Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate the page hidden link using the Elementor Editor instead of the WPML translation tool. However, the page keeps resetting to Danish.

Symptoms:
The translated page keeps returning to the original language, Danish, despite multiple attempts to fix it.

Questions:
Why is the translated page resetting to Danish?
Is using the Elementor Editor instead of the WPML translation tool causing this issue?

Hello,

Thanks for contacting us.

While you wait for my colleague to take over the ticket, let me try to help you with the issue quickly.

Please make sure you have set to use WordPress editor for that page, since you can not mix methods. If you still have set WPML editor, it will keep reverting manual added content.

Drazen

Oh - so setting it for "All pages" can cause issues, if I understand you correctly?

Hi there,

Setting it for all pages would apply to all of them, I believe my colleague assumed that there are pages you would like to use the WPML Editor, if that's not the case then applying to all pages is OK.

Do keep in mind though that for best results it's best to use one editor and not to mix the two together.

Let me know your results, please.

I did set the entire page to being editable with the WordPress editor - and still it defaults back to the main language seemingly for no reason I can deduct. Not even after editing the main language page connected to it - which is why I find it quite weird! 🙂

Am I able to reproduce this? Please share with me which page and the steps I can take to reproduce the issue.

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to test the issue.
(preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible)

**Before we proceed It is necessary to take FULL BACKUP of your database and your website. Providing us with access, you agree that a backup has been taken **

I often use the Duplicator plugin for this purpose: http://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/
You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply.
The information you enter is private which means only you and I have access to it.

NOTE: If access to the live site is not possible and the staging site does not exist please provide me with a duplicator package created with the duplicator plugin.

Thank you,
Bobby

I have no idea how to reproduce it to be honest - it just sort of happens. I tried to check logs if the original pages that were reversed had been edited, but they had not. So honestly I'm as much on bare feet as you!
We sadly does not have a staging site, so I will have to give you access to the live site, if you need to check anything. But if you need to dig deeper and need to turn stuff off, we might have to need to coordinate it!

No need to turn anything off but I will need a page where I can try to reproduce it with, if you could provide me with one you would rather me test if not I can always migrate a copy to our staging servers with Cloudways.

I re enabled the acces request.

If possible please adjust my access as I do not have access to the pages and posts.

Weird - you are set to have full Admin access. What does it say on your end?

ATE editor with the automatic translation is used.

Translate Everything Automatically is off.

Danish is the default language.

Wordpress editor is correctly chosen.

6 days ago, I can see when I review the Elementor history feature that the version was using Danish.

is it possible that somebody clicked on the "overwrite" button which would essentially copy over the default language to the translation.

Another theory:

Is it possible that somebody used this workflow.

- Create the page in Danish
- Click on the + icon to add the German translation OR duplicate
- Skip the step that's required to stop the sync between Danish and new German page
- Edit with Elementor --> add the German content -> publish
- Content is now showing in Danish.

I can see it has defaulted to danish again some days ago.
I'm not entirely sure those might be the issue - if content is added in german, and published (and shows in german) but then becomes danish later, would that be caused by that issue?

I dont believe anyone would overwrite it - it is only me and another user who has access to the pages, and after translation we do not really touch the pages.

It is super weird!

"if content is added in german, and published (and shows in german) but then becomes danish later, would that be caused by that issue?"

Yes, since Danish is the default language if there is a synchronization or an overwrite button was clicked it would do that.

The only way to ensure that this does not happen is to make sure that the WP editor is selected and used for this page/post without switching back and forth from WP editor and ATE editor.

For example:

IF you add content in German and update.

Then a few days later you use the ATE editor or auto translation for any reason the content in German will be overwritten.

These 2 methods do not communicate between each other.
