Background of the issue:
I have a Swiss German site and added English using auto translation. I was trying to add English without affecting the original German content.
If i open the page in editor and click into a text field i see my original text. If i press save i don't see it.

Symptoms:
After adding English, my German text got edited unexpectedly.

Questions:
Why did my German text get edited after adding English?
How can I prevent auto translation from altering my original content?

Hello,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. I will do my best to help you to resolve the issue.

Does it happen with multiple posts or pages? Please create a new simple post or page for testing in German language, and check if the problem exists or not.

It will be great if you can share a couple of screenshots or a screencast (screencapture of the issue, you can share it via Google Drive) for a better understanding of the bug.

Hi Bigul

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, it unfortunately happens on multiple pages. Here's a little screencast of the problem: hidden link

The text (that is in Elementor) "Entdecke die Stadt spielerisch" is correct. However, the website shows "Entdecken Sie die Stadt spielerisch" instead and I cannot remove it. I assume it was automatically translated to this, which I never wanted.

Thanks and best,
Olivier

Hi Olivier,

Thank you for the updates. One doubt. The default language of the site is Swiss German, but it is translated from English using WPML Automatic Translation, am I correct?

If so, does it show the same results in WPML Advanced Translation Editor screen also? Please check if you can update it from Translation Editor or not. Refer to the following links to know more details about the Advanced Translation Editor screen.

If the problem remains, it will be great if you can share the exact steps you are doing for the following. It will help us to track the issue.

I was trying to add English without affecting the original German content.

Hi Bigul

Thanks for getting back to me.
Originally the site was in German, so this is the master language. Then I've installed WPML and added English. "Translate everything" was on. However, there was an error from the AI Engine that said that it cannot be translated yet from German to English. So I've activated Deepl and then everything was automatically translated. And it worked, the English got translated correctly. However, my German got also affected as seen in the video. I want my original German text back for all my pages.

Best,
Olivier

Hi Olivier,

Thank you for the updates. Please try the following steps after a site backup, and make sure the bug exists or not.

1) Visit WPML>>Translation Management Dashboard and disable *Automatic Translation* like the attached image
2) Edit a German page and check it shows the expected results or not
3) Create a Page in German for testing
4) Update it and save, then check it shows the expected results or not

Hi Bigul

I followed the steps, but unfortunately it still doesn't work. I turned off automatic translations. If I adjust and save an existing German page, nothing changes. If I create a new page in German and save, then the text stays the same. But this doesn't help me, as my old pages still show the wrong text...

Best,
Olivier
