This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem:
The client needed to change the default language settings in WPML from English to French after mistakenly setting it up incorrectly. They also faced issues with WPML not allowing changes after attempting to uninstall and reinstall the plugin.
Solution:
If you have not yet done any translations, we recommend fully uninstalling WPML by following the steps in this guide: Deleting languages and plugin data by doing a WPML reset.
If you have already translated content, you should either:
1. Delete the translated content and then follow the steps in the guide mentioned above.
2. Change the default language of the site by following the instructions in this forum post: Changing the default language and language directories.
If this solution does not apply to your case, or if it seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Should you need further assistance, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.
