Problem:
If you're setting up WPML and cannot see the names of the languages to choose (Default language - Translation languages), and activating WPML disrupts the Elementor builder and styles, you might be facing a similar issue.
Solution:
We recommend reactivating WPML along with the WPML setup wizard. The issue with not seeing language names and the disruption of Elementor could be due to a stuck key in the "icl_admin_messages" table in your database. Removing this key should resolve the problem. If the styling issues persist after this fix, it's advisable to address them in a separate support ticket.

Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket.

Background of the issue:
I am setting up WPML on a site under development. From the beginning of the setup, I am unable to see the names of the languages to choose (Default language - Translation languages). Additionally, when I activate the WPML plugin, it destroys the Elementor builder and styles for everything.

Symptoms:
The setup does not show the names of the languages to choose (Default language - Translation languages). When WPML is activated, it destroys the Elementor builder and styles.

Questions:

Hi,

It appears that the plugin was not fully installed, or the database is broken and unable to load the language configuration. Could you please try installing the WPML plugin files manually via FTP? This will help us rule out any issues caused by hosting upload limits that might interrupt the process before all files are loaded.

If you still can't load the language files afterward, our next step will be to check your database.

thanks for the info! I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. It would be better to a testing site where the issue is replicated.

You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Maybe I'll need to replicate your site locally. For this, I’ll need to temporarily install a plugin called “Duplicator” or "All in One WP Migration" on your site. This will allow me to create a copy of your site and your content. Once the problem is resolved I will delete the local site. Let me know if this is ok with you.

-Please make a backup of site files and database before providing us access.
-If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box. The private box looks like this:

Let's address the first issue first. Once resolved, we can then split the case to ensure all files are correctly loaded.

I've reviewed your site, and I'll need additional access to your database, preferably through a tool like phpMyAdmin. This will allow us to remove the keys and verify that all tables were created correctly.

Hi,

Using the file manager plugin is not an option for this. However, you can provide access to cPanel, or you can install a specific database plugin, such as "WP phpMyAdmin" (hidden link) Extension. There might be instances where we don't have write access with these integrations, we are more than willing to give it a try :9.

Thank you for providing access to the database. It appears that not all the necessary tables were created correctly. We are currently investigating whether this issue is related to a permissions problem on your server and will proceed with recreating the missing tables.

Can you please recheck the FTP credentials? Or activate the debugging for me as described here https://wpml.org/documentation/support/debugging-wpml/?

Do you see anything like "WordPress database error DROP command denied to user 'XXXXX'@'localhost' for table 'wp_icl_languages' for query DROP TABLE IF EXISTS wp_icl_languages"?
