This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The issue is that the English pages, intended as translations of French pages, are incorrectly tagged as French, and the user is unable to change their language tag or link them to the corresponding French pages.

Solution:

Edit the French page on the right sidebar, change the language from French to English.
If unable to change the language, switch to the English translation by using the language switcher at the top header while in the edit page.
Dismiss any warnings and review the language settings to switch the language of the translation.
If the above steps don't work, delete the English version of the pages and then remap the connection.

Hi,

My website main language is French. Before installing WPML and activating it, I had a few pages already written in English as translations of French pages. I would like to link them but the English pages are now tagged as French pages and I can't seem to change their language tag (nor linking them to the French page as translation).

How can I do that?

Example:
French page: hidden link
English page tagged as French: hidden link

Hello,

Yes, that is possible, to do this follow the steps below:

- Go to pages and locate the page under French that should be listed as English and edit
- On the right sidebar notice the Language area
- Change the Language from French to English

Once done review the following documentation on how to now connect the English page to it's translation in French

https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-link-already-translated-pages/

Let me know your results, please.

The thing is, it does not let me change the language. I can only choose French.

I tried to move the automatically created translations to the bin but it does not change anything.

Try this:

While in the edit page use the language switcher at the top header and switch to the translation (EN) [you can Dismiss the warning ]

Now review the language settings and see if you can switch the language of the translation

this will break the connection and you will be able to edit the page again and change it's language.

The reason you cannot at the moment is because it has an existing translation.

Let me know your results, please.

I tried your method and it did not work. Then I deleted the English version of both pages and was able to remap the connection 👍
Thank you!
