In addition to the points above.. Any idea from your end? I figured, maybe if we can remove everything and just re-create the header and nav menu, it will start working the same for all translations. Let me know your thoughts! Thanks |

1) The "core/link" tag content you see there is the name of the navigation menu, the label. In general they do not appear because they inherit the name from the actual page title. However they appear when you create a specific "menu" with some content and modify the text. 2) String translation wasn't there before because you didn't have the plugin. I installed it for you because you need it in order to have any type of slug/link translation and to work with page builders in general. 3) I like the Idea of removing the header and adding it again because everytime I access your site I see something different which is confusing me and preventing me from being helpful 🙁 However I can't delete any header, Any template, the navigation I see is a button so I'm a bit lost here. 4) Everytime I access the site I see soemthing different which makes things confusing. Fo this I tried to take one header that was there and follow all the steps to translate the content: hidden link I did it first on a sandbox where things were clearer to me and then on your site and you can see it worked. 5) There's a header in french that I could see but not delete. You need to disable the WPML plugins and then go to the full site editor and that will help you. I could reset it so I did that which you can see here: hidden link Then went and added the language switcher and translated everything and it worked. All that's left to do now is modify the menu to your liking, then check if there's a new navigation appearing in WPML > Translation management and translate that first. once translated, translate the template part, then the template if you see it (there wasn't anything right now because WP was taking care of that). Can you try that for now and see if it works for you? |

Amazing, it started to work!! And thanks for sharing your process. It's both good to learn something as well as to see that you're just as confused by the shenanigans as I have been. So, I noticed that indeed the header was good, with navigation correctly working and language selector in there as well. Then I tried to style the header, but actually noticed opening the header from the Pattern section was giving it to me in French -> strange because I've been editing out of Dutch as default language. Anyway, it didn't work correctly, so I did like you, deactivated the plugins, removed/resetted all excess patterns it created and then reactivated the plugins. So now everything seems good and clear, so I go to the editor -> patterns, again. I open the Header (there's only 1 there which is good!). I see that it's now Dutch, which is also convincing we're on the right track, I change the styling, save it. Then go to translation management so I can translate the changed header and the changes will show on the french and english pages as well. But there I can't actually translate anything..? English I can actually select, and I did, assigned it for translation, then translated it, but it was empty, no translations needed. I did save it, then checked on the website, but nothing changed there neither. For French I couldn't even select it (see screenshot) because it says it was created in that language before. Even though I reset everything w plugins deactivated and then did everything from the Dutch header pattern. So anyway, now I'm here: Dutch website works great, header is perfect. Nav menu works. But I can't get it working on the French and English website. Could you maybe take a look at it and see if you can get it to work like the Dutch header across all languages? Thanks! |

Unbelievable Alejandro, but I got it to work. 1 question I have: I saw you do this consistently in your video, but don't know the reason and difference with just picking it up directly instead of assigning it first. Please let me know And many thanks for helping out, in the end I figured it out because of the process I saw you follow in the video. |

Hello! I'm glad you managed to make it work so let me answer your questions: 1) What is the necessity behind going to Translation Management first and assigning an item for translation, instead of just going to translation module directly and clicking the item that I updated? In the past it was just as you described it but WordPress changed many things afterwards and removed the things that were needed for us to allow you to translate the content as you would with a page. that's unfortunately a restriction coming from how WordPress works now, which I know is not ideal. We actually tried finding ways around them but it just didn't work :(. WordPress now "hides" so many things and is going through a phase of really fast and drastic changes so maybe when things settle, we might be able to return to how it was before although I find it highly unlikely. 2) May I know what happened on your end? from your description it looked like you were editing the french menu and I wonder if it was because before going to appearance > Editor, you had the admin language in french (so he "french" flag and language visible on the admin topbar )? otherwise it meant that somehow the "original" language of the menu is actually the french one, but that didn't seem to be the case when I checked the site initially. And yes, right now the entire website building experience from WordPress is a bit "wonky" which makes everything attached to it, harder as well 🙁 but I'm sure things will improve, they have been super fast with the latest WordPress versions. |

Ok great, I will remember to go through the TM module first then before starting to edit anything. I think how the WPML plugin "hides" or how WP now works causing it to hide certain components like headers and navigation menus, this gives a lot of problems with knowing what data is displayed out of where. And when the WPML plugin is activated and you make changes it starts to create all kinds of new components that you can't actually see. Then to answer your question about editing the french menu, I realized I had changed the default page language to french after deactivating and removing the plugins because I was so fed up with it. I came up with another solution with just 2 flags that would show the menu when hovering over. With that solution it was better to display the French site as the main page because very little of our visiters are actually French, so most visitors would go to the flag to change language then see the menu. Anyway, when I realized, I set it back to Dutch, disabled the WPML plugins, removed and reset all the excess components again, then activated the plugin, created the right header/nav menu, configured all as I wanted and then translated those. Finally it worked. Maybe one last thing that you can help me with: Any ideas how to get this fixed? |

This actually happens for everything. what we do is that we create a new content (header, pattern, in this case) and then we "link" it to a language via our DB. it's an approach that works quite well without requiring too much in the compatibility front with WP, however in here the "editor" that WordPress created is the one that hides and makes everything a bit more complicated, because you can't easily switch from one language to another nor have a "graphic interface" for it FROM the actual component 🙁 -------- About the site title, please watch this video: hidden link It's translated from WPML > String Translation, where you will find all the content that is not a "page" so you can't edit directly from the actual page like with patterns and stuff. I Decided to check it first because i suspected that things would be a bit more complicated since for some reason, WordPress now allows you to add the content in one place and then edit it in another which just creates confusion when you have things like WPML since the content from WordPress always comes in English. Anyways I hope things are clear now 🙂 feel free to ask if you have any further questions. Regards. |

The notice you are mentioning is not an error. Can you tell me where could I see that timeline plugin so I inspect it better and try to understand of there's another way to have it translated? However in order to remove that notice about WPML being used, please find the "languages" section and then make sure the option "WordPress editor" is selected instead of the default "translation editor". You'll get a popup on that page with 3 options, you can select the "this page" option to enable the WordPress editor only on that page and you can continue translating it manually if you wish. Nothing wrong will come from what you're doing at the moment, by the way. Regards. |

Just so you know, I'm asking our dev about this. However, we can try to register the plugin so it becomes compatible and then maybe even try to contact the author so they can use that compatibility we made for them for the future 🙂 Let's see what our devs say. |

Hello! You can see that the timeline now works. It needed to be made compatible by following this guide. However it was indeed not the easiest of solutions and I'd suggest that you contact the plugin's author, let them know that they can add the code below to their plugin's repo and it will be made compatible with WPML. If possible invite them to join our compatibility program (we'll try to contact them too) so we can make sure they remain compatible in the future.
