Background of the issue:
I am using WPML for the first time to perform automatic translations. I need to translate 1000 products from Slovenian to Croatian on my site hidden link. Before translating the products, I want to ensure that the product categories, including their descriptions, are translated so that products are placed in the correct translated categories.

Symptoms:
I can't find how to translate categories, including descriptions, automatically.

Questions:
Do I need to translate categories manually, including descriptions, before translating products automatically?
Can I translate categories automatically, including descriptions, and then proceed to translate products?

Lookig at this
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-post-categories-and-custom-taxonomies/

But if I try to translate categories I can only filter products

Hello,

The categories that are not yet translated, will be translated together with the products.

You can afterwards sync taxonomies at WPML > Taxonomy Translation, once all products have been translated.

The only alternative way to translate all categories in one step, would be to assign all categories to one product and send this product to automatic translation.

Best regards
Andreas

ok, that works even better I guess. And I can fix category translations afterwards without a hassle?

Yes, WPML does track this and realizes if taxonomies are out of sync.

In cases where taxonomies are not synced as expected, you will see a sync button available at the bottom of the section inside WPML > Taxonomies Translation when selecting a taxonomy to translate.

Regarding posts, I have all the posts already translated on some other website so I'd rather use those instead of use automatic translations. I have wp all import with wpml addon. Is this the best move to migrate them and link translations to existing posts?

Yes, you can use WP All Import to import your translations into the new site.

I would suggest using our new addon "WPML Export & Import" as the old addon "WPML All Import" is outdated and has various unresolved known issues.

Guide:
https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/wpml-export-and-import/

You can download the addon at Plugins > Add new on the "Commercial" tab.

If you also plan to import categories for those posts, we recommend running first the import of the categories and after that importing the posts.
