Background of the issue:
I want to add a widget in the WPML plugin under languages, so I can later use the shortcode above my menu items. I am working on the site hidden link.

Symptoms:
I am not able to save my input when trying to add a language switcher widget in the WPML plugin under languages. However, I can add a switcher to my menu and save it there.

Questions:
Why can't I save my input when adding a language switcher widget in WPML under languages?
Is there a specific setting I need to adjust to save the language switcher widget?

Hi,

Thank you for contacting the support.

Before proceeding further, can you enable debugging in your site? See https://wpml.org/documentation/support/debugging-wpml/ for details.

Once enabled, retry adding the widget language switcher, so it saves any inline errors in /wp-content/debug.log file. Then you can either grab the last few lines (from end of file) or can upload the debug.log file to somewhere and share the link.

It'd be great if you can record your screen while retrying, so I can observe the details about the issue too.

Please let me know and I'll try my best to further help you on the matter.

Regards.

Hi,

Thank you for your answer. As a total non techy person, this is not so easy.

I changed the FTP files as you asked and tried to use the laguage switcher widget again. Stil I can not use the save button. Only the cancel button is working unfortunately.

In the bug log I only get bug errors from another plugin, but not from WMPL. Maybe that is also correct, as I can not save, but only use cancel to close the field. I made a screenshot of the page I am talking about. At the other areas of the language switcher (like adding the flags to the menu) the button changes if I hover over and I can save it. In the widget area I see it only as in the screenshot.

If you want the bug log anyway, please explain how I can provide it in a way it stays private.

Thanks a lot

Kind regards,
Marije

Thank you for the updates.

I need to take a closer look at your site. So I request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP), preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated.

Your next answer will be private, to share this information safely.

Also provide detailed steps to reproduce the issue and links to pages in the admin and on the frontend.

IMPORTANT: Please take a complete backup of the site to avoid data loss. I may need to activate/deactivate plugins also.

See https://wpml.org/purchase/support-policy/privacy-and-security-when-providing-debug-information-for-support/ for details on privacy and security.

P.S.: If you don't see the section for providing access information, do not write in the message box or the information may appear as public.

Hi waqas,

I tried again and saw I did not put a choice in the widget area. Now I put the sidebar and I can save it.

But... I do not want to use the widget sidebar or footer area. I want to put the translation switcher in a code module in the divibuilder (so I can have the switcher above my menu). So I probably have to use something else then the language switcher widget, but have no clue how to do this. Can you help me out with how I can do this?

Thanks a lot

Marije

Thank you for the updates.

You can use language switcher shortcode to add this to anywhere in your site. Please see https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-switcher-options/adding-language-switchers-using-php-and-shortcodes/ for details.
