Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate one page automatically using WPML. I select the page and press the 'Start translating' button, but it keeps loading. This issue also occurs when I access Translation Management. The plugin takes a long time to load anything. Link to a page where the issue can be seen: hidden link

Symptoms:
The interface is stuck on loading when I try to translate a page or access Translation Management. I expected it to load so I can translate the pages, but instead, I get a loading page that doesn't end.

Questions:
Why does the WPML plugin keep loading when I try to translate a page?
How can I resolve the issue of the Translation Management page taking too long to load?

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. It would be better to a testing site where the issue is replicated.

You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Maybe I'll need to replicate your site locally. For this, I’ll need to temporarily install a plugin called “Duplicator” or "All in One WP Migration" on your site. This will allow me to create a copy of your site and your content. Once the problem is resolved I will delete the local site. Let me know if this is ok with you.

IMPORTANT

- Please make a backup of site files and database before providing us access.
- If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box. The private box looks like this:

Hello,

I downloaded a copy of your website and installed it locally. In this local copy, the translations are being automatically updated without any issues. This indicates that there is some problem or misconfiguration on your server, as this is the only difference between my local copy and your live site.

In this case, I recommend that you contact your hosting provider and explain the situation. If you wish, I have already prepared a message for you:

---

"Hello,

I am experiencing issues with external automatic translation done by WPML on my website. When I make I send content for external automatic translation, the translations get stuck at 0% and don't finish. I created a local copy of my site for analysis, and the error does not occur there. This indicates to me that there might be something in this server causing this behavior, is the local copy is identical.

Please provide any relevant information, such as server error logs or anything else that might be related to this issue. I am already in contact with the WPML support team."

---

Please bring their response back to me so I can continue investigating. The goal here is to obtain relevant information about the issue.

Hello, i got an answer back. Let me know what do you think and what should be the best option for us!

"Hello,

I don't think the issue is with the server itself. It's just that it's secured, has a firewall, and you can't do whatever you want, unlike a locally installed server where security settings are minimal or non-existent.

In many cases, some plugins use connections or processes that are restricted on the server for security reasons.

I cannot send the error log because it is way too large.

I believe you have access to cPanel, where you can view the error log in the logs folder in the root (check the file democracycenter_ro.php.error.log).

You can also see site traffic/access in Raw Access from cPanel.

In the Security section, there's a ModSecurity module that can be disabled for testing, but I do not recommend leaving the site without this module activated.

At the same time, I've noticed errors related to execution timeouts or insufficient memory. These values can be modified in MultiPHP INI Editor for the domain democracycenter.ro.

Now, regarding the translation. From what I see, the module should translate the site, and the translation should be recorded in the database. So, the module only needs to function when there is content to be translated, not constantly.

You could try either disabling ModSecurity from cPanel until the translation is done and reactivating it afterward or, if it works locally, doing the larger translation locally and then uploading the files and database to the server.

Please let me know how the issue progresses. If the firewall is blocking connections, I will need the blocked IPs to whitelist them on the server. The firewall is applied generally to the server, not just for democracycenter.ro, and without knowing the exact IP causing the issue, it is difficult to identify which connection should be whitelisted."

Hey there,

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. There are a few things we can try.

1. Please contact your hosting provider and request that they whitelist the following domains:

wpml.org
cdn.wpml.org
api.wpml.org
api.toolset.com
cloudfront.net

After that, check WPML again.

In case the behavior is the same:
2. Temporarily disable ModSecurity for testing.

After deactivating it, check WPML. Let me know how it goes. The idea here is to find what's causing the behavior you're seeing. You can re-activate it afterwards.
______

Other than that, please share with me the server error log, the "democracycenter_ro.php.error.log" they mentioned. You can paste it on https://pastebin.com/ and share the link with me.

I'll wait your feedback.
