Background of the issue:
I am trying to replace images on a translated page without affecting the original language's images. I am working on the Japanese site of hidden link, specifically on the homepage where there is a carousel with the title 'Smartest X in the world'.

Symptoms:
When I upload a new translated page, the images often don't load or are not editable. If I try to change them to a different image than the original source file, it doesn't work or leaves the image section blank.

Questions:
Do I need the WPML Media Translation feature to replace images on translated pages?
Is the WPML Media Translation feature included in my current plan?

Hello,

WPML by default will use the same image in all languages.

You will need to use WPML Media Translation to upload alternative images in different languages.
