This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client was trying to update the WPML plugin to version 4.6.13 on a live site but encountered issues due to an inactive license and was unsure how to proceed with the update.
Solution:
We recommended a manual update procedure. First, we advised the client to create a full backup of the website. Then, deactivate and delete the current WPML plugins. The next step is to manually download the latest versions from the WPML account downloads page (https://wpml.org/account/downloads/). After downloading, navigate to the website's backend, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin, and then upload, install, and activate each plugin one by one. If the WPML plugin was previously registered, it might have been possible to update directly from the Plugins > Add New > Commercial tab by checking for updates.

If this solution does not resolve the issue or seems outdated, or if it does not apply to your case, we highly recommend checking the related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If problems persist, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum for further assistance.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to update the WPML plug in to 4.6.13 on the live site. We actively use WPML on the staging site. URL: hidden link

Symptoms:
The license is inactive, and I am unsure how to proceed with the update.

Questions:
How do I update WPML when the license is inactive?
Should I deactivate WPML?
Should I push the pages from Staging to Live?

Hi there.

I'm not sure how old the WPML version is on your website.

My recommendation is that we go with a manual update procedure.

I recommend that you first create a full website backup and then remove the plugins completely (deactivate and delete) > then manually download the latest version from here (https://wpml.org/account/downloads/ - select "Download WPML manually" then download all the plugins and add-ons that you need) > then go to your website's backend > Plugins > Add new > Upload plugin > then upload and install + activate each of the plugins, one bu one.

This way (going with a manual update), things should work fine.

If you had the WPML plugin registered on the site already, you might have been able to just go to Plugins > Add new > Commercial tab > click on "check for updates" and then update from there if the WPML version is not super old.

Please let me know how things go.

Hello,

I followed a different procedure: I made sure our staging site was where it needed to be and pushed to live (live being ifcsn.org).

The plug in is now at the later version, but when transferring WPML credits I received the error message included in the image I uploaded.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Mihai,

Thank you for your message. I apologize for not creating a new ticket with the new issue. Thank you for making the debug information private. Creating a new ticket would also have given me the place where to insert the debug information in a more private setting to begin with.

I do think that the two issues are somewhat connected. I will now open a new ticket with the new issue.

Thank you for your help and patience.
