and thinking that simply updating the current version of my plugin from WordPress could have maintained the transations, i did it and all website now it's not reachable because of an error ...i report here the error thta i gave taken from WordPress recovery mode:

This plugin did not load correctly and is paused during recovery mode.
An E_COMPILE_ERROR error was caused on line 6 of the file /home/nimnoaky/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wpml-translation-management-master/inc/functions-load.php.

Error message: Cannot redeclare wpml_tm_load_element_translations() (previously declared in /home/nimnoaky/public_html/wp-content/plugins/sitepress-multilingual-cms/inc/functions-load-tm.php:23)

I have a back up of either the database and file manager before my unlucky tentative, so in case i guess i can try to restore those.

Hi,

do I still keep all my translations and all pages translated as they are?

Yes, all translation content is still available on your site.

Regarding the error message, from WPML 4.5, the plugin Translation Management is merged into WPML core. That means you only need to activate the WPML plugin and delete the Translation Management plugin.

Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks

Ok, now i've restored the back up on my site, so the translations are still there for this reason. But if i have understood correctly, if i do the procedure step by step i don't loose the translations.

About the fact that the Translation Management plugin is now included into WPML core plugin, how does this change the procedure i ahve to do? I explain:

As shown in the uploaded pic, i have those 3 plugins, the core one WPML Multilingual CMS and the other 2. Now, before doing the repetitive procedure where i have to pause and delete the WPML Multilingual CMS plugin and download the newer version ecc, shall i pause and delete once and forever the WPML String Translation plugin and the WPML Translation Management plugin ?

Sorry, maybe are dumb questions but i want to be sure.

Thanks

Hi,

shall I pause and delete once and forever the WPML String Translation plugin and the WPML Translation Management plugin?

No, you need to keep using the plugin WPML String Translation and update it to the new version. Just delete the plugin WPML Translation Management.

Thanks.

Hi,

this evening i've tried the procedure and i was able to update my version from 4.2.6 to 4.4.12 but i couldn't go any higher because when i tried to upload the 4.5.0 version (that is a major version), after more than 15 seconds that the page load, i receive the message in the screenshot attached, that says "the link you have followed has expired" and the blue button "try again", brrings me back to WordPress plugin page where the plugin has not been uploaded.

On thing i've noticed is that untill 4.4.12 version, the size of the zip file was around 6MB, but from 4.5.0 is around 11MB, maybe the connection canno't upload in time that size before expiring. My guess.

I've also tried to upload the folder of the 4.5.0 version in the plugin folder through FTP, but the plugin is not seen in WordPress dashboard.

Can you help?

On another topic, i've also updated the WP_MEMORY_LIMIT to 128MB as you adviced.

Thanks

Hi,

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. It would be better to have a testing site where the issue is replicated. Your next reply is set to private to share the info.

❌ IMPORTANT: Please backup your database and website before proceeding ❌
You can use this plugin to create the backup: https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/
✙ I would need your permission to de-activate and re-activate Plugins and the Theme to change configurations on the site if needed. This is also a reason the backup is critical.

Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks

Sure no problem, it would be better to do all these operations on the testing site.

I've asked my hosting provider and he allows me to have testing site, the only thing is that today is my last working day before holidays. I will be back on 26th.

Would it be possible to freeze this ticket and continue by then?

Sorry
