[Waiting for user feedback] Automatic translation recognizes wrong language
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
WordPress 6.7 has introduced a new issue that impact translations, please update WooCommerce and WPML to the latest versions before you report issues. More about this here - https://wpml.org/errata/php-error-wp-6-7-notice-function-_load_textdomain_just_in_time-was-called/
Background of the issue:
I am trying to use the automatic translation feature via the Pay-As-You-Go plan for automatic translation on my site hidden link.
Symptoms:
The 'Translate Automatically' button in the ATE is disabled with no indication as to why.
Questions:
Why is the 'Translate Automatically' button disabled?
How can I enable the 'Translate Automatically' button again?
The automatic translation failed, with a majority of the text being in French with a few English sentences peppered throughout.
I translated, saved to translation memory often throughout the process, and completed the translation. Updated the article. Waited for the cache to clear to load the front end to find that it was still showing up as part French part English.
When I went back to WPML, sections of the article had reverted to French. Sometimes mid sentence. Translated it again. Saved to translation memory, completed translation. Updated the article and waited another 40 minutes for the cache. The front end still wasn’t reflecting my work.
Checked WPML for a third time to find that a section or two were coming up orange, meaning as unsaved blocks. Re-saved them. Saved to translation memory, completed the translation, updated the article. In this case the third time was the charm and it seems to have worked. The process took 3.5 hours, where normally it takes 45min-1 hour for an article of this length.
Other articles sometimes require 4 or even five translations. Please help.
I need to be able to reproduce the issue, so I can investigate it. Please send me a concrete example where this is happening, so I can verify it. FUrthermore, tell me step-by-step how I can reproduce the issue myself.
I created a test page in your website (and deleted it), and the translation worked flawlessly. Making small changes in the translation and reverting them in the page you sent, also worked flawlessly in the first try.
If possible, please send me a screen recording showing the issue. Please use Loom to do so: hidden link
Thank you so much for sharing the video and the examples. I'm getting a second opinion with our devs and will get back to you as soon as I hear from them. Thank you.
An update from the content team: deactivating WPML AI (beta) Automatic translation seems to have solved this problem. We didn't activate this feature (it appears to have been automatically activated at the last plugin update).
We are waiting on Monday to confirm this with our other authors.
