Problem:
Translate link targets not working. still link to en

Solution:
By default, the Advanced Translation Editor hides URLs from translated material. To translate URLs, you first need to find them using the search. This same method applies to other hidden elements such as shortcodes and custom HTML attributes.

Tell us what you are trying to do?

Is there any documentation that you are following?

Is there a similar example that we can see?

What is the link to your site?

Hi,

Thank you for contacting the support.

I just checked your website (hidden link) and can see the links pointing to the Japanese pages.

Is there any specific page where this is happening? Can you explain the issue in more detail, providing the exact URL(s), screenshots and/or a screen-recording, where it is happening?

Please let me know and I'll try my best to further assist you on the matter.

Regards.

Hi,

Thank you for the updates.

Would you kindly follow the steps mentioned below?

- Go to "WordPress Dashboard > WPML > Settings > Translate Link Targets".
- Click the "Scan now and adjust links" button and wait for the process to finish.

After that kindly do as follows:

- Go to your Dashboard > Pages.
- Open your original page. You should see a pencil in front of every translation.
- Open your translation with our Translation editor.
- Edit it and finish it as it is (mark it as 100% Translated).
- Save it.
- Go back to the original page and make a small change, for example, add an extra blank space at the end of a sentence/paragraph.
- Save it.
- You should now see that a circular arrow appears beside the 2nd languages links, this means that an update is required.
- Edit the translation again and save it up to 100% translated.

Please let me know if this helps resolve the issue. Or I'll try my best to further assist you on the matter.

Regards.

Hi,

Thank you for trying that.

Can you try these troubleshooting options mentioned in this guide https://wpml.org/documentation/support/wpml-troubleshooting-options/ ? Apply the commands from the table one by one and wait for one to finish. And check for the issue before moving to the next.

IMPORTANT: Take full backup of your website and database beforehand. It is highly advised to try these on a staging/dev site first, so your live website isn't compromised.

If this doesn't work, may I ask for admin access to your website to check the issue in detail? You can create a separate admin user for this purpose, which can be deleted afterwards.

Also provide following detail to investigate/observe the issue:

- detailed steps to reproduce the issue
- links to pages in admin and on frontend
- screenshots or screen recording if needed to explain
- any other relevant information to observe/investigate the issue

Remember to take full backup of your website and database before proceeding. However, a staging/test site is highly recommended, because I may need to try some changes/fixes on the site, which may cause conflicts with the live site otherwise. Please confirm it in your next reply or let me know if you do not agree with the mentioned.

I've set your next reply as private to share this information safely.

IMPORTANT: If you don't see the section for providing access information, do not write in the message box or the information may appear as public.

See https://wpml.org/purchase/support-policy/privacy-and-security-when-providing-debug-information-for-support/ for details on privacy and security.

Before continuing on the site, I'll also need your confirmation and approval on each of the followings:

1) Is this a Live/Production or Staging/Dev site?
2) Is it OK to work on this site?
3) Is it OK to try some changes/fixes on the site and/or activate/deactivate/install a plugin on the site, which may cause conflicts with the other parts of the site?
4) Have you taken full backup of your website and database?

Please confirm, thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

I was able to fix the links. Actually this is not an issue but a matter of understanding. You needed to translate the links when updating/editing translation, see attached image.

By default, the Advanced Translation Editor hides URLs from translated material. To translate URLs, you first need to find them using the search. This same method applies to other hidden elements such as shortcodes and custom HTML attributes.

See following guides for details:

- https://wpml.org/announcements/2020/02/translating-links-with-advanced-translation-editor/

Please check hidden link and confirm.

Regards.

Thanks, when I searched for "http" before, for some reason the search didn't show up.

I just tried it and it was added successfully.

My issue is resolved now. Thank you so much.
