Sorry can you please clarify with regards to the linked article https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-translate-all-taxonomy-terms-at-once/. This is for post categories no woocommerce product categories. As advised I created a new dummy product and assigned to all product categories and submitted for automatic translation but this did not work. Please detail exact process. This is on the live site not the dev site you now have access to.

The process is the same for Product categories:
- create a product
- assign all categories to that product
- send to translation

I suppose if in the staging they're translated it's translated on the live site as well, so I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve here. Please create a video so I can better understand.

So the staging site is a copy of the site whichever morning you requested. I have then worked on the live site as not change things on the dev site so you could investigate. Also the dev site I cannot assign to pay as you go translations due to the error message I sent you when I try and do so via tools in translation mamangment section.

So the steps you have list above are as I followed and as per my reply prior. I have tried creating a new dummy product in english and assigning to ALL categories and then sent for translation but now I just adds it the german uncategories category and is not translating. I also tried getting a dutch product and category translated but this does not work either so now the automatic translation of categories has stopped even if i try re-sync products etc and hiearchies etc.

Please attempt to make and translate what you want to test.

My point is: German product categories are already translated, so what should exactly translate? If the translation memory already exist it will use that one, it won't "retranslate" anything

I checked with the "new" category which is not translated in any language and I assigned it to the Test post and it appears in the translation editor, so it can be automatically translated (checked both German and Dutch), see screenshots.

If you don't experience the same on the live site, please provide me credentials for it and the link to the test post and I'll check but again, if the taxonomies are already translated in WPML > Taxonomy Translation it won't retranslate anything.

Ok not sure what is going on here. Or if there is a miss communication.

Can you please assist with this step. Please tell me a way to get WPML to recreate the deleted product categories in German.

Also how I can get WPML to update the translations based on the English version being changed. As this will happen from time to time. Currently I cannot find a way to do either.

If you wish you or I can delete all the German product categories can you can give me instructions on how to do this please.

On the staging, I tried to delete a German product category and then retranslate it with the translation editor, and it works. Please see hidden link

You can open the dummy post translation manually (go to WooCommerce Multilingual > Products and click on the pencil icon under German flag) and see if the translations were done or not.

If they were done but you don't see them, it's due to this bug https://wpml.org/errata/wpml-overwrites-edits-in-the-advanced-translation-editor-for-taxonomies-and-image-texts-translations/

"how I can get WPML to update the translations based on the English version being changed"

You can't do this automatically, due to the bug above. You need to translate from WPML > Taxonomy Translation

So I just followed your video to the letter on live site but the product categories are no recreated on German. So I have deleted all the German product categories on dev site and then created a new test product "Test Recreate DE 27-11-23". I assigned a few categories in english and then translated exactly as you did. Including using ATE, I can see translations as before but it does not create the category. I checked Taxonomy Translation and it shows no translation in German.

Please advised what I am missing?

I need a video of your process or access to the prod site. I can't tell you what's wrong if you say you did the same as me.

If the process is the same than the difference is the site, but since I don't have access I can't tell.

Ok but I have recreated the issue on the dev site for you as mentioned. See "Dummy 27-11-23 12-44". I have just tested on different browser just in case.

Please find screenshots.

The translation is not downloaded (you can see there isn't the pencil icon). Therefore the taxonomy translations are not applied, it's expected.

I'm investigating why it doesn't download, but the translation per se works as it should. Do you see the pencil icon on the prod site?

No it is still the "+" icon.

Then it's not translated at all, and it's normal you don't see the taxonomies translated.

Check the debug.log for any error.

Well I mean it is the same as the dev site. I see the dev site now has all the German categories back. Also I will need information about what you have done on the dev site so I can replicate to the live site. As you have also fixed the error trying to access the tools section of translation management.

In dev site I opened the dummy product and check why it wasn't downloading, nothing else. I might have openend some other product which had the missing category description and that's why it reappears now.

If you really can't get to download the translations I can only offer to check the prod site myself.

Can you please elboarte what you did "check why it wasn't downloading". Can we have a chat session to move forward on this at a quicker pace?
