Background of the issue:
I installed the WPML plugin on my website hidden link and deactivated it afterward. After that, I added pages and products. When I activated the WPML plugin again, all those pages and products didn't show anymore.

Symptoms:
Pages and products added after deactivating WPML are not visible after reactivating the plugin, although the number of pages is visible in the information bar.

Questions:
Why are the pages and products not showing after reactivating WPML?
How can I make the pages and products visible again with WPML activated?

Hi,

thanks for contacting us.

What you're experiencing is normal. During the setup wizard, WPML assigns a language code to all content. However, if you created content while WPML was deactivated, it couldn’t receive this code. Now that WPML is active again, that content is in a sort of limbo—it exists, but you can’t see it because it has no language code assigned.

To solve the issue, go to WPML > Support > troubleshooting and click on "Set language information". Note: All content without a language code will automatically be set to the default language.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting the support, I'm assigned this ticket and 'll try my best to help you resolve the issue.

Before proceeding further, please provide the debug information of your website for an overview of your setup. See https://wpml.org/faq/provide-debug-information-faster-support/ for more information.

I've enabled the debug information section for your next reply.

Additionally you can also take a look at https://wpml.org/faq/checklist-before-opening-a-ticket-in-wpml-support/ and cross-check for a few initial fixes.

Thank you for the information.

I need to take a closer look at your site. So I request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP), preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated.

Your next answer will be private, to share this information safely.

Also provide detailed steps to reproduce the issue and links to pages in the admin and on the frontend.

IMPORTANT: Please take a complete backup of the site to avoid data loss. I may need to activate/deactivate plugins also.

See https://wpml.org/purchase/support-policy/privacy-and-security-when-providing-debug-information-for-support/ for details on privacy and security.

P.S.: If you don't see the section for providing access information, do not write in the message box or the information may appear as public.

Thank you for the access, I quickly checked by activating WPML and can see the problem. However, there's an Internal Server Error (500) being thrown during activation and while trying to access the products (after activating WPML plugins).

I suspect there's something causing a conflict and I need to check by deactivating all other plugins and switching the theme. Since this is a live site, it is not recommended and may result in loss of data.

Do you have a test or staging site available or can create one by copying this site? So the issue can be reproduced and investigated there, without compromising the live site.

I've enabled your next reply as private again, to share the access to a test/staging site.

Please let me know.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

I checked for the issue in much detail and found the following errors in debug.log, when WPML is active:

This happens when trying to access products:

While the following is happening when trying to "Set Language Information" in WPML Troubleshooting Options:

[12-Feb-2025 05:31:57 UTC] WordPress database error Commands out of sync; you can't run this command now...

That error is a database + server issue, almost all the time it's because the database is missing the right configuration in the tables.

Please ask your hosting about this and ask them if they can check that all the tables have auto increment where "ID" elements exist but in general to check the database (logs) they might have in the server.

Sometimes a "repair database" can be helpful. While, I've checked WPML tables which look fine.

Please check this thread out: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/3632075/why-is-mysqli-giving-a-commands-out-of-sync-error

Out of sync errors are not really "WPML errors" but I can see why these problems could happen when WPML was making some database calls.

There are times when the site needs to make a lot of database calls, maybe just for a moment (when you update a plugin, or there are new things on the site, for example).

As you could see in the thread, this error happens when new queries are sent when old ones haven't finished yet. This could mean so many things:

- The hosting has a restriction on queries per second which makes the queries behave slower than what it needs. you could try your hosting about query limits, database restrictions, etc.

- The site has some cache and is trying to run queries of things it had already processed. flushing the cache on the server and the site would help here.

- There are simply too many queries that your server can't handle at the moment

- The server could be overloaded or your plan doesn't have enough resources to handle all these queries.

Please feel free to share your findings after checking with your hosting/service provider.

P.S.:
- I've activated all the plugins, except WPML, after investigation.
- I've also switched back to your theme.
- I added a file manager and database manager plugin to check for the issue, which have been deactivated now.
- I've also updated WPML plugins to the latest versions.
