This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:

The links in the categories of my translated pages are not working. When I click on a link, it doesn't lead to the corresponding translated page but to a 404 error page.

Solution:

As you use the Yoast SEO plugin, you need to install and setup the WPML SEO plugin for compatibility.

Hello

All the catgories of my translated site (in all languages), are broken (according to Ubersuggest tool); and indeed, there was an issue for some time now:
when you visit a category url, in any language (besides english), it says page not found, no posts found.

Could you please check what is going on? Because I don't remember deleting any of those categories.

Let me know

Hi there,

Would you please follow the steps below to see if there is no sync problem?

https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-post-categories-and-custom-taxonomies/#synchronizing-hierarchical-taxonomies

Also do the troubleshooting steps below:

- IMPORTANT STEP! Create a backup of your website. Or better approach will be to test this on a copy/staging version of the website to avoid any disruption of a live website.
- Go to "WordPress Dashboard > WPML > Support > Troubleshooting (link)".
- Click the buttons annotated in the screenshot below one by one and wait for each button process to finish:

Finally:

- Go to "WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks".
- Click the "Save" button to flush the permalinks cache.

See if it works for you.

Thanks.

I followed all steps (everything was already as it should be)

No luck, same problem.

I just remember that I removed the string componenet of your plugin (for speed purposes); but I saw that it's important for taxonomies; So, I reinstalled it, activated it, Then I followed the steps above.

Nothing changed. Any other course of action?

Hi there,

Thank you for following the steps.

I'd appreciate it if you could give me the URL/User/Pass of your WordPress dashboard after you make sure that you have a backup of your website.
It is absolutely important that you give us a guarantee that you have a backup so if something happens you will have a point of restore.

Make sure you set the next reply as private.

Hi again,

I need to update my site (post content, etc.); but I can't do it while you're still working on it (in case I need to restore a backup):

Could you please give this priority and fix it asap? I appreciate it

Hi there,

Thank you for providing the login information and your patience.

The problem is fixed. The issue was that you use the Yoast SEO plugin and that plugin needs the WPML SEO plugin to be compatible.

I installed that plugin and set it up according to the documentation below:

https://wpml.org/documentation/plugins-compatibility/using-wordpress-seo-with-wpml/

Thank you.
