Hi there

I use automatic translation and found around 150 articles that were not translated correctly.

This article, for example, I translated from English to German. URL, title, and meta description is translated; the content, however, is still in English

I opened ATE and made sure that the translation is finished 100%

For some reason, the content is still in English.

What is the best way to update all 150+ articles?

Thank you

Tim

Hi there,

Thanks for contacting WPML support.

We'd need to check why the translation is not working on the contents.

Could you please try making minor edits to the primary language page and see if it refreshes the Advanced Translation Editor?

Then, try translating it and see if it fixes it.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

Thank you for your reply!

That worked for most articles!!!

The French version of this one; however, is still not translated. I made minor edits to the English version, deleted the french version and translated it again, etc. Nothing has worked.

Any idea what else we could try?

Thanks

Tim

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply.

I would need to take a closer look at your site. So I would need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible in order to be of better help and check if some configurations might need to be changed

IMPORTANT: Please, note, a backup is required for security reasons, and to avoid any data loss, you can use the https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/plugin for these backup needs.

Your following answer will be private, which means only you and I have access to it.

✙ I would need your permission to de-activate and re-activate Plugins and the Theme and to change configurations on the site if required. This is also a reason the backup is critical.

Also, I checked your debug information, I noticed that your MySQL version is below the plugin minimum requirements as described at: https://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements/ . Kindly contact your hosting provider and ask them to update the MySQL version to 5.6+ for you.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply.

We can take some measures to improve the performance of a website running with WPML.

Here is the general Doc you should follow but based on the debug information you shared I can see that you are using the latest WPML plugins and the latest PHP version. You may like to update the MySQL version to 5.6+ and try a cache plugin:
=> https://wpml.org/faq/prevent-performance-issues-with-wpml/

Please try following the instructions in the following Doc to ensure MySQL queries are optimized.
=> https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-optimize-mysql-queries/

Here is the general article that should help you to know how you can boost the WPML performance:
=> https://wpml.org/ja/tutorials/2022/03/boosting-the-performance-of-your-multilingual-wordpress-site/

As for the French translation issue, I've checked and it looks like the contents are not being translated as shown in the attached. It seems to me like the contents are just being copied over.

Could you check?

Thanks!

Hi Kor

Thank you!! I'll forward this info to my developer.

How can we solve this problem? Anything we can do to reduce the size of the translation tables?

The core problem that I am not sure how we get around is the sheer volume of data on your U-T site. That site has about 5.7GB of data on disk; 1.9GB of that is in a table called wp_rfGT5icl_translate, with another 833M in wp_rfGT5icl_translation_status.

It seems to me like the contents are just being copied over.
I definitely used the translation feature; I actually tried it twice, the same way as I did a few hundred times before without problems.

Thanks

Tim

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply.

Could you please try the method here https://wpml.org/errata/reducing-size-of-icl_translate_job-icl_translate-and-other-wpml-tables/ and see if it helps reduce the size of your database?

Here is the plugin mentioned hidden link

As for the translation issue, have you tried manually correcting the translation in the "Advanced Translation Editor" and see if it reflects the changes on the frontend?

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

Hi Kor

You said: You may like to update the MySQL version to 5.6+

That's what Agathon said:

you're running MariaDB version 10.4.14 just fyi (MariaDB is a pretty standard faster lighter weight version of MySQL). If you were wanting that updated, I'm sure we could make that happen, but just wanted to be clear about what you're clearly running.

Is that ok or should we update?

Thanks

Tim

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply.

MariaDB is fine, and you can safely ignore the reading from the WPML > Support section.

Thanks!

Hi Kor

Ok, thanks!

I just found a thread from 2022 in which someone from your team recommends the following to solve the server timeout problem. Do you still recommend it?

max_input_vars to 20000
and
max_allowed_packet to 20M

I still have the problem that the server is down all the time, and I cannot save edited posts, etc.

Thanks

Tim

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply.

I can see that you have the minimum requirements needed to run WPML. You need to check with your hosting provider if you're still getting timeouts. Usually, the server will show what's going on .

Thanks!

Kor
