This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:

The client is trying to add a string from the Astra theme but encountering issues.

Solution:

First, we recommend increasing the

MaxInputVars

in your PHP settings to

10000

. For guidance on how to do this, please see this article.

If the problem persists, navigate to WPML>>String Translation>>Translate texts in admin screens, and click on the

Export as a WPML Configuration file

button. Copy the resulting code and go to WPML>>Settings>>Custom XML Configuration to paste the code into the

Custom XML Configuration

code editor.
Then, return to WPML>>String Translation to check if the issue is resolved.

For more details, visit this guide and this documentation.

If this solution does not apply to your case, or if it seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Background of the issue:
I am trying to add a string from the Astra theme "Share this article!" to the WPML strings via "Translate texts in admin screens". Link to a page where the issue can be seen: hidden link (see at bottom next to social media icons).

Symptoms:
When I check the box to include the string, it looks like it is added to WPML strings. But when I refresh the page, it is set back to not included. And it is not in WPML strings.

Questions:
Why is the string not being saved in WPML strings after I include it?
How can I ensure the string remains included in WPML strings after refreshing the page?

Hello,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. I will do my best to help you to resolve the issue.

This may be a compatibility issue. Please increase the *MaxInputVars* of PHP settings to *10000* and check if there is any difference in the result. Refer to the following article for more details or contact your system admin/hosting provider.

If the issue exists, select the string from WPML>>String Translation>>Translate texts in admin screens, click on the *Export as a WPML Configuration file* button, and copy the code. Then visit WPML>>Settigs>>Custom XML Configuration and place the code in the *Custom XML Configuration* code editor.

After that visit WPML>>String Transaltion again, and make sure you are getting the expected results or not. Please check the following links for more details.

Hello Bigul,
thank you for your help!

I have requested the MaxInputVars to be raised to 10000. Wait and see.

For now, I have managed to resolve the issue by deleting the string and re-indexing a couple of times.

If it occurs again, I will set it up with the XML configuration as you suggest, that is good advice, thank you.

Kind regards,
Boris
