I need change main language on site - site was copied from another. And on that new site i need use new language which i want to translate to another (third) language
I need to add a translation from a language that was not my primary language before. Unfortunately, after changing the language settings, the translation still takes the previously set main language of the page as the main one.
Example:
- the website was prepared as Danish,
- then added English language and added translations,
- the next step is to copy this page and add a third language (Polish - although it shouldn't matter what),
- changing the main language of the website from Danish to English,
- when trying to work with translations, the base translation is Danish, and we need to base it on the English version according to the main language setting of the site
Languages: English (English )Spanish (Español )German (Deutsch )
Timezone: America/Lima (GMT-05:00)
Hello,
There is a manual way to achieve this - let me explain in detail.
In the right sidebar of the WordPress Editor in the section "Language" you will find fields for the contents language options.
Now, on the original content "Danish" you will see the option for enabling and disabling the WPML Translation Editor - this option only appears on the original content, as WPML always translates from original content to a second language.
On translate content instead, you should see a field "This is a translation of".
So, what you would need to do now, is open your English translations on the WordPress Editor, and there where it says "This is a translation of" change the option so that the content is not longer connected to any other content.
After that, a new option will appear in the sidebar, that will allow you to connect the content with other content.
Next, connect the content again between English and Danish and a Dialog will Pop-Up and ask you if English should be assigned as the content's default language.
Now, your English content should be the original and Danish translation.
