I am trying to: We are trying to use the WPML Multilingual CMS on a new sub-site on our multi site. We have followed the directions (https://wpml.org/documentation/support/multisite-support/#using-languages-in-domains-on-multisite) regarding the setup of the sunrise file, however we found that we are unable to login to the site via /wp-admin when the plugin is activated. When the plugin is activated we are seeing our splash page appear on the login page.

Link to a page where the issue can be seen: hidden link

I expected to see: When WPML is activated we'd hope that other site admin could login to the site using the hidden link

Instead, I got: The splash page loading on the wordpress login.

Here is a video of what we are experiencing: hidden link

Hello!

I'll help you get started while a supporter takes your case:

1) WPML needs a minimum of 128MB of memory to work correctly and it seems you are not meeting this requirement.

Kindly add this code into your wp-config.php file, right after the database information:

define ('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');
define ('WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');

2) It seems the video was deleted so i couldn't watch it 🙁 do you happen to have a copy?

3) What WP version are you using on your site? if you are using version 6.5.x, please update WPML to version 4.6.10 and its addons to the latest releases.

4) You mention you can't access the WP-ADMIN and the links you shared are basically telling the site to redirect to a different domain, which happens to be exactly the same, but you mentioned that you want to use different domains per languages so which domains are you using or configuring?

Let us know so we can understand how to continue.

Hello Alejandro,

1 - I will have the team try this suggestion.

2- Here is the video: hidden link

3 - We are on the latest version of WordPress, 6.5.2

4 - This domain, hidden link, is part of a multi-site. The other live domain on the site that is using WPML is thesnoreshop.ca.

When the WMPL plugin is active on hidden link, we are in another browser/incognito window, unable to access the /wp-admin. If we still have the admin open in our original browser and we turn off the WPMPL plugin, the /wp-admin in the other browser/incognito window resolves normally, and the other staff can log in.

Hi,

I'll continue to help you with this issue.

Thanks for the video. It always helps to understand the problem better.

You wrote: "4 - This domain, hidden link, is part of a multi-site. The other live domain on the site that is using WPML is thesnoreshop.ca."

However, I can see that hidden link has its installation of WPML. Using the Language Switcher, I can toggle between English and French on the same site.

Alejandro, my colleague, asked the question: what is the other domain you want to use for the second language on hidden link?

We still have no answer to this from you.

Moreover, according to the debug information you attached, you configured this site (hidden link) to use the Language URL format" Language name added as a parameter". This is set in WPML -> Languages -> Language URL format. You must change the Language URL format to "A different domain per language". You can read about this option here.

https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-url-options/#a-different-domain-per-language

You must also configure the DNS server accordingly. Please read our guide on how to achieve it here.

https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-url-options/how-to-use-wpml-with-different-domains-per-language/

If you do not intend to use the "A different domain per language" format, you don't need the sunrise.php plugin. Therefore, remove it, and things should work.

In any case, please be aware of our statement in the guide about multisite + WPML + Subsites in subdomains + languages in domains.

Subsites in subdomains + languages in domains (e.g. subsite.fr.test.com) is possible as long as the domain is properly pointed via DNS entry and it does not conflict with another subsite. However, this setup relies on experimental logic and may be prone to bugs.

Regards,
Itamar.
